Campgrounds and RV parks near Racine, OH

Forked Run State Park anchors outdoor recreation in the area. The park has a 102-acre lake with two boat launch ramps, a small sand swimming beach, hiking trails through wooded ridges, and a 24-hole disc golf course. A wildlife launch ramp on the park property provides direct access to the Ohio River for anglers and boaters. In Racine, Star Mill Park offers a splash pad, skate and BMX park, basketball courts, and a riverfront walk suited to families traveling with kids. Across the river in Point Pleasant, West Virginia, the Mothman Museum, the Mothman statue, and Tu-Endie-Wei State Park at the confluence of the Ohio and Kanawha Rivers are all within a short drive. Summer festivals along the Meigs County riverfront include the Sternwheel Regatta and community park events in Pomeroy and Middleport.

The main camping season along this stretch of the Ohio River runs from spring through mid-fall. At Forked Run State Park, all five camping areas are open during the warm months, but from November 1 through April 1, Area 1 is the only camping area that remains open. The Area 1 showerhouse closes from early December through the end of April, while the dump station and water remain available. RV travelers planning off-season stays should confirm which utilities are active before arrival. Summer weekends are the busiest period at both public and private parks, and demand spikes sharply around the Mothman Festival, held the third weekend of September in Point Pleasant. Riverfront sites within a 30-mile radius routinely sell out four to six weeks ahead in peak summer, and festival weekend fills many months out. Fall brings cooler nights, lower humidity, and strong color on the surrounding hardwood ridges. Spring can be wet, with May the wettest month locally, so low-lying sites near the river are worth avoiding after heavy rain.

The landscape around Racine is rolling Appalachian foothill country that was never covered by glacial ice, so expect narrow ridge roads, tight curves on state routes, and steep entrances at some rural campgrounds. RV drivers new to the area should plan daylight arrivals. Forked Run State Park has 143 sites split between 79 electric and 64 non-electric, with paved pads, picnic tables, fire rings, showerhouses, vault latrines, a dump station, and coin-operated laundry. Cell reception inside the park can be spotty in low areas near the lake, and Wi-Fi is limited to the camp office. Private parks in the corridor generally offer full hookups and more consistent connectivity. Grocery and fuel stops are easiest in Pomeroy, Middleport, or Point Pleasant. Bring cash or a card for smaller riverfront vendors.
