Campgrounds and RV parks near South Bloomfield, OH

South Bloomfield sits in Pickaway County along U.S. Route 23, roughly 20 miles south of downtown Columbus and a short drive north of Circleville. The village serves as a practical staging point for RV travelers heading into the Scioto River valley, the till plains of central Ohio, and the wooded ridges that begin south of Chillicothe. The closest developed campground is AW Marion State Park, a compact Ohio Department of Natural Resources property that wraps around 145-acre Hargus Lake northeast of Circleville. Great Seal State Park, north of Chillicothe, adds a more rustic, hill-country option. Alton RV Park sits closer to the Columbus metro for travelers who want easier access to the city, while Lancaster RV Campground covers the Hocking Hills approach to the east. Jackson Lake Park, farther south in Jackson County, is an option for travelers continuing toward southern Ohio. Most trips from South Bloomfield combine one state-park stay with day drives to Columbus attractions, the Hocking Hills region, or Chillicothe historic sites.

Ohio state-park campgrounds, including AW Marion, Great Seal, and Jackson Lake Park, use the state's central reservation system at ReserveOhio.com or by phone at (866) 644-6727. Sites can typically be reserved up to six months in advance, and Ohio State Parks no longer accept walk-on or self-registration, so a reservation should be secured online or by phone before arrival. At Great Seal State Park, the 15 primitive sites include equestrian tie lines behind sites 1 through 10, so equestrian campers should book those specific sites. Private campgrounds such as Alton RV Park and Lancaster RV Campground handle bookings directly through their own websites or by phone. Summer weekends and fall color weekends fill earliest, so booking several weeks ahead is recommended.
