Campgrounds and RV parks near Proctorville, OH

The 720-acre Beech Fork Lake is the region's main outdoor draw, with 31 miles of shoreline for bass and bluegill fishing, a marina renting canoes, pontoons, and paddle boats, a swimming pool complex, and a paved fitness trail. The state park also has more than 50 miles of hiking and biking trails, athletic fields, and a wildlife management area for birding and wildlife viewing. Across the river in Huntington, families can visit Camden Park, a small traditional amusement park, and the Huntington Museum of Art. Milton is home to Blenko Glass, one of the few remaining handmade-glass companies in the country, with a self-guided factory tour. At The Falls Campground in Fallsburg, Kentucky, a low waterfall on Blaine Creek forms a sandy swimming beach that anchors the property.

The Proctorville area has a humid subtropical climate with four distinct seasons. Summer is warm and humid with average July highs near the upper 80s Fahrenheit and frequent afternoon thunderstorms. May is typically the wettest month of the year, with roughly 4.8 inches of rain, while October is usually among the driest. Camping season effectively runs from mid-April through mid-October at the seasonal loops. At Beech Fork State Park, Four Coves Campground is open mid-April through mid-October and Lakeview is open April through mid-November, while Old Orchard Campground and Moxley Branch stay open year-round. Huntington / Fox Fire KOA Holiday is also open all year. Winters are short but cold, with January averaging highs around 39 and lows in the mid 20s. Snowfall is modest, averaging about 13 inches per year, but freezing rain and river-valley fog are more common concerns for RV travelers. Spring and early fall offer the most comfortable weather and the best availability at the state park's electric loops.

Site setups vary widely by campground. Beech Fork's Four Coves and Lakeview loops are 30-amp electric only with no water or sewer at the site, and lakefront sites often lack mature shade. Old Orchard has full hookups on all sites, and portions of Moxley Branch also offer full-hookup sites. The Huntington / Fox Fire KOA Holiday has full hookups and gravel pads and can accommodate large rigs, though the entrance from Route 60 in Milton is a sharp turn that requires care with a long trailer. Cell service and Wi-Fi are limited inside Beech Fork State Park, with Wi-Fi available only at the park headquarters and Old Orchard Campground. Access roads within the state park can be narrow and winding in spots. Expect terrain that is hilly and wooded, with paved parking pads, picnic tables, grills, and bathhouses standard at the state park sites.
