Campgrounds and RV parks near Pleasantville, OH

The Hocking Hills trail system anchors most itineraries. There are seven major hiking areas in Hocking Hills State Park, all one-way trail systems: Ash Cave, Old Man's Cave, Rock House, Conkle's Hollow, Cedar Falls, Cantwell Cliffs, and Whispering Cave Trail. Guided outfitters in the region offer horseback riding, kayaking, and canopy tours. At Buckeye Lake, boating and fishing dominate. The 3,100-acre Buckeye Lake is designated as an unlimited horsepower lake, but pontoons, sailboats, canoes, and rowboats are also common. A 4-mile shoreline path connects the North Shore to Lieb's Island and offers a variety of areas for fishing and relaxation. Off the water, the Hocking Hills region offers some of the darkest night skies in Ohio, and the John Glenn Astronomy Park near Old Man's Cave hosts public telescope programs.

Central Ohio has four distinct camping seasons. Summer is the peak window, with warm days, full campground programming, and heavy weekend demand at Hocking Hills and Buckeye Lake. Public beaches at Buckeye Lake typically operate from Memorial Day through Labor Day, which frames the main swim season. Private parks in the region generally run their fullest activity schedules from late spring through mid-October. Fall brings cooler nights, lower crowds midweek, and heavier weekend traffic once foliage peaks in the Hocking Hills gorges. Reservations for popular fall Saturdays fill early. Astronomy programs at John Glenn Astronomy Park run on clear evenings across the warmer months, and visitors should check the schedule and parking rules in advance. Winter access is limited but not closed. Some private campgrounds shut down or reduce amenities between November and April, while the Hocking Hills trails remain open year-round for day use. At the Hocking Hills State Park Campground, off-peak season runs November 1 through April 1, when Shower House 1, the dump station, and the campground store remain open, with water available only at Shower House 1. Spring is wet, with muddy trails and higher water in the falls.

Expect a mix of paved and gravel pads across the region. The Hocking Hills State Park Campground has 156 electric sites with 20, 30 or 50 amp service and 13 non-electric sites, and each site has a paved pad that can accommodate up to a 50-foot unit. Amenities include heated showers, flush toilets, a laundry facility, dump station, camp store, swimming pool for registered campers, playgrounds, and a volleyball court and horseshoe pit. Cell coverage is uneven in the hills, and signal is patchy across much of the Hocking Hills gorges. Private campgrounds nearer Pleasantville and Lancaster generally have stronger reception. Site capacity rules are strict. The campground enforces a maximum of six people per site. Fires are allowed in provided rings, and quiet hours run from 10:00 PM to 7:00 AM at the state park, with similar rules at most private parks.
