Campgrounds and RV parks near Wolfhurst, OH

Barkcamp State Park anchors most day plans. Belmont Lake is limited to electric motors, and anglers fish from the shoreline and a small beach. The park also runs a walk-through archery range, an 18-hole miniature golf course, hiking trails, and bridle trails shared with the equestrian loop. Grand Vue Park adds ziplines and an aerial adventure course, a pool, disc golf, mini-golf, and the on-site Vue Bar and Grill. The park sits above Moundsville, close to the Grave Creek Mound Archaeological Complex and the former West Virginia Penitentiary. Beyond the parks, families use Wheeling for restaurants, Wheeling Island, and the Ohio River waterfront. Egypt Valley and Jockey Hollow Wilderness Areas offer quieter hiking in the second-growth Appalachian forest of eastern Ohio.

The main camping season in this part of the Ohio Valley runs roughly April through October. Spring brings warming days, blooming hardwoods, and steady rainfall, with May and June typically the wettest months. Summer is the peak booking window: weekends at Barkcamp and Grand Vue fill well in advance, particularly around the July 4 holiday and other summer holidays. Fall is the most comfortable stretch for RV travel. September and October bring cooler nights, lower humidity, and hardwood color across Belmont County. Barkcamp typically hosts a Cast-iron Cooking Festival in September and a Fall Festival in October with hay wagon rides, pumpkin carving, and vendors. Winter operations are reduced but not fully closed. At Barkcamp, the B Loop closes and the shower house and dump station are shut off from about November 1 to April 1, though electric service remains available and water can be found at the office and shower house. Grand Vue drops to a single bathhouse and a limited number of sites from December 1 to April 1.

Barkcamp sites are back-in only, on 10-foot-wide cement pads, with fire rings and picnic tables at each site. Pets are limited to designated loops, including Loop A, Loop B, and the equestrian loop, and this should be noted at booking. The campground has hot showers, ADA-accessible sites, and a centrally located dump station; equestrian campers also get a wash station and an accessible mounting ramp. Grand Vue is gated with code access. Sites are gravel pads with both 30 and 50 amp service, full hookups, fire pits, and picnic areas, and firewood can be purchased and delivered to the site. Two brand-new bathhouses serve the campground. Cell service is generally reliable on the Wheeling side of the valley and adequate but variable at Barkcamp. The terrain is Appalachian foothills, so expect grades on approach roads and cooler overnight temperatures than daytime highs suggest.
