RV camping near Allison, Pennsylvania
Allison sits in Fayette County in southwestern Pennsylvania, roughly an hour south of Pittsburgh and a short drive from the Laurel Highlands. The area gives RV travelers quick access to the Youghiogheny River corridor, Ohiopyle State Park, and the Frank Lloyd Wright landmarks at Fallingwater and Kentuck Knob. Uniontown, the nearest full-service town, sits just to the south for groceries, propane, dump stations, and RV service.
Campgrounds close to Allison range from small family-run parks to larger resort-style properties. Firehouse RV Campgrounds and The Blue Canoe RV Resort operate closest to town, while Sand Springs Campground and Benner's Meadow Run Camping and Cabins sit deeper in the Laurel Highlands near Ohiopyle and the Youghiogheny. Madison/Pittsburgh SE KOA Journey offers a chain-standard option north of the area on the way toward Pittsburgh.
The terrain is rolling to mountainous, with forested ridges, rivers, and farmland. Most private parks accommodate large Class A and fifth-wheel rigs, though some backcountry state-forest routes have low clearances and tight turns worth checking in advance.
Things to do near Allison
Ohiopyle State Park is the dominant draw. It anchors the Middle Yough and Lower Yough sections of the Youghiogheny River, both popular for whitewater rafting, kayaking, and tubing, and the Great Allegheny Passage rail-trail runs through the park for cycling toward Pittsburgh or Cumberland, Maryland.
Fallingwater and Kentuck Knob, two Frank Lloyd Wright houses, sit within about twenty minutes of the state park and require timed-entry tickets booked in advance. Fort Necessity National Battlefield covers French and Indian War history along the Historic National Road.
For family days, Laurel Caverns offers guided cave tours, and Nemacolin and Seven Springs handle skiing, tubing, and off-road driving. Anglers fish the Yough tailwaters and stocked mountain streams, and hunters use nearby Forbes State Forest during regulated seasons.

Peak RV season runs late May through mid-October. Summer brings warm, humid days ideal for river activities, but afternoon thunderstorms are common and the Youghiogheny can spike quickly after heavy rain. Rafting outfitters release trip status daily based on river gauges.
Spring opens most private campgrounds in April, and the Kentuck Campground at Ohiopyle typically operates from April into mid-December. Wildflowers, high water, and cool nights define this window. Fall is arguably the best time to visit: crisp air, low humidity, and strong foliage color across the Laurel Ridge from late September into mid-October. Book fall weekends early, as leaf-peeper traffic fills sites quickly.
Winter is quiet. Many private parks close or operate on limited hookups from November through March, and Ohiopyle's main campground closes in mid-December for the winter. Snow, ice, and mountain grades on Route 40 and Route 381 call for chains, good tires, and a flexible schedule.

Booking and reservations
Ohiopyle State Park campground reservations run through the Pennsylvania state parks reservation system operated by Reserve America. Sites can be booked up to eleven months in advance, and holiday weekends often sell out the day the window opens. A limited number of first-come sites may be available, but should not be relied on in summer.
Private campgrounds near Allison, including Firehouse RV Campgrounds, The Blue Canoe RV Resort, Sand Springs Campground, and Benner's Meadow Run Camping and Cabins, take reservations directly by phone or through their own websites. Madison/Pittsburgh SE KOA Journey books through the KOA site and app.
For summer weekends and October foliage, reserve two to three months out. Confirm rig length limits, slide clearance, and hookup type when booking, especially for longer fifth-wheels and Class A coaches.
What to expect on the ground
Cell coverage is reliable in Uniontown and along Route 40 but drops in the deeper river gorges around Ohiopyle and inside Forbes State Forest. Verizon and AT&T generally perform best. Grocery, fuel, and propane are easiest to handle in Uniontown or Connellsville before heading into the mountains.
Roads into private campgrounds are mostly paved but can be narrow and hilly. Route 381 and the approach to Ohiopyle include steep grades and switchbacks that reward slower speeds and engine braking. Watch for cyclists on rural shoulders and along the Great Allegheny Passage crossings.
Expect black bears, deer, and raccoons in the region. Store food securely, use bear-aware trash procedures at forested sites, and keep pets leashed. Firewood should be bought locally to limit invasive pests such as spotted lanternfly and emerald ash borer.

Summer (June through August) typically sees highs in the upper 70s to mid 80s F and is prime time for whitewater rafting on the Youghiogheny River, while spring brings wildflowers and roaring waterfalls at Ohiopyle. Winters are cold (often 20 to 35 F with snow), but several area campgrounds remain open and Seven Springs ski resort is just up the road for a winter motorhome rental in Allison adventure. You can message any host through the listing page with questions before you book, and RVezy customer support is available to help. Pro tip: pick a smaller Class C or travel trailer for your first Allison, PA RV trip; they handle Route 40 and the curves to Ohiopyle far more comfortably than a 35-foot Class A.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Allison,PennsylvaniaWhat happens if the RV breaks down during my trip?
You're never stranded. Every eligible RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so a flat tire on Route 381 or a dead battery at Kentuck Campground is just a phone call away from getting handled. Assistance typically covers towing, lockouts, jump-starts, tire changes, and fuel delivery. Your host is also a direct lifeline, most local owners respond within minutes and know the closest service shop in Uniontown or Connellsville. Pro tip: snap a quick photo of the RV's VIN and roadside assistance number at pickup and save it to your phone. Cell signal can get spotty in the Youghiogheny River Gorge, so screenshots travel better than streaming pages.

Fuel is one of your biggest variables, but it's manageable. Pennsylvania gas prices typically run in the mid $3 range per gallon, with diesel slightly higher. Expect a Class C motorhome to get 8 to 12 miles per gallon (MPG), a Class B campervan 16 to 20 MPG, and a truck-towed travel trailer 10 to 14 MPG. A 200-mile loop from Allison to Ohiopyle, Fallingwater, and back will cost roughly $60 to $90 in fuel for a Class C. Pro tip: fill up in Uniontown or along Route 51 before heading into the mountains; prices climb noticeably at the small stations near Ohiopyle and Mill Run, and the closest large truck-friendly stops are in Connellsville.

pennsylvaniastateparks.reserveamerica.com/camping/ohiopyle-state-park/r/campgroundDetails.doWhat are driving conditions like around Allison, PA?
Driving here is straightforward with a little mountain awareness. Allison sits in the rolling foothills of the Laurel Highlands, so expect winding two-lane roads like Route 40 (the National Road) and Route 381 with grades climbing toward Ohiopyle and Chalk Hill. Summer thunderstorms and winter snow squalls can pop up fast in the mountains. Pro tip: download offline maps before you go, cell coverage drops in the Yough Gorge and around Fort Necessity. Take it slow on descents and use lower gears to save the brakes.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Allison,PennsylvaniaHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and secure. You pay through the RVezy platform with a credit or debit card at the time of booking, no cash handoffs, no awkward host conversations. A refundable security deposit is held separately before the trip starts (typically a few hundred to a few thousand dollars depending on the rig and protection level you choose) and released after the host confirms the RV came back in good shape. Keeping the deposit safe is easy: do the pre-trip walkthrough with the host, take time-stamped photos at pickup and drop-off, return the RV on time with the agreed fuel level, and empty the tanks if your agreement requires it. Pro tip: clarify the dump-and-clean policy at pickup so there are no surprises.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksAre there family-friendly road trip ideas from Allison, PA?
Plenty. A classic family RV trip Allison, PA itinerary starts with two nights at Kentuck Campground for Ohiopyle's natural waterslides, Cucumber Falls, and easy biking on the Great Allegheny Passage. Next, head about 30 minutes to Fallingwater and Kentuck Knob for two of Frank Lloyd Wright's masterpieces, then loop to Fort Necessity National Battlefield for a slice of George Washington history. Add a day at Idlewild and SoakZone in Ligonier (about 50 minutes north) for kid-friendly rides, or Living Treasures Wild Animal Park near Donegal. Pro tip: pack water shoes; the natural waterslides on Meadow Run at Ohiopyle are the single most-loved free activity in the Laurel Highlands, and they're only about 35 miles from Allison.
