Camping near Pickett, Oklahoma
Pickett is a small community in Pontotoc County in south-central Oklahoma, sitting a short drive from the city of Ada and within reach of the Arbuckle Mountain foothills. RV travelers use it as a base for exploring Chickasaw National Recreation Area, Lake of the Arbuckles, and the network of creeks, springs, and off-road trails that run through the region.
Close-in RV options cluster around Ada. Scissortail RV Park and Twin Lakes RV Park both offer full-hookup sites suited to big rigs, while The Community RV Park adds another in-town choice for travelers wanting basic hookups near services. Soggy Bottom Trails Pub & Campground caters to riders and families looking for ATV access and on-site food and music.
For a national-park experience, Cold Springs Campground inside Chickasaw National Recreation Area sits about an hour southwest near Sulphur, offering tent-oriented sites in mature oak and hickory forest along Travertine Creek.
Things to do around Pickett
Water and trails drive most itineraries. Chickasaw National Recreation Area covers roughly 9,900 acres of springs, streams, and the 2,350-acre Lake of the Arbuckles, with swimming at Little Niagara and Bear Falls on Travertine Creek, over 30 miles of hiking trails, and boat launches for fishing and water sports. The Travertine Nature Center is a good rainy-day stop with kids.
Closer to Pickett, Wintersmith Park in Ada has a lake, playgrounds, and easy walking paths. Soggy Bottom Trails Pub & Campground offers ATV riding, creek access, and live music on-site. Lake Murray State Park sits about an hour south for boating and longer trail days.

Spring and fall are the strongest windows for RV travel in this part of Oklahoma. March through May brings wildflowers, warming temperatures, and good hiking conditions, but May is also the wettest month, and severe-thunderstorm and tornado risk peaks across central and southern Oklahoma from April into early June. Watch forecasts and use storm shelters where available.
Summer runs hot and humid, with afternoon highs frequently in the 90s Fahrenheit. The spring-fed swimming holes at Chickasaw stay cool through the season and are the main draw in July and August, so weekend sites at popular campgrounds fill early. Cold Springs Campground now operates by reservation for the summer season and often fills every summer weekend.
Fall cools quickly through October and November with lower rainfall and thinner crowds, making it a favorite window for anglers on Lake of the Arbuckles. Winter is short and mild overall, though hard freezes occur and park water systems can be shut off during deep cold snaps.
How to book campgrounds near Pickett
Federal sites inside Chickasaw National Recreation Area are booked through Recreation.gov or by calling 1-877-444-6777. Cold Springs Campground is reservation-only for the summer season and can be reserved up to the day of arrival if space remains. Rock Creek Campground within the park stays first-come, first-served, giving late planners a backup.
Private parks near Ada, including Scissortail RV Park, Twin Lakes RV Park, and The Community RV Park, take reservations directly through their operators. Reservations are strongly recommended, especially for big-rig pull-throughs. Soggy Bottom Trails Pub & Campground books through its own site and offers day-use entry that covers ATV trail access.
What to expect on the ground
Terrain around Pickett is gently rolling with oak and hickory woodlands and open pasture. Roads to the private RV parks near Ada are generally paved and easy for big rigs, though signage can be limited in spots, so calling ahead rather than relying only on GPS is a good idea.
Inside Chickasaw National Recreation Area, Cold Springs is tent-only with no electric hookups and no showers, and parking is limited to two average-size vehicles per site with no overflow. Larger rigs are better suited to Buckhorn or The Point on Lake of the Arbuckles, where some sites offer water and 30-amp electric.
Cell coverage is generally reliable near Ada and thinner in the park interior. Alcohol is prohibited at Cold Springs from May 1 through September 30, and marijuana is prohibited throughout the recreation area at all times.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Pickett, OK
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Pickett, OK?
An RV rental in Pickett is one of the most affordable ways to explore south-central Oklahoma, with most listings ranging from around $90 to $200 per night depending on the size and age of the rig. Travel trailers and pop-ups sit at the lower end, while Class C motorhomes and fifth wheels run higher. Because Pickett is a small Pontotoc County community just west of Ada, you'll often find better value here than near Oklahoma City. Pro tip: midweek bookings in March, April, or October are the sweet spot for a cheap RV rental Pickett trip, since you'll dodge Memorial Day and Fourth of July price bumps around Lake of the Arbuckles.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Pickett,OklahomaWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Pickett, OK?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Pickett, Oklahoma. The state does not require a commercial driver's license (CDL) or any special RV endorsement for motorhomes or trailers used recreationally, so your standard Class D license works for Class B campervans, Class C motorhomes, travel trailers, and even most fifth wheels on the RVezy platform. You'll need to be 25 or older, and RVezy verifies your ID right inside the booking flow, so there's no extra paperwork to chase down. Visiting from abroad? Bring your home license plus an International Driving Permit and you're ready to roll out toward Ada and the Arbuckles.

Pro tip: review the cancellation policy details on RVezy before you confirm, and message the host any questions about dates so you can book your Oklahoma adventure with confidence.

nps.gov/chic/planyourvisit/pets.htmCan the RV be delivered to my campground near Pickett?
Yes, RV delivery Pickett is one of the easiest ways to start your trip, and many local hosts offer it as an add-on. They'll tow or drive the RV to your campsite at Chickasaw National Recreation Area, Lake of the Arbuckles, or a private property in Ada, then level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before handing over the keys. That's perfect if it's your first time renting an RV or you'd rather skip driving a big rig down Highway 19. Use the Delivery filter on RVezy to see hosts who serve the Pickett and Ada area, then message them for an exact delivery quote based on mileage.

recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/234271When is the best time of year for an RV trip from Pickett?

Winters are mild by national standards (January highs around 50°F), making cold-weather camping doable with a heated rig. Heads up: April and May are peak severe-weather season in Oklahoma, so watch forecasts and pick campgrounds with sturdy bathhouses for shelter.
weather.gov/oun/I've never rented an RV before. How does it work in Pickett?
You're in great hands, even if it's your first time renting an RV. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on walkthrough at pickup covering the generator, water tanks, slide-outs, propane, and dump procedures, so you're not figuring it out alone on a Pontotoc County backroad. Most hosts near Pickett also send a written cheat sheet and stay reachable by text throughout your trip. Roads around Pickett are flat, low-traffic, two-lane highways (Highway 19 east to Ada, west to Stratford), which makes them ideal practice before bigger drives. Pro tip: book a smaller Class C or travel trailer for your first trip, they're easier to maneuver and park at lakeside campgrounds.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if I have a breakdown during my Pickett RV trip?
You're never stranded. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, covering things like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and tow service whether you're parked in Pickett or boondocking near Lake of the Arbuckles. One call connects you to dispatch, who'll send help to your exact location, and your host is also a direct line for questions about quirks specific to their rig. Ada (about 5 miles east) has full-service mechanics, tire shops, and auto-parts stores if anything needs same-day attention. Pro tip: save the roadside number in your phone before pickup and snap a photo of the VIN.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Pickett RV rental across state lines?
Yes, interstate travel is welcome on most RVezy rentals, and Pickett's location in south-central Oklahoma makes it a great launch point. Popular RV road trip from Pickett ideas include the drive south to the Texas Hill Country via I-35, a 4-hour drive east to Hot Springs, Arkansas, and roughly 5 hours to Branson, Missouri. Travel into Canada may be allowed with host approval and updated insurance documentation, but travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because insurance coverage does not extend there. Pro tip: tell your host your full route when booking so they can confirm everything and provide the correct paperwork.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat should I budget for fuel on a Pickett RV trip?
Fuel is one of the friendlier line items on an Oklahoma RV trip because gas in Pontotoc County typically runs near or below the national average, and the small towns along Highway 19 make for easy fill-ups. Class C motorhomes average 8 to 12 MPG, Class B campervans get 16 to 20 MPG, and if you're towing a travel trailer behind your own truck, expect a 20 to 30 percent drop in your usual MPG. For a 300-mile loop from Pickett through Sulphur, Davis, and Ardmore, budget roughly $100 to $180 in fuel depending on current prices. Pro tip: top up in Ada before heading into the Arbuckle Mountains, where stations are spaced further apart.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Pickett?
For the best sites, aim to book 3 to 6 months ahead, especially for The Point and Buckhorn campgrounds at Chickasaw National Recreation Area, which fill quickly for summer weekends and holidays. Reservations are handled through Recreation.gov, where booking windows typically open 6 months in advance on a rolling daily basis. Oklahoma State Parks like Lake Murray also accept reservations several months out through their official reservation system. For shoulder-season trips in March, April, or October, you can often find sites within 2 to 4 weeks of your dates. Pro tip: weekday arrivals (Sunday through Thursday) give you a much better shot at lakeside spots and quieter neighbors.
recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/234271What are driving conditions like around Pickett, OK?
Driving an RV around Pickett is refreshingly stress-free. State Highway 19 is a flat, two-lane road with light traffic connecting Pickett east to Ada and west to Stratford, ideal for getting comfortable with a larger rig. Heading toward Chickasaw National Recreation Area you'll find gently rolling terrain through the Arbuckle foothills. The main thing to watch for is Oklahoma weather: spring thunderstorms can bring hail and high winds (March through June is peak severe-weather season), and summer heat can stress tires, so check pressure every morning. Pro tip: avoid driving Arbuckle backroads at dusk because deer crossings are common in Pontotoc and Murray counties.
oklaroads.com/What hookups and amenities will I find at campgrounds near Pickett?

Lake Murray State Park (about 75 miles south) offers full hookups including sewer at many sites. Most campgrounds have hot showers, fire rings, picnic tables, and trash service. Larger Class A and Class C motorhomes add slide-outs for extra living space, while travel trailers and fifth wheels often sleep 6 to 8 with bunks. Common add-ons include bedding and linen packages, fully stocked kitchen kits, outdoor furniture, generators, bike racks, kayaks, propane refills, and pet packages. Pro tip: bundle delivery, setup, and a propane refill when you book, it often costs less than buying à la carte and saves you setup time at the campsite.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Pickett,OklahomaHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is handled securely through RVezy, so you never hand cash to the host. When you book, you'll pay the trip total (nightly rate, host fees, protection plan, and any add-ons) using a credit or debit card, and a refundable security deposit is held separately by RVezy, with the amount set per listing depending on the RV. The deposit is released after your trip if there's no damage, no missing items, and no extra mileage or generator charges. Pro tip: do a quick video walkaround with your host at pickup and drop-off at the Pickett-area location, return the rig with a full fuel tank, and empty the gray and black tanks to keep your full deposit refund moving fast.
