Campgrounds and RV parks near Williamsport, OH

Water and trails drive most trips. Hargus Lake at A.W. Marion State Park provides 145 acres of water with a boat launch, public docks, and seasonal boat rentals at the marina. Electric motors and hand-powered vessels only are permitted. Anglers target largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie, and channel catfish. The Hargus Lake Trail loops the shoreline, and the shorter Squawroot Nature Trail begins at the campground. At Great Seal State Park, visitors find roughly 23 miles of hiking and multi-use trails crossing wooded, hilly terrain, including a steep climb up Sugarloaf Mountain. Two trails are reserved for hiking only; mountain bikes and horses share the remaining routes. The park also has an 18-hole disc golf course. Off the trails, families visit Hopewell Culture National Historical Park in Chillicothe, tour historic Circleville, and take day trips north to Columbus museums and the zoo.

The main state park camping season runs late spring through fall. A.W. Marion State Park Campground operates seasonally from late March through early November, and Great Seal State Park Campground typically closes for the winter from early December through the first week of March. Reservations are handled through ReserveOhio. Peak demand runs from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, with holiday weekends and October color weekends filling first. Spring brings green ridges and wildflowers, along with the wettest weather of the year and occasional severe storms. Central Ohio sits in a region where tornadoes can form, most often in spring but occasionally in autumn. Summer is warm and humid, with afternoon thunderstorms common. Fall is often the best window for RV travel: cooler nights, drier air, and hardwood color across the hills of Great Seal and A.W. Marion. Winter camping in central Ohio is limited; most state park loops close, though private parks in the area such as Walnut Creek Campground and Resort operate for travelers passing through.

State park loops in this part of Ohio are compact and wooded. A.W. Marion is small and quiet, with 58 campsites along the shores of Hargus Lake. Twenty-nine sites offer electric hookups, while the remaining sites are non-electric. Each site has a fire ring and picnic table. The campground provides flush restrooms, vault latrines, a dump station, a camp store, and a playground. Great Seal is more rustic. The campground has 15 primitive sites arranged around a grass hill adjacent to Sugarloaf Mountain, with horse picket lines behind sites 1 through 10 for equestrian campers. Facilities are simple, with vault toilets, drinking water, a shelter, and a playground, but no hookups or showers. Campfires are permitted at designated sites. Cell service can be spotty in the hills, so download maps before arrival. Roads into the parks are paved but narrow in places; drive slowly with a larger rig.
