Obetz sits just south of Columbus in Franklin County, within easy reach of both urban attractions and central Ohio's state park system. RV renters using Obetz as a base can reach downtown Columbus, the Columbus Zoo, and Rickenbacker International Airport in under thirty minutes, while state park campgrounds in Pickaway, Fairfield, and Delaware counties fall within a one-hour drive.
The closest options mix private RV parks with a public lakeside campground. Jackson Lake Park in Canal Winchester offers RV sites, cabins, a swimming pool, and lake access. Alton RV Park, off I-270 on the west side of the metro, offers full hookups, is big-rig friendly, and stays open year-round. A.W. Marion State Park covers 309 acres in Pickaway County and centers on 145-acre Hargus Lake.
Lancaster RV Campground sits southeast of Columbus toward the Hocking Hills region. Cross Creek Camping Resort is located just across the street from Alum Creek State Park, north of Columbus. Together, these five give renters flexibility for overnight stops, weekend family stays, or longer regional trips.
Things to do near Obetz
Central Ohio pairs city attractions with lake and trail recreation. Families staying near Obetz can spend a day at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, Zoombezi Bay, COSI science center, or Franklin Park Conservatory, then return to camp for evening downtime.
On the water, Hargus Lake at A.W. Marion State Park provides 145 acres for hand-powered vessels and boats with electric motors only, with a boat launch and seasonal rentals at the marina. Anglers there target largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie, and channel catfish. Alum Creek State Park, across from Cross Creek Camping Resort, adds a large reservoir with a swim beach, boat ramps, and mountain-bike trails.
For hiking, A.W. Marion has roughly four miles of trails around the lake, and Fairfield County's covered bridges and Hocking Hills day trips are within reach from Lancaster RV Campground.

How to book campgrounds near Obetz
Ohio State Parks use a single reservation system. Reservations can be made for today and up to six months in advance through ReserveOhio.com or by phone at (866) 644-6727. Among the campgrounds in this area, this applies to A.W. Marion State Park. Popular summer weekends often clear the six-month window on the day they open.
Private campgrounds book directly. Alton RV Park, Jackson Lake Park in Canal Winchester, Lancaster RV Campground, and Cross Creek Camping Resort each take reservations through their own websites or by phone, and Jackson Lake Park also lists availability on Campspot. Cross Creek fills quickly on themed activity weekends, so booking several weeks ahead is prudent for summer stays.
RV renters should confirm site length, hookup amperage, and pet policies at the time of booking.
What to expect on site
Expect a mix of a small state park campground and mid-size private parks. A.W. Marion State Park has 58 campsites along Hargus Lake, with 29 sites offering 50-amp electric hookups and the rest non-electric. Each site has a fire ring and picnic table, and the campground provides flush restrooms, vault latrines, and a dump station, plus a camp store, playground, ball courts, and an amphitheater.
Private parks tilt toward full hookups and tighter layouts. Alton RV Park offers 30- and 50-amp full-hookup sites with a mix of pull-throughs and back-ins, and is big-rig friendly. Jackson Lake Park offers RV sites with electric, water, and sewer hookups along with cabins and tent sites. Lancaster RV Campground offers full hook-up sites plus a dump station.
Cell coverage is generally solid near Columbus and thinner at rural state parks. Pets are welcome at most locations on leash.

On RVezy, travel trailers typically start around $90 to $150 per night, Class C motorhomes range from $175 to $275 per night, and larger Class A motorhomes generally run $250 and up. To find a cheap RV rental in Obetz, book midweek, travel in shoulder season (April or October), and filter for travel trailers if you already have a tow vehicle. Pro tip: book at least 60 days ahead of big draws like the Ohio State Fair or a Buckeyes home game, when local demand spikes quickly.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Obetz%2C%20OhioWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Obetz?
Good news for first-time renters: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Obetz, Ohio. Ohio does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or special endorsement for non-commercial motorhomes or travel trailers at typical rental weights. On RVezy, approved drivers are generally 25 or older with a valid license, and identity verification happens right in the booking platform. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home country's auto association along with your home license. With that quick step, you're ready to grab the keys and start your Ohio RV trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs insurance and roadside assistance included with my Obetz RV rental?
Yes, and this is one of the best parts of booking through RVezy. Every motorhome rental in Obetz includes a renter protection plan with 24/7 roadside assistance built in, so you're covered against most damage to the vehicle from day one. At checkout, you'll choose the protection level that fits your trip, giving you flexibility between standard and more comprehensive coverage. Should you get a flat on I-270 or need a jump at Three Creeks Metro Park, one phone call gets help dispatched. Book with confidence knowing the safety net is already in place for your Columbus-area trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Obetz RV booking?
You can book with confidence: RVezy applies a clear, traveler-friendly cancellation policy to every reservation, including a money-back grace period right after you book. Cancellation outcomes depend on how far out you cancel relative to your trip start. Hosts do not set their own cancellation rules on RVezy, which keeps things consistent and transparent for guests. If a host cancels, guests receive a refund or travel credit. If something unexpected comes up before your Columbus-area trip, log into your RVezy account or contact support and the team will walk you through your options.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on an RV rental in Obetz?
Absolutely, and Obetz is a great launchpad for a pet-friendly RV rental adventure. On RVezy, toggle the Pet-Friendly filter when you search and you'll see motorhomes and campervans whose hosts welcome four-legged guests. Once you arrive, dogs love nearby spots like Three Creeks Metro Park, with miles of leashed trails along Big Walnut Creek, and Fortress Obetz event grounds for stretching legs before hitting the road. Most Ohio State Park campgrounds, including Alum Creek and Buck Creek, allow leashed pets. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm any pet fees and ask about a tie-out spot, and you're set for tail-wagging travel.
ohiodnr.gov/go-and-do/plan-a-visit/find-a-property/petfriendlyareasCan the RV be delivered to my campground or home in Obetz?
Yes, RV delivery in Obetz is one of the easiest ways to start your trip stress-free, especially if you've never towed or driven a larger rig before. Many RVezy hosts in the Columbus metro area offer delivery and setup directly to popular spots like Alum Creek State Park and Buckeye Lake KOA, or to your own driveway in Obetz, Groveport, or Canal Winchester. Hosts can level the rig, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system before handing over the keys. Use the Delivery filter on RVezy to see hosts who offer it. It's an excellent option for first time renting an RV and turns setup day into vacation day.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Obetz%2C%20OhioHow far can I travel from Obetz on a typical RV rental?

From Obetz, Hocking Hills State Park sits about 55 miles southeast (roughly 75 minutes), Mohican State Park is around 90 miles north, and Cedar Point and the Lake Erie shoreline near Sandusky are about 130 miles away. Want to go bigger? Pittsburgh is roughly 185 miles east, and an RV road trip from Obetz to Mammoth Cave, Kentucky is about 290 miles. Each listing shows the included daily miles and per-mile overage rate, so you can plan your route with no surprises.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Obetz%2C%20OhioWhere are the best campgrounds near Obetz, OH?
You're spoiled for choice when it comes to RV camping near Obetz. Some of the best campgrounds near Obetz include Alum Creek State Park (about 25 miles north, with electric sites and a large reservoir for swimming and boating), Buckeye Lake KOA (roughly 25 miles east, family-friendly with full hookups and a pool), Cross Creek Camping Resort in Delaware (about 35 miles north, near the Columbus Zoo), and Top O' The Caves in Hocking Hills (about 55 miles southeast, in beautiful gorge country). Ohio State Parks book through reserveohio.com up to six months out, and KOAs book directly. Pro tip: snag a fall-foliage weekend in Hocking Hills early, as October sites disappear fast.
reserveohio.com/When is the best time to rent an RV in Obetz?
Late spring through early fall is the sweet spot, with the best window running from mid-May through mid-October. Obetz summers average highs in the low to mid 80s Fahrenheit in July and August with warm humid evenings, while May and September bring milder 70s, fewer bugs, and easier campground availability. Fall foliage peaks mid-to-late October across central Ohio and turns Hocking Hills into a colorful gorge landscape. Winter rentals are available for hardy travelers, but expect January highs around the mid 30s and occasional snow, so look for an RV with heated tanks. For first-timers, late May or September delivers the easiest weather and the most enjoyable Obetz RV trip overall.
weather.gov/iln/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay?
Yes, and you're in great company: many renters in Obetz are first-timers, and the experience is more approachable than it looks. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through driving tips, dumping tanks, hooking up power, and operating slide-outs and the awning. If you're nervous about driving a larger rig through Columbus traffic on I-270, ask about delivery so the RV meets you at your campsite. You can also start with a Class B campervan or small travel trailer for an easier first drive. With 24/7 RVezy support available, you're set for a confident family RV trip in Obetz.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat if something goes wrong on the road?
You're never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so a flat tire on US-23, a dead battery at Alum Creek, or a warning light on I-71 is just a phone call away from a tow or service tech. Your host is also a great first call for quirks specific to their RV, like how the generator likes to be started. RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after your trip. Pro tip: save the roadside number in your phone before you leave Obetz, and snap photos of the RV at pickup so any later conversation is quick and easy.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Obetz RV rental across state lines or to Canada?
Yes, interstate travel is welcome and one of the best perks of an RV road trip from Obetz. Ohio sits within easy reach of Kentucky, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Indiana, and Michigan, with popular routes heading south to Mammoth Cave or east into the Allegheny Mountains. Travel into Canada may be allowed with prior host approval and confirmation of insurance coverage, so message the host through the listing before booking if you're eyeing Niagara Falls or Toronto. One firm rule: travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance does not extend there. With those guidelines in mind, you can plan a multi-state adventure with confidence.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage and budget should I expect?
Plan ahead and your fuel budget won't surprise you. Class C motorhomes around Obetz average 8 to 12 miles per gallon, Class A rigs typically run 6 to 10 MPG, and a Class B campervan rental in Obetz can reach 15 to 20 MPG. Travel trailers do not burn fuel themselves but will reduce your tow vehicle's MPG by roughly 25 to 40 percent. Most local rigs take regular unleaded, though larger Class A and some Class C motorhomes use diesel. Pro tip: apps like GasBuddy work well around the I-270 outerbelt, and filling up in Obetz or Groveport is usually cheaper than at I-71 highway exits.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Obetz?
Earlier is better, and Ohio makes it easy. Ohio State Park campgrounds, including Alum Creek, Deer Creek, and Hocking Hills, open reservations up to six months in advance through reserveohio.com, and the most popular weekends (Memorial Day, July 4th, and peak fall foliage in mid-October) often sell out the moment the booking window opens. Private parks like Buckeye Lake KOA and Cross Creek Camping Resort book directly through their own sites and usually have more flexibility. For a spontaneous summer weekend, target Sunday-through-Thursday stays where availability stays more open. Pro tip: set a calendar reminder six months before your target date and log in early to grab that lakefront site.
reserveohio.com/What are local driving conditions like around Obetz?
Driving an RV around Obetz is refreshingly manageable. Obetz sits just south of Columbus near the I-270 outerbelt and US-23, with flat-to-rolling terrain, well-maintained roads, and no mountain passes. Rush hour on I-270 and I-71 (roughly 7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 6:30 p.m.) is the main headache, so plan departures mid-morning. Watch for low clearances on a few older bridges in downtown Columbus, and stick to truck-friendly routes when heading toward Hocking Hills. Winter brings occasional snow and ice, so check ODOT's OHGO app for live conditions before hitting the road.
ohgo.com/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Obetz?
Central Ohio campgrounds are well-equipped and easy to enjoy. Most state parks near Obetz, like Alum Creek and Deer Creek, offer 30/50-amp electric hookups, drinking water spigots, dump stations, hot showers, flush toilets, and many sites with fire rings and picnic tables. Private parks such as Buckeye Lake KOA and Cross Creek Camping Resort add full hookups (water, sewer, electric), WiFi, pools, laundry, and camp stores. Need to dump tanks on the road? Most Ohio State Park campgrounds have dump stations, and several Pilot and Flying J truck stops along I-70 and I-71 offer paid dumping. Pro tip: top off fresh water before leaving the campground because trailhead spigots are seasonal.
ohiodnr.gov/go-and-do/plan-a-visit/campgroundsWhat's included inside an Obetz RV rental?
Modern comfort is the standard. Most RVs you'll find on RVezy in Obetz come with real beds (queens and bunks), a full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, sink, and cookware, a bathroom with toilet and shower, climate control with air conditioning and furnace, and seatbelted seating for travel. Many also include TVs, Bluetooth stereos, outdoor awnings with lights, propane grills, and a generator or solar for off-grid power. WiFi varies; some hosts include a mobile hotspot, others recommend tethering to your phone. Each listing has a full amenities list, so you can filter or message the host to confirm specifics like a king bed or pack-n-play.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Obetz%2C%20OhioWhat add-ons and pickup options are available?
Hosts make it easy to customize your trip. Popular add-ons for an Obetz RV rental include bedding and linen packages, kitchen kits, camp chairs, outdoor grills, bike racks, generators, and even kayaks or e-bikes. Some hosts charge a pet cleaning fee if you bring your dog. Pickup is usually at the host's home in the Greater Columbus area, with delivery available to nearby campgrounds, Rickenbacker International Airport, or John Glenn Columbus International Airport for a fee based on distance. Mileage policies vary by listing, with daily allotments typically between 100 and 200 miles. Check the listing details and message the host with any specific requests before booking.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Obetz%2C%20OhioHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and secure through RVezy. You'll pay the rental total plus taxes, the protection plan fee, and any add-ons when you book using a major credit card, all processed safely on the platform (never directly to the host). A refundable security deposit, separate from your booking payment, is pre-authorized on your card before pickup and released after the trip if the RV is returned in good condition with no policy violations. To avoid holds, do a thorough walkaround at pickup with the host (photos and video help), follow the mileage and generator rules in the listing, and dump tanks if required. Easy, transparent, and stress-free.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksAre there any local insider tips for an Obetz RV trip?
Here's the local secret: Obetz punches above its weight as an RV launchpad. The town hosts the popular Zucchinifest each Labor Day weekend at Fortress Obetz, drawing huge crowds, so book your RV rental in Obetz early if you're targeting that weekend. Pickerington Ponds Metro Park, just minutes east, is a hidden birding gem perfect for a quiet sunrise. For provisioning, the Meijer at Groveport Road and the Kroger on Parsons Avenue have big parking lots that work well for RVs. And if you're heading to Hocking Hills, take US-33 southeast rather than backtracking through downtown Columbus: it's faster, prettier, and easier in a big rig.
