Camping near Worthington, Ohio
Worthington sits just north of Columbus in central Ohio, putting RV renters within a short drive of several campgrounds clustered around the Alum Creek Reservoir corridor. The largest public option is Alum Creek State Park, which offers 286 electric campsites plus full-hookup sites, camper cabins, an equestrian camp, and a group camp along the 3,387-acre reservoir. It is roughly a 30-minute drive north of downtown Columbus and is one of the busiest state park campgrounds in the region.
Private options fill in around the state park. Cross Creek Camping Resort sits near Alum Creek State Park in Delaware, while Berkshire Lake Campground and Berkshire Campgrounds are clustered near Galena on the east side of the reservoir. Alton RV Park serves travelers on the west side of the metro.
Together these properties give RV renters a mix of full-hookup private resorts and a large public campground with lake access, all within a short drive of Worthington.
Things to do around Worthington
The main draw is Alum Creek Reservoir itself. The lake has unlimited-horsepower boating on the southern portion, a designated swimming beach that stretches roughly 3,000 feet along the west shore (the largest inland beach in Ohio's state park system), and shore or boat fishing for bass, bluegill, crappie, muskie, and saugeye. A four-acre lakeside dog park includes a fenced water-access area for dogs.
On land, the park has more than 20 miles of mountain-bike trails plus designated hiking and bridle trails winding through second-growth hardwood forest. A disc golf course sits at the New Galena Launch Ramp area.
Off-park attractions are close. The Columbus Zoo, Zoombezi Bay, Polaris Fashion Place, and Tanger Outlets are all within a short drive, and historic downtown Delaware sits a few miles north on US 23.

The prime RV season in central Ohio runs from mid-April through mid-October. Alum Creek State Park's main campground operates year-round, but from November 1 to April 15 only Area 2 and rows A, B, and G are available, restrooms are closed, and full-hookup sites have sewer but no water. The group camp is open only mid-April through mid-October, and camper cabins are available April through December.
Summer is the peak. Weekends, holidays, and the swimming-beach season fill Alum Creek and the surrounding private resorts quickly, and sites can book out months in advance. Late spring and early fall are the sweet spot for cooler weather, fewer bugs, and easier availability, with May and September often cited as the most pleasant months.
Winter camping is possible for self-contained rigs but is limited. The area typically sees around 28 days a year when temperatures never rise above freezing, so plan for cold-weather tank management.

How to book near Worthington
Alum Creek State Park is reserved through the ReserveOhio system at reserveohio.com or by phone at 1-866-644-6727. Reservations open six months in advance at 7 a.m. and no walk-ins are accepted, so booking early is essential for summer weekends. Check-in for campsites is 3 p.m. with check-out at 1 p.m.; cabin check-in is 4 p.m. with check-out at 11 a.m.
Cross Creek Camping Resort, Berkshire Lake Campground, Berkshire Campgrounds, and Alton RV Park each take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Private resorts commonly require full or partial payment at booking and set their own cancellation windows.
Because popular state-park sites cancel daily, cancellation-alert tools can help fill last-minute gaps at Alum Creek.
What to expect at Worthington campgrounds
At Alum Creek State Park, expect a large, family-oriented public campground with 20-, 30-, and 50-amp electric sites, flush toilets and heated showers, a dump station, and a camper-only beach and boat ramp. Sites are a mix of shaded and open, with dense vegetation between many sites providing privacy; some overlook the lake. Two pets maximum per site are allowed on all sites but not on the beach or in cabins.
Private parks in the area lean toward full-hookup RV sites with pools, playgrounds, camp stores, laundry, and weekend activities. Sites at some private resorts are close together, which is worth noting for larger rigs.
Cell coverage is generally strong across the Columbus metro. Groceries, propane, and RV service are easy to find in Delaware, Sunbury, and Worthington.

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Worthington, OH?
RV rental in Worthington is affordable for most budgets. Travel trailers typically start around $90 to $150 per night, Class C motorhomes generally run $175 to $275 per night, and campervans or smaller Class B options often land in the $125 to $200 range. That makes a quick getaway to Hocking Hills or Lake Erie genuinely budget friendly. To find a cheap RV rental in Worthington, look at weekday pickups, shoulder season dates in April or late September, and listings with generous included mileage. Pro tip: sort by price and message hosts directly about multi-night or weekly discounts, since many local owners offer 10 to 15 percent off longer stays.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Worthington%2C%20OhioWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Worthington, Ohio?
Your regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Worthington. The Ohio BMV does not require a Commercial Driver's License or special endorsement for personal RVs, travel trailers, or motorhomes used recreationally. To book on RVezy, approved drivers are generally 25 or older, and your ID is verified through the platform during checkout. Visiting from outside the United States? Bring an International Driving Permit along with your home country license. Most first time renters are surprised how simple the paperwork is, so you can spend less time on logistics and more time planning your Ohio RV trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat protection is included when I rent an RV in Worthington?
Every RVezy booking in Worthington includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit I-270 with real peace of mind. You choose your coverage level at checkout, not the host, so you decide how much protection feels right for your family. Protection plans help cover eligible damage to the RV during your trip, and roadside assistance is built in for things like tire changes, jump starts, and towing. Pro tip: review the coverage options carefully at booking, since a small upgrade is often worth it for a longer Ohio RV trip with kids, pets, or first time drivers behind the wheel.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Worthington RV rental?
Booking is low risk because RVezy, not the individual host, sets the cancellation policy for every reservation. That means a consistent process whether you're renting a campervan in Worthington for a weekend or a Class C for a two week trip. There is a grace period window shortly after booking for a full refund, with additional refund tiers depending on how far out from your trip you cancel. If a host needs to cancel, RVezy helps with a refund or credit. Pro tip: book early to lock in the best Worthington RV inventory for summer weekends, and reach out to RVezy support if your plans shift.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Worthington RV rental?
Yes, pet friendly RV rental in Worthington is easy to find. Toggle the Pet Friendly filter on RVezy and you'll see local owners who welcome dogs along for the adventure. Many hosts charge a small pet fee, typically $25 to $75, to cover extra cleaning. Worthington is a great launchpad for pet travel: the Olentangy Trail runs right through town with shaded paths along the river, and Highbanks Metro Park just north on US-23 has leashed dog trails and picnic spots. Alum Creek State Park, about 20 minutes away, even has a dedicated dog park and dog swim beach. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm your dog's size and breed, and ask for their favorite local dog friendly stops.
metroparks.net/parks-and-trails/highbanks-metro-park/Can the RV be delivered to me in Worthington?
Yes, RV delivery in Worthington is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first time renters who'd rather skip towing or driving a big rig through Columbus traffic. Many local hosts deliver directly to your driveway, a campground like Alum Creek State Park, or a family member's home in nearby Dublin, Westerville, or Powell. They'll level the RV, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before handing over the keys. Delivery fees commonly range from $2 to $4 per mile round trip, with some hosts offering free local delivery within a short radius. Pro tip: filter by Delivery on RVezy and message hosts with your destination address for an exact quote.

Heading farther, the Great Smoky Mountains are around 400 miles south, and Mammoth Cave in Kentucky is roughly 360 miles. Hosts set their own mileage policies, so look for listings with generous daily allowances or RV rental with unlimited mileage if you're planning a big loop. For a more developed resort feel, Cross Creek Camping Resort in Delaware County has pools, mini golf, and full hookups. Pro tip: Ohio State Parks reservations open six months in advance through the ODNR reservation system, so set a calendar reminder for popular summer weekends, especially around Memorial Day and July 4th.

Winter RVing is possible from November through March if you choose a four season rig with heated tanks, but expect overnight lows in the 20s°F and possible snow. Pro tip: book a fall foliage week in early to mid October for unbeatable scenery on the Hocking Hills loop, and reserve campgrounds at least 8 weeks ahead during peak leaf peeping season.
weather.gov/iln/I've never driven an RV before. Is renting in Worthington beginner friendly?
First time renting an RV? Worthington is one of the easier places to start. Suburban streets are wide, I-270 and I-71 have generous shoulders, and you can be on rural backroads heading to Hocking Hills in under 30 minutes. Every RVezy host provides a hands on walkthrough at pickup covering driving, leveling, slide outs, water systems, and dumping, and they stay reachable by phone throughout your trip. Nervous about Columbus traffic? Choose a smaller Class C or campervan rental in Worthington, or pick the Delivery option so the host brings the RV directly to your campground. Pro tip: spend your first night close to home at Alum Creek State Park, about 20 minutes away, so you can practice setup before heading farther afield.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/categories/360002270533-RentersWhat if I have a breakdown or issue on the road?
You're covered. Every motorhome rental in Worthington booked through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance with the renter protection plan, so a flat tire on US-33 or a battery hiccup at a Hocking Hills trailhead is just a phone call away. Help can be dispatched for tire changes, jump starts, fuel delivery, lockouts, and towing. Your host is also a direct resource for quirks specific to their RV, and most respond within minutes. RVezy support is available before, during, and after your trip if you need a hand. Pro tip: save the roadside assistance number in your phone before you leave Worthington, and snap a photo of the RV's VIN and license plate at pickup so you have details ready if you ever need them.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Worthington RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, interstate travel is welcome on RV rental Ohio bookings, so loop trips to Michigan, Kentucky, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Indiana are all on the table. Popular runs from Worthington include the Smoky Mountains (about 400 miles south), Mackinaw City (about 375 miles north), and Niagara Falls (about 380 miles northeast). Cross border travel into Canada may be allowed depending on the individual host's preferences and insurance setup, so message them directly with your itinerary before booking. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend there. Pro tip: if you're crossing into Ontario, bring your passport, proof of the rental agreement, and confirm in writing with your host that cross border travel is approved for your trip dates.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage should I budget for from Worthington?
Budgeting fuel is easier than you'd think. Class C motorhomes around Worthington average 8 to 12 MPG, Class A rigs run 6 to 9 MPG, campervans typically get 15 to 20 MPG, and a truck pulling a travel trailer lands around 10 to 13 MPG. Regular gas in the Columbus metro area generally tracks close to the Ohio state average, with stations clustered along I-270 and US-23. For a round trip from Worthington to Hocking Hills (about 120 miles), expect roughly $30 to $55 in fuel for a Class C. Pro tip: fill up in Worthington or Westerville before heading into rural southeast Ohio, where stations are sparser and prices can be a bit higher.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book a campground near Worthington?
For the best sites, book Ohio State Parks campgrounds as soon as the six month reservation window opens through the ODNR online reservation system. Alum Creek, Delaware, and Hocking Hills fill up fast for summer weekends, holidays, and peak fall color in October. Private parks like Cross Creek Camping Resort often have more last minute flexibility, but still aim for 4 to 8 weeks ahead in summer. Weekday stays are much easier to snag on short notice. Pro tip: if your dates are locked but a campground is full, watch for cancellations 1 to 2 weeks before your trip, especially for Sunday and Monday nights, when sites frequently open up.
ohiodnr.gov/go-and-do/plan-a-visit/reserve-a-place-to-stayWhat are driving conditions like around Worthington and central Ohio?
Driving an RV around Worthington is refreshingly straightforward. The terrain is gently rolling, roads are wide and well maintained, and I-270, the outerbelt, lets you skirt downtown Columbus entirely. Avoid the High Street corridor in downtown Worthington during weekday rush hour (7 to 9 am and 4 to 6 pm) and skip low clearance parking garages around OSU and the Short North. Summer brings occasional severe thunderstorms, while winter can deliver snow and ice from December through February. Pro tip: heading to Hocking Hills, take US-33 southeast rather than smaller county roads, since the four lane highway is much easier for an RV and there are pull offs in Lancaster and Logan for breaks.
ohgo.com/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Worthington?
Central Ohio campgrounds are well equipped for a comfortable RV camping Worthington experience. Alum Creek and Delaware State Parks offer 50 and 30 amp electric hookups, potable water fill stations, hot showers, flush toilets, and on site dump stations. Full hookup sites with water, electric, and sewer are available at Cross Creek Camping Resort and many private parks within an hour. Most state parks have a camp store, firewood for sale, and laundry. Pro tip: bring a 25 foot drinking water hose, a sewer hose kit, and a 30 to 50 amp adapter so you can connect at any site your host's RV is rated for, and confirm with your host which adapters are already included.
ohiodnr.gov/go-and-do/plan-a-visit/find-a-property/alum-creek-state-parkWhat's inside a typical Worthington RV rental?
Most RVs available for rent in Worthington come fully equipped for a comfortable trip. Expect a queen or king bed, convertible dinette and sofa sleepers, a full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and sink, plus a wet or dry bath with hot water. Air conditioning, a furnace, and a propane water heater are standard, and many listings include a generator for off grid use, an outdoor awning, leveling jacks, and a flat screen TV. Wifi is hit or miss in rural Ohio, but most hosts share details about cell boosters or hotspots in the listing. Seatbelt counts vary by RV, so confirm the seated capacity matches your group. Pro tip: if you're traveling with kids, filter by seatbelts and sleeping capacity on RVezy to narrow your search quickly.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Worthington%2C%20OhioWhat add-ons and pickup options are common for Worthington RV rentals?
Worthington hosts offer plenty of helpful add ons to customize your trip. Popular extras include camping kits with chairs, table, and outdoor rug for $25 to $50, kitchen and linen packages for $50 to $100, bike racks, generators, propane refills, and pet packages. Pickup is usually from the host's driveway in Worthington, Westerville, Dublin, or Powell, with most pickups scheduled between 12 and 4 pm and drop off in the morning. Mileage policies typically include 100 to 150 free miles per night, with $0.30 to $0.45 per extra mile. RV rental with unlimited mileage is available on select listings if you're planning a long loop. Pro tip: bundle delivery, a generator, and a camping kit at booking to save versus adding them later, and confirm dump and refill expectations with your host before pickup.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Worthington%2C%20OhioHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment for your RV rental in Worthington is handled securely through the RVezy platform, so you never hand cash or a check to the host. You'll pay the trip total at booking with a credit or debit card. A refundable security deposit is held, not charged, a few days before pickup, typically in the range of several hundred to a couple thousand dollars depending on the RV's value. If the rig comes back in the same condition it left in, the hold is released after your trip. To avoid any deposit issues, do a quick walkaround video at pickup and drop off, return the RV with the fuel and propane levels noted in your agreement, and follow any dump station instructions. Pro tip: message your host the day before pickup to confirm fuel and cleanliness expectations.
