Campgrounds and RV parks near Edgewood, PA

Edgewood is a small borough in Allegheny County, roughly seven miles east of downtown Pittsburgh. RV renters use it as a base for exploring the city, the Monongahela and Youghiogheny river valleys, and the Laurel Highlands to the southeast. There are no campgrounds inside the borough itself, so travelers stage at private parks in the surrounding counties and drive in for day trips. The closest options sit along the Route 30, I-70, and I-76 (Pennsylvania Turnpike) corridors east and south of the city. Pittsburgh experiences a humid continental climate, marked by strong seasonal changes. Summers are warm, while winters are cold. The area receives moderate precipitation, which is spread fairly evenly throughout the year, though summer is typically the wettest season. Nearby private campgrounds include Wallace Trailer Sales and Court, Mountain Top Campground, Madison/Pittsburgh SE KOA Journey, Fox Den Acres Campgrounds, and Smith Grove Camp Grounds. Most offer full or partial hookups suitable for Class C and travel-trailer rentals, with the KOA property providing the most predictable amenity set for first-time renters.

Private parks in the Pittsburgh area take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone, and Madison/Pittsburgh SE KOA Journey uses the national KOA reservation system. For summer weekends and holidays, booking four to eight weeks ahead is standard; pull-through sites that fit larger Class A and Class C rentals sell out first. For state parks in the Laurel Highlands such as Ohiopyle and Laurel Hill, campsites are reserved through the Pennsylvania State Parks system, which opens reservations 11 months in advance to noon of the day of arrival. When reserving, confirm rig-length limits, hookup type (30 vs 50 amp), and whether the site is back-in or pull-through. Ask about low-clearance approaches if the RV is over eleven feet tall.
