Campgrounds near Pine Hollow, Oregon
Pine Hollow sits on the east flank of the Cascade Range in Wasco County, Oregon, about 12 miles west-northwest of Maupin near the boundary of the Mount Hood National Forest. The community wraps around Pine Hollow Reservoir, an impoundment of Threemile and Pine Hollow creeks created in the 1960s, with roughly 3.2 miles of shoreline and public boat access. The reservoir is managed jointly by the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife and the local irrigation district.
RV travelers have a mix of private resorts, tribal RV parks, and state-park campgrounds within easy reach. Pine Hollow Lakeside Resort sits directly on the reservoir near Wamic and Tygh Valley. Oasis Riverview Campground and Kah-Nee-Ta High Desert RV Park draw RVers south toward the Deschutes River and the Warm Springs Reservation. North along the Columbia River Gorge, Columbia Hills State Park and Memaloose State Park add public-land options with hookups, hiking, and river views.
The area combines high-desert terrain, lake recreation, and proximity to Mount Hood, making it a practical base for family RV trips.
Things to do near Pine Hollow
On the reservoir, anglers fish for rainbow trout, brown bullheads, largemouth bass, and bluegill, and the lake is regularly stocked. Pine Hollow Lakeside Resort offers boat rentals, a swimming area, and lawn games on the water.
Day trips reach in several directions. White River Falls State Park lies a short drive east, the Deschutes River whitewater hub of Maupin sits roughly 12 miles away, and Mount Hood National Forest trailheads are immediately west. Kah-Nee-Ta Hot Springs Resort adds mineral pools, a lazy river, horseback riding, and a three-mile river tube float.
North in the Columbia Gorge, Columbia Hills State Park offers guided tours of the pictographs and petroglyphs, including the significant Tsagaglalal, on Fridays and Saturdays, April through October, plus miles of wildflower hiking from the Crawford Oaks and Dalles Mountain Ranch trailheads and climbing at Horsethief Butte.

Summer is the core RV season. Days are hot and dry in the high desert, the reservoir warms enough for swimming and water skiing, and full campground services run at private and state parks. Sites fill quickly on Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day weekends, and burn bans are common across central and eastern Oregon during peak fire weather.
Spring brings wildflowers across the Columbia Hills, with lupine and balsam root blooming in mid-April. Reservoir levels are typically full, but nights remain cold and some park services come online only in mid to late March. Water may remain off and restrooms closed at Memaloose until mid to late March, due to weather conditions, with the campground open mid-March through October.
Fall offers cooler temperatures, fewer crowds, and steady fishing. Winter is quiet: Pine Hollow Lakeside Resort stays open for year-round fishing, while many gorge and state-park facilities reduce services or close until spring.
How to book a campsite near Pine Hollow
Reservation systems vary by operator. Pine Hollow Lakeside Resort books directly with the resort by phone or through its website, and longer notice is required for Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day weekends. Kah-Nee-Ta High Desert RV Park is reserved through the Kah-Nee-Ta Hot Springs Resort website, which offers 50 sites with utility hookups and 20 additional RV parking spots.
Oregon state-park campgrounds, including Memaloose State Park, accept reservations up to 6 months in advance at oregonstateparks.reserveamerica.com or by phone. Columbia Hills State Park on the Washington side uses the Washington State Parks system, where campsites are reservable from May 15 through September 15, online or by calling (888) 226-7688; outside that window, sites are first come, first served.
For summer weekends, book as soon as the reservation window opens, and check for cancellations midweek.
What to expect on the ground
Pine Hollow Lakeside Resort runs a family-oriented layout with sites close together, an on-site store, dump station, hot showers, laundromat, playground, and a swimming area on the reservoir. Expect warm shallow water along the banks and hot, dusty afternoons in midsummer.
Kah-Nee-Ta High Desert RV Park offers utility hookups, pull-through parking, and resort access to mineral hot-spring pools, a spa, and a restaurant. The resort reopened on July 18, 2024 after a multi-year rebuild, and some site utilities are still being refined.
In the Columbia Gorge, Memaloose and Columbia Hills both sit next to active rail lines and busy highways, so trains and road noise can be heard at all hours. Frequent Columbia River Gorge winds can affect awnings, boating, and tent setups, so arrive prepared to stake down gear.

Oregon does not require a commercial driver's license (CDL) or any special endorsement for personal-use motorhomes or travel trailers you'll find on RVezy. Approved drivers are generally 25 or older, and RVezy verifies your ID through the platform during booking, so the process stays quick and simple. Visiting from overseas? help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs RV rental in Pine Hollow protected if something goes wrong?
Absolutely, every RV rental in Pine Hollow booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can head into the high desert with real peace of mind. Protection plans cover most damages to the vehicle, and you choose your preferred coverage level during checkout, not the host. That means if you nick a mirror on a tight Wamic Market Road turn or get a flat heading up Forest Road 48, you're not on the hook alone. This isn't traditional auto insurance, but it gives renters meaningful financial protection. Pro tip: review the plan options carefully at booking, especially if you're towing a fifth wheel for the first time.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Pine Hollow RV trip?
Booking is low risk: RVezy sets a clear cancellation policy for every reservation, including a full money-back grace period right after you book. That means if your plans shift early, you have built-in flexibility. Cancellation terms depend on how far ahead of your trip you cancel, and refunds can be considered in circumstances such as natural disasters, which matter in this part of Oregon where wildfire smoke can occasionally affect the Mt. Hood corridor in late summer. Hosts don't set these rules, RVezy does, so the policy is consistent across every listing. Pro tip: book early to lock in your preferred rig for Pine Hollow Reservoir's prime July weekends, knowing you have that grace window if anything changes.

Yes, pet-friendly RV rental in Pine Hollow is easy to find on RVezy, just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on the search page. Many local hosts welcome dogs because this area is built for them: Pine Hollow Reservoir's shoreline has off-leash-friendly stretches, and Mt. Hood National Forest trails like the McCubbins Gulch area allow leashed pets. Pine Hollow Lakeside Resort also welcomes pets at campsites with standard leash rules. Always confirm any pet fee directly with the host through the listing's message tool. Pro tip: bring a long lead and a collapsible water bowl, summer afternoons in Wasco County regularly hit the upper 80s and your pup will thank you for the lake dip after a hike.
fs.usda.gov/recmain/mthood/recreationCan a host deliver the RV to my campsite in Pine Hollow?
Yes, RV delivery in Pine Hollow is one of the smartest moves you can make, especially if you're a first-timer. Many RVezy hosts will drop the motorhome or travel trailer directly at Pine Hollow Lakeside Resort, a Hipcamp site, or a private cabin, level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every switch before they leave. That means no white-knuckle towing down Highway 197 or navigating the gravel road into the reservoir. Use the Delivery filter when searching, then message the host with your exact campsite number. Pro tip: ask about a pickup-and-return delivery package so you can skip both ends of the drive and just enjoy the lake.

From Pine Hollow you are roughly 25 miles to Maupin for Deschutes River rafting, 45 miles to Hood River, 130 miles to Bend, and about 100 miles to Portland. fs.usda.gov/recarea/mthood/recreation/camping-cabinsWhen is the best time for an RV trip to Pine Hollow?
Late May through mid-October is the sweet spot for RV camping in Pine Hollow, with June and September standing out as the smart-money months. Summer highs at the reservoir typically reach the mid-80s to low 90s, while nights cool into the 50s, perfect sleeping weather with the windows cracked. July and August bring the warmest swim days and the busiest campgrounds. Spring opens with the famous late-April Pine Hollow Fishing Derby, and fall delivers golden cottonwoods plus excellent trout fishing. Winters dip into the 20s and 30s with occasional snow, so most casual renters stick to the warm-weather window. Pro tip: aim for the week after Labor Day, warm water, empty campsites, and dropping rates.
weather.gov/pqr/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving around Pine Hollow?
Yes, first time renting an RV in this area is very manageable. Pine Hollow sits in open Wasco County terrain with wide rural roads like Wamic Market Road and Ross Road, far less stressful than navigating Portland or the Columbia Gorge in a big rig. Every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup covering propane, slide-outs, water, waste, and driving tips, and you can text them anytime during your trip. Start with a Class C motorhome or a small travel trailer if you're nervous, they handle like a large van. Pro tip: do a slow practice loop through Wamic before heading to your campsite so the rig feels familiar before you tackle the gravel access roads.
oregon.gov/odot/safety/pages/index.aspxWhat happens if my RV breaks down near Pine Hollow?
You're covered. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance with the protection plan, so a flat tire on Highway 197, a dead battery at the boat ramp, or a tow off a forest road is handled with one phone call. Your host is also just a message away for quick mechanical questions, like resetting the inverter or relighting the water heater. Cell coverage at Pine Hollow Reservoir is moderate on Verizon and spottier on other carriers, so screenshot the roadside number before you leave Wamic. Pro tip: do a quick walk-around every morning, checking tires, hitch, and slide seals prevents most issues before they start and keeps your trip rolling smoothly.

Add the John Day Fossil Beds via Highway 26, roughly a 3 hour scenic haul east. Cross-border travel into Washington is allowed on most rentals, but trips to Mexico are not permitted on RVezy due to insurance limits. traveloregon.com/things-to-do/trip-ideas/scenic-drives/What kind of fuel mileage should I budget for my Pine Hollow RV rental?

Campervans and Class B vans average 18 to 22 mpg, Class C motorhomes run 8 to 12 mpg, and Class A rigs hover around 6 to 10 mpg. Travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle, expect a 20 to 30 percent mpg drop while towing. Oregon gas prices in the Pine Hollow area typically sit slightly above the national average, and the closest reliable fill-ups are in Tygh Valley and Maupin on Highway 197. Pro tip: top off in The Dalles before heading up, fuel is usually cheaper on the I-84 corridor than at the rural stations near the reservoir.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Pine Hollow?
For peak summer weekends and the late-April fishing derby, reserve 3 to 6 months ahead at Pine Hollow Lakeside Resort, sites disappear fast because lakefront RV spots are limited. Mt. Hood National Forest campgrounds like Rock Creek Reservoir and Bear Springs are bookable on Recreation.gov up to 6 months in advance, and the prime weekends go within minutes of release. For midweek stays in June or September, 2 to 4 weeks ahead is usually fine. Pro tip: if you strike out at Pine Hollow Lakeside, search Hipcamp for private 5-acre parcels in Wamic and Tygh Valley, many have power and water hookups and stay open when public sites are full.
recreation.gov/What are driving conditions like around Pine Hollow, OR?
Driving an RV around Pine Hollow is refreshingly low stress most of the year. Highway 197 and Highway 216 are paved two-lane roads with gentle grades, and the final stretch into the reservoir along Ross Road is well-maintained gravel suitable for any rig. Watch for deer and wild turkeys at dawn and dusk, they're common around Wamic. In winter, expect snow and ice from December through March, and chains may be required on routes crossing Mt. Hood. Summer wildfire smoke can occasionally reduce visibility. Check TripCheck.com for real-time Oregon road conditions. Pro tip: avoid the steep Highway 197 grade down into Maupin in a large Class A if you're new to motorhomes, take Highway 216 instead.

Hood National Forest, water sources get scarce east of the Cascades in late summer.

Many RVezy listings include a generator for off-grid power, a TV, and basic kitchen kits with plates, pans, and coffee makers. Built-in WiFi is uncommon, cell hotspots work best since Pine Hollow Reservoir has moderate Verizon coverage. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm exactly what is stocked (bedding, towels, camp chairs) so you only pack what you actually need for your reservoir stay.

Pickup is typically at the host's home in Wamic, Tygh Valley, The Dalles, or Maupin, and you'll get a full walkthrough at handover. Mileage allowances vary by listing, usually 100 to 150 free miles per day with overage fees clearly posted. Pro tip: ask about a Pine Hollow Lakeside delivery package, the resort is well-known to local hosts and many will quote a flat fee straight to your campsite.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Pine%20Hollow%2C%20OregonHow do payment and the security deposit work for an RV rental in Oregon?
Payment for your RV rental in Oregon is handled securely through the RVezy platform, never in cash to the host, which protects both sides. You'll pay the booking total through RVezy using a credit or debit card. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment and released after your trip wraps up cleanly. To avoid any holds, return the RV on time, refilled with fuel, with tanks dumped if your booking requires it, and free of new damage. Pro tip: take time-stamped photos and a quick video of the interior and exterior at both pickup and drop-off in Wamic or Tygh Valley, it's the single best way to keep your deposit return fast and friction-free.
