Campgrounds near Colbert, Oklahoma
Colbert sits in Bryan County in southern Oklahoma, minutes from the Red River and the northeast arm of Lake Texoma, one of the premier striped bass fisheries in the southwest. The town works as a practical RV base: it is close to Durant, straddles US-75 for easy Dallas-area access, and puts campers within a short drive of both Oklahoma and Texas shorelines.
The closest RV options include Riverview RV and Recreational Park and Sticklers RV Park in Colbert itself, Do Drop Inn RV Resort a few miles south, and Durant / Choctaw Casino KOA just up the highway. For state-park camping across the border, the Overflow - Eisenhower State Park area in Denison, Texas is roughly a fifteen-minute drive.
The surrounding recreation area is significant. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers manages Lake Texoma, the largest lake in capacity in the Tulsa District and the twelfth largest in the United States, and one of the most popular Federal recreation facilities in the country, with almost 6 million visitors annually.
Things to do near Colbert
Lake Texoma drives most trip planning. Fishing is the headline draw, with striped bass that reproduce naturally along with largemouth and smallmouth bass, white bass, hybrid striped bass, white crappie, black crappie, channel catfish and blue catfish. Boat ramps, marinas, and swim beaches ring the shoreline on both the Oklahoma and Texas sides.
On land, the Cross Timbers hiking trail winds for 14 miles above the lake on rocky ledges and through blackjack woodland, and additional equestrian trails loop through the recreation area. Bird watchers head to the Hagerman and Tishomingo national wildlife refuges for waterfowl and wintering bald eagles.
For a break from the outdoors, Choctaw Casino and Resort in nearby Durant offers dining, entertainment, and shopping.

December - February
54° / 37°F 55 mmMild but variable; many Corps sites limited or closed.
The Colbert area has a humid subtropical climate with a long, warm recreation season. Spring brings the greenest landscape and heaviest rain, along with occasional severe thunderstorms and tornado watches, and it is also a busy striper spawning window on Lake Texoma. Summer is hot and often humid, with lake temperatures ideal for swimming and water sports, and holiday weekends filling reservations well in advance.
Fall is arguably the best RV window. Daytime highs ease into the seventies, insects thin out, and the crowds drop after Labor Day. Migrating waterfowl begin arriving at the refuges through October and November.
Winter is mild by national standards but variable, with cold snaps and occasional freezing rain. Many Corps of Engineers sites reduce services in the off-season: many of the Corps of Engineers managed campgrounds close from October 1st through March 31st, with some closing December 1st through March 31st, and campgrounds that remain open are first come, first served with limited or no access to amenities.
How to book campgrounds near Colbert
Reservation systems vary by land manager. Corps of Engineers sites around Lake Texoma book through Recreation.gov, and campground reservations typically open several months in advance, so peak season visits should be booked as early as possible. Fee attendants staff most gates in season, with self-pay honor vaults during shoulder months.
Oklahoma state parks use the ReserveAmerica-based portal, where reservations must be made at least one day ahead of arrival and can be made up to eleven months in advance. Across the river, Texas State Parks open reservations five months in advance on a rolling basis at 8:00 AM Central Time, which is shorter than most states, so timing is critical for popular parks including Eisenhower State Park.
Private parks such as Riverview RV and Recreational Park, Do Drop Inn RV Resort, Durant / Choctaw Casino KOA, and Sticklers RV Park book directly through their own websites or by phone.
What to expect
Expect a mix of full-hookup private parks and lake-focused public campgrounds. Private options near Colbert generally offer pull-through sites, 30 and 50 amp service, water, sewer, laundry, and Wi-Fi. Riverview RV and Recreational Park in Colbert provides level sites with water, electric, and sewer connections.
Corps of Engineers campgrounds around Lake Texoma trade amenities for shoreline access. Most have water and electric hookups, vault or flush restrooms, boat ramps, and swim areas, though some loops close in winter and cell coverage can be limited. Entrance gates typically open at 6 a.m. and lock at 10 p.m., with posted occupancy limits and one RV per site.
Roads into the region are generally RV-friendly along US-75 and US-70, though gravel spurs inside some lake parks are narrow and best taken slowly with a large rig.

Pro tip: October weekends bring the Cross Timbers Trail's fall color and bald eagle migration to nearby Hagerman and Tishomingo refuges, an unforgettable RV camping Colbert experience.
weather.gov/oun/climateI've never rented an RV before. Is Colbert a good place to start?
It's one of the friendliest places in the country for a first time renting an RV. Every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup: how to level, hook up shore power, dump tanks, run the AC, and use the awning. You can also message your host any time during the trip. Pro tip: book a host with strong reviews mentioning a patient orientation and consider a delivered travel trailer for the most relaxed first-timer experience.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/categories/360002180693-Renting-an-RVWhat happens if I have a breakdown or roadside issue near Colbert?
You're never alone out there. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so a flat tire on US-75, a dead battery at Lakeside Campground, or a tow off a gravel road near Platter Flats is one phone call away. You'll also have your host's number for questions about quirks of the specific RV, and RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after every trip. Pro tip: cell coverage is generally good around Colbert and most of Lake Texoma's Oklahoma shoreline, but save the roadside number in your phone before you leave town in case you wander into a low-signal cove.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Colbert RV rental across state lines or into Texas?
Yes, crossing into Texas is normal and one of the best parts of being in Colbert, you're just minutes from the Red River bridge and the Texas state line. Most RVezy hosts welcome interstate travel throughout the continental US, including popular trips to Dallas, Fort Worth, Austin, and Hot Springs, Arkansas. Confirm your full route with the host before booking so they can verify mileage and coverage. One firm rule: travel to Mexico is not allowed on any RVezy rental because insurance and protection don't extend there. Pro tip: a quick hop across the lake to Eisenhower State Park or Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge in Texas is a Colbert classic, easy and fully covered.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage and gas budget should I plan for?
Fuel is one of the more predictable parts of your trip. Class C motorhomes around Colbert typically get 8 to 10 miles per gallon (mpg) on gas, Class A coaches 6 to 8 mpg, campervans 14 to 18 mpg, and tow vehicles for travel trailers 10 to 14 mpg. Oklahoma consistently has some of the cheapest fuel in the country, gas in Bryan County usually runs 20 to 40 cents per gallon below the national average. The Love's Travel Stop just up US-75 in Calera and the big stations near Choctaw Casino in Durant are easy stops for big rigs. Pro tip: fill up on the Oklahoma side before crossing into Texas, prices typically jump the moment you cross the Red River.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Colbert?
Book sooner than you think, especially for waterfront sites. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers campgrounds on Lake Texoma (Lakeside, Burns Run East and West, Platter Flats, Johnson Creek, Caney Creek, Buncombe Creek) reserve through Recreation.gov up to six months in advance, and the best lakefront spots disappear within days of opening for summer weekends and holidays. Lake Texoma State Park sites reserve up to 11 months ahead through Oklahoma State Parks' system. Private parks like RV Station & Resort in Colbert and Choctaw Casino KOA often have more last-minute availability. Pro tip: aim for a Sunday-to-Thursday stay, midweek sites are easier to grab and quieter for swimming and fishing.
recreation.gov/camping/gateways/578What are the local driving conditions like around Colbert?
Driving here is refreshingly easy. Colbert sits right on US-75, a wide four-lane corridor that connects Dallas and Tulsa, with gentle terrain, generous shoulders, and minimal mountain grades. You'll cross the Red River bridge into Texas on US-75 with no clearance issues for any standard RV, and have flat, straight driving to most lake access points. Watch for two things: sudden spring thunderstorms with high winds (pull off if you see dark anvil clouds, this is tornado alley) and deer at dawn and dusk on rural roads like SH-91. Pro tip: avoid Sunday-evening northbound US-75 traffic when Texans head home from the lake, leave a few hours earlier or later for a stress-free drive.

Free public dump stations are available at several USACE day-use areas around the lake, and potable water fills are plentiful. Pro tip: if you're boondocking or staying at a primitive Corps site, top off fresh water at the Lakeside Campground fill station before heading deeper into the park, it's the most reliable spigot in the Colbert area.
recreation.gov/camping/campground/232472What's included inside a typical RV rental in Colbert?

Campervan rental Colbert options (Class B) trade square footage for nimble lake-road driving and easy parking. Each listing on RVezy shows exactly what's included, with photos. Pro tip: filter for 'generator included' if you plan to dry-camp at a primitive Corps of Engineers site, you'll keep the AC running through those 95-degree Texoma afternoons.
travelok.com/listings/view.profile/id.6549What add-ons and extras can I get with my Colbert RV rental?
Hosts love making your trip easier with smart add-ons. Common extras for an RV rental Oklahoma travelers book include linen and bedding packages ($25 to $75), kitchen kits, camp chairs and outdoor tables, kayaks or stand-up paddleboards (perfect for Lake Texoma's calm coves), portable generators, propane fire pits, and Starlink Wi-Fi. Pickup is usually from the host's home or storage lot, and delivery to Lake Texoma State Park, RV Station & Resort, or your driveway is widely offered for a per-mile fee. Mileage policies are set by each host, you'll see the daily allowance and overage rate clearly on the listing. Pro tip: ask about a 'lake package' bundle, many Colbert-area hosts discount paddleboards and chairs when booked together.
travelok.com/state-parks/lake-texoma-state-parkHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple, secure, and handled through the RVezy platform, never directly with the host. You'll pay your trip total (rental, fees, any add-ons) by credit or debit card at booking, and a refundable security deposit is pre-authorized on your card shortly before pickup. The deposit amount is shown on every listing and is separate from the booking payment. It's released after your trip as long as the RV comes back in the same condition. To avoid issues, do a quick photo walkaround with your host at pickup and drop-off, dump tanks before return if required, and refuel to the agreed level. Pro tip: keep all communication and payment inside RVezy, that's how your protection plan stays valid.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhere can I park or overnight an RV around Colbert if I'm not at a campground?
You have real options for where to park an RV in Colbert. Choctaw Casino & Resort in nearby Durant (about 15 minutes north on US-75) allows RV overnight parking in designated lots, and some retailers in Durant may permit a single-night stay with manager approval, always call ahead. For day-use, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers day-use areas around Lake Texoma have large lots that easily fit big rigs. Avoid overnight parking on Colbert town streets and at boat ramps, those aren't permitted. Pro tip: for a true family RV trip Colbert experience, skip the parking-lot stays and grab a Corps of Engineers site at Lakeside or Burns Run, you'll wake up to water views.
