Campgrounds near Dickson, Oklahoma
Dickson sits in Carter County in south-central Oklahoma, just east of Ardmore and along the northern edge of Lake Murray State Park. The park is the closest major camping destination and the anchor for RV trips based out of Dickson. Lake Murray State Park is Oklahoma's first and largest state park consisting of 12,500 acres of forested, rolling hills around beautiful Lake Murray.
Campgrounds inside the park range from full-hookup RV loops to primitive tent areas. Named options within a short drive of Dickson include ATV - Lake Murray State Park, Field Trial Area - Lake Murray State Park, Martins Landing - Lake Murray State Park, Rock Tower - Lake Murray State Park, and Tipps Point - Lake Murray State Park, each set on a different part of the shoreline or interior of the park. Some RV sites feature full hookups, with a variety of pull-through sites, and bath and shower houses.
The park is administered by the Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department, and all camping, cabin, and lodge reservations should be made online at the TravelOK website. Ardmore, about ten minutes from most park entrances, provides groceries, fuel, propane, and RV service.
Things to do around Dickson
Lake Murray drives most of the recreation. The lake supports swimming, fishing, sailing, paddling, and powerboating, and a marina with boat rentals is located nearby and Lake Country Store is on-site with convenience items. Miles of trails run through the surrounding hills for hiking and mountain biking, and a dedicated ATV, motorcycle, and dirt bike area covers a large section of the park.
On-land amenities include an 18-hole golf course, a swim beach, a swimming pool with changing house, miniature golf, and a riding stable, remote control air field for hobbyists, and picnic pavilions. Naturalist-led nature programs run seasonally. Off-park, families often drive north to Turner Falls Park or west toward the Chickasaw National Recreation Area near Sulphur for day trips.

Camping at Lake Murray State Park is available year-round, but demand and conditions vary sharply by season. Late spring through Labor Day is the busiest window, when daytime temperatures hover around 95°F and the lake becomes the main draw. Sites at the popular lakeside loops book out well ahead for Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day weekends.
Spring brings wildflowers and mild temperatures, along with the wettest stretch of the year. May receives heavy rainfall, with an average of 166 mm of precipitation distributed across roughly 12 rainy days. Severe thunderstorms are possible across southern Oklahoma from March into June. Fall is generally the most comfortable season for RV travel, with warm days, cool nights, and lower humidity.
Winter camping is possible and quieter, with cold nights and occasional light snow. Some loops and gated areas may operate on reduced hours or partial closures during the off-season, so calling the park office before arrival is recommended.

Had a great time on our trip and the owners were super responsive
ASHLEY M. - Jun 2023
If I could rate the experience more than 5 star I would. The communication was outstanding. Evan was in constant communication about pickup, checking in on the experience and checkout. We ended up getting upgraded to a different trailer which was fine with us since we didn’t need a toy hauler. Evan came back out twice. The first was because site only had 30 amp and needed an adapter. The second was because we needed propane and couldn’t get the stove to work. That was primary user error but he got it all rectified. The trailer was amazing, clean and had any and all amenities you would want. The renters are also very nice and friendly people. I would definitely rent from them in the future and highly recommend them.

How to book Dickson campsites
All camping, cabin, and lodge reservations should be made online at the TravelOK website. Reservations must be made 1 day ahead of arrival and can be made up to 11 months in advance. Arrival dates earlier than the online reservation window may also be available at the campground.
For summer and holiday weekends, booking a minimum of three months in advance is advised, since lakeside RV pads at loops such as Tipps Point - Lake Murray State Park and Martins Landing - Lake Murray State Park fill first. One complimentary parking pass is included with each rental, and additional vehicles will incur a parking fee and need to be registered. Questions about specific sites, hookup types, or availability can be directed to the park directly at 580-223-4044.
What to expect at Dickson campgrounds
Roads inside Lake Murray State Park are paved and generally easy to navigate with a rental RV, and scenic highway 77S runs around the entire park and connects to all of the areas, campgrounds, beaches, and more within Lake Murray State Park. Elephant Rock, Cedar Cove and Tipps Point are gated, offering more privacy, while Martins Landing - Lake Murray State Park, Rock Tower - Lake Murray State Park, and Field Trial Area - Lake Murray State Park sit closer to trails and open shoreline. ATV - Lake Murray State Park is set inland with direct access to the off-road terrain.
Hookup availability varies by loop and site number, so verify amps, sewer, and pad length at booking. Cell coverage is generally reliable near Ardmore and along the main park roads. Summer sun is intense, so shaded pull-throughs and awnings help. Store food securely, as raccoons and other wildlife are active after dark.

To rent on RVezy you typically need to be 25 or older with a valid license, and RVezy verifies your ID right inside the platform during booking. Visiting from abroad? help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Dickson RV trip?
Plans change, and booking with RVezy is low-risk because cancellation policies are set by RVezy, not by individual hosts. Every booking includes a grace period after you book where you can get a full refund, and additional refund tiers apply depending on how far out from your trip you cancel. You will not see cancellation terms attached to individual listings because the policy applies platform-wide. Book your Lake Texoma RV trip early to lock in peak summer dates, knowing you have a cushion if something changes.

Yes, pets are welcome at most lakes and campgrounds near Dickson. Lake Murray State Park, Lake Texoma State Park, and the Buckhorn Campground at Chickasaw National Recreation Area all allow leashed pets on trails and at campsites. Pack a long tie-out lead so your dog can lounge outside the RV while you grill lakeside dinners.
travelok.com/state-parks/lake-murray-state-parkCan a host deliver the RV to my campsite near Dickson?
Yes, RV delivery in Dickson is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-timers. Many local hosts will drive the RV directly to your site at Lake Texoma State Park, Lake Murray State Park, Buckhorn Campground, or even a private property, then set it up, level it, hook up water and power, and give you a full walkthrough. That means you never have to tow or drive the rig yourself. Use the Delivery filter on RVezy to see which hosts offer this and how far they will travel. Ask about delivery to Catfish Bay Marina inside Lake Texoma State Park if you want striper fishing right outside your door.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Dickson%2C%20OklahomaHow far can I travel from Dickson on an RV road trip?
Plenty of great destinations sit within easy reach for an RV road trip from Dickson. Chickasaw National Recreation Area in Sulphur is just 30 miles north, Lake Murray State Park is about 20 miles southwest near Ardmore, and Turner Falls Park is roughly 45 miles north in the Arbuckle Mountains. Dallas-Fort Worth is about 130 miles south, and Oklahoma City sits 120 miles north on I-35. Filter for unlimited mileage if you are planning a multi-stop loop through southern Oklahoma and north Texas.
nps.gov/chic/planyourvisit/directions.htmWhere are the best campgrounds near Dickson, OK?

Chickasaw National Recreation Area's Buckhorn Campground sits on Lake of the Arbuckles with shaded sites and showers, and The Point Campground at Chickasaw is also a popular choice with hookups. Oklahoma state park sites can be reserved in advance through the state park reservation system, and summer weekends fill fast.
recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/234436When is the best time of year for an RV trip in Dickson, OK?
Dickson rewards visitors nearly year-round, but April through early June and mid-September through October are the sweet spots. Spring brings wildflower blooms in the Arbuckle Mountains and water temperatures warm enough for swimming, with highs in the 70s and 80s. Fall offers comfortable 70 to 85 degree days, fewer crowds, and prime striper fishing on Lake Texoma. Summer (June to August) gets hot, often pushing 95 degrees, but it is peak lake season. Winters are mild with highs in the 50s and occasional dips below freezing at night. Book an October trip to combine fall color at Chickasaw National Recreation Area with cooler hiking weather.
weather.gov/oun/I've never rented an RV before. How does it work in Dickson?
First time renting an RV? You will feel ready after a 30 to 60 minute walkthrough with your host on pickup day. They will show you how to operate the slide-outs, awning, water and waste systems, generator, AC, and propane appliances, plus answer any driving questions. You can also message your host through RVezy before booking to talk through your route, whether that is a quiet weekend at Lake Texoma State Park or a tour of the Arbuckles. RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after your trip. Choose a Class C motorhome or travel trailer for your first Dickson RV trip, they are easier to maneuver than larger Class A rigs.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/categories/360002180313-For-rentersWhat if something breaks down during my Dickson RV trip?
You are never on your own. Every motorhome rental in Dickson booked through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so help is one phone call away whether you are at Lake Texoma's Catfish Bay Marina, deep in Chickasaw National Recreation Area, or cruising down US-70. Roadside coverage handles common issues like flat tires, dead batteries, tow assistance, and lockouts. Your host is also typically reachable for questions about the rig's specific quirks, and RVezy support is available around the clock. Snap a photo of the spare tire location and propane shut-off during your walkthrough so you can act fast if needed.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I drive my Dickson RV rental into Texas or other states?
Yes, interstate travel is welcome on most RVezy rentals from Dickson, which makes sense given Lake Texoma straddles the Oklahoma-Texas border. Popular cross-state routes include Dickson to Eisenhower State Park in Denison, TX (about 45 miles), down to the Dallas-Fort Worth area (130 miles), or west into the Texas Hill Country. Confirm with your host before booking if you are planning a longer multi-state loop. Travel to Mexico is not allowed on any RVezy rental because insurance and protection coverage end at the border. A Dickson to Hot Springs, Arkansas trip (about 5 hours east) makes a fantastic week-long RV road trip from Dickson.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/eisenhowerHow much should I budget for fuel on a Dickson RV trip?
Oklahoma consistently has some of the lowest gas prices in the country, which is good news for your fuel budget. Class C motorhomes typically get 8 to 12 miles per gallon (MPG), Class A rigs 6 to 10 MPG, and travel trailers will pull your tow vehicle's MPG down by 30 to 40 percent. For a 200-mile weekend loop around Lake Texoma and Chickasaw National Recreation Area, plan on roughly $60 to $100 in fuel for most rigs depending on current pump prices. Fill up in Ardmore where Love's truck stops often have unleaded and diesel a few cents cheaper than at lake-area stations.
gasprices.aaa.com/?state=OKHow far in advance should I book a campground near Dickson?
For the most popular spots, book early and you will lock in the best sites. Oklahoma state parks like Lake Murray and Lake Texoma accept reservations well in advance through the state park reservation system, and prime summer weekends, Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day can fill months out. Chickasaw National Recreation Area's reservable sites at Buckhorn and The Point are booked on Recreation.gov up to 6 months ahead. Some loops keep first-come, first-served sites if you are flexible. Midweek arrivals (Monday or Tuesday) give you a much better shot at lakefront full-hookup sites at Lake Texoma area campgrounds.
recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/234436What are driving conditions like around Dickson, OK?
Driving an RV around Dickson is genuinely easy compared to most destinations. Highways like US-70, US-77, and I-35 are flat, wide, and well-maintained, with gentle terrain through Carter County and modest rolling hills as you approach the Arbuckle Mountains near Sulphur and Davis. Watch for spring thunderstorms (March to May) that can bring strong winds, and check the National Weather Service Norman office's forecast before you head out, as south-central Oklahoma is part of Tornado Alley. Cross-winds on the long bridges over Lake Texoma warrant a slower speed. Avoid travel during late-afternoon storm windows in spring and you will have smooth, scenic driving.
weather.gov/oun/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Dickson?
Campgrounds near Dickson are well set up for a comfortable stay. Lake Texoma area campgrounds typically offer full hookups (water, sewer, 30/50 amp electric), bathhouses with hot showers, flush toilets, public laundry, and dump stations. Lake Murray State Park has similar amenities plus a marina, swimming pool, and on-site store. Chickasaw National Recreation Area's Buckhorn and The Point campgrounds have electric and water hookups, restrooms, and dump stations. Most parks also have potable water fill stations near the campground entrance. If you are staying at a partial-hookup site, the dump stations at the state parks are easy to access on your way out.
nps.gov/chic/planyourvisit/camping.htmWhat's inside a typical RV rental in Dickson?
Even the smaller rigs come well-equipped. A typical Class C motorhome rental in Dickson sleeps 4 to 7 and includes a queen bed, dinette and sofa that convert to beds, a full kitchen (fridge, microwave, three-burner stove, sink), a bathroom with toilet and shower, air conditioning, furnace, and often a generator for off-grid power. Travel trailers offer similar layouts without the cab. Most rentals include seatbelts for everyone on board, and many hosts add Wi-Fi hotspots, outdoor TVs, or Bluetooth speakers as add-ons. A campervan rental in Dickson is a great pick for couples wanting a smaller, easier-to-drive rig. Confirm the bed configuration with your host so the whole family sleeps comfortably.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Dickson%2C%20OklahomaWhat add-ons can I get with my Dickson RV rental?
Hosts on RVezy offer all kinds of helpful extras to customize your trip. Common add-ons in the Dickson area include camping chairs and tables, bedding and linen packages, kitchen kits, propane fire pits, kayaks or stand-up paddleboards (perfect for Lake Texoma), bike racks, generators, and pet packages. Delivery and setup is the most popular add-on, with fees usually based on mileage from the host's home base. Mileage policies vary: some listings include unlimited mileage, others give you 100 to 150 free miles per day with a small per-mile overage. Bundle delivery with a paddleboard add-on and you can arrive at Lake of the Arbuckles ready to launch within minutes.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Dickson%2C%20OklahomaHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is straightforward and secure. You pay through RVezy at the time of booking using a credit or debit card, and your funds are held safely until your trip begins, so the host does not receive payment until you have picked up the RV. A refundable security deposit is also held separately, and it is released back to your card after the trip if the RV is returned in good condition with no policy violations. Do a thorough walkthrough at pickup and dropoff with your host, take photos of the interior, exterior, and odometer, and you will avoid any deposit surprises after your Dickson RV trip.
