Camping near Bray, Oklahoma
Bray is a small community in Stephens County in south-central Oklahoma, positioned between Duncan and Pauls Valley off US-81. The town itself has no developed campground, but several private RV parks sit within a short drive along the US-81 corridor and toward Marlow, giving renters full-hookup options within roughly 15 to 25 miles.
Town and Country RV Park of Marlow and Duncan Mobile Village are the closest full-service stops, both convenient for travelers using US-81 as a north-south route. Chisolm Trail RV Park and Washita Valley RV Park extend the options northward, and Pecan Grove RV Resort rounds out the nearby list for renters seeking a quieter setting.
For state and federal camping, the region draws on Lake Murray State Park to the southeast and Chickasaw National Recreation Area near Sulphur. Chickasaw preserves partially forested hills and Lake of the Arbuckles, and it remains the primary public-land camping draw for anyone basing a trip out of the Bray area.
Things to do around Bray
Most trip itineraries from Bray combine local Chisholm Trail history with lake and spring recreation an hour away. Chickasaw National Recreation Area offers the Platt Historic District and Lake of the Arbuckles, with swimming, paddling, fishing, and easy hiking through CCC-era stonework.
Turner Falls Park near Davis, roughly an hour east, gives families a swimmable waterfall and short trails. Lake Murray State Park to the southeast adds boating, fishing, and mountain-bike trails on a large reservoir.
Closer to camp, Duncan hosts the Chisholm Trail Heritage Center, and the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge west of Lawton is a common day trip for bison viewing and granite-peak hikes.

Spring and fall are the strongest windows for RV travel in this part of Oklahoma. April and May bring warm days and green pastures, but they also mark the state's peak severe-weather season, so renters should track forecasts for thunderstorms, hail, and tornadoes and know each campground's shelter policy.
Summer is hot and humid. Daytime highs commonly push into the low to mid 90s Fahrenheit, and lake-based campgrounds fill fastest on weekends and around Independence Day. Shaded, full-hookup sites are worth booking well ahead so air conditioning can run through the afternoon.
Fall cools quickly through October and November and is often the most comfortable stretch for touring, with lower humidity and steady weather. Winters are mild but changeable, with occasional ice storms and cold snaps. Many private parks stay open year-round for snowbirds, while some seasonal amenities at state and national park campgrounds are reduced between late fall and early spring.
How to book near Bray
Private RV parks near Bray, including Town and Country RV Park of Marlow, Duncan Mobile Village, Chisolm Trail RV Park, Washita Valley RV Park, and Pecan Grove RV Resort, typically take reservations directly by phone or through their own websites. For weekend arrivals in spring and fall, call at least a week ahead; monthly stays should be arranged further out.
Oklahoma State Parks, including Lake Murray, use the state's central reservation system online. At Chickasaw National Recreation Area, group sites at Rock Creek, Central, and Cold Springs, all other sites at Cold Springs, Buckhorn Loop C, and The Point Upper Loop are on Recreation.gov and can be booked up to 360 days in advance, with a two-day minimum on weekends and a three-day minimum on holidays. Remaining sites at Chickasaw are first come, first served.
What to expect
The landscape around Bray is rolling prairie and mixed oak, with working ranches, oil and gas infrastructure, and small farm towns. Roads are generally flat and easy to tow on, with US-81 as the main artery. Expect open skies, distant thunderstorm views in warm months, and cell coverage that is reliable in town but patchy on backroads.
Private parks in the area lean utilitarian: gravel or grass pads, 30 and 50 amp service, water and sewer at most sites, and laundry on-site at the larger properties. Shade varies, and some parks host long-term residents alongside overnighters.
Groceries, fuel, propane, and RV supplies are easiest to source in Duncan or Marlow. Wildlife is limited to deer, armadillos, and birds; ticks and chiggers are common in tall grass from spring through early fall.
