Campgrounds and RV parks near Etna, PA

Etna is a small borough on Pine Creek in Allegheny County, immediately northeast of Pittsburgh and part of the Shaler Area suburbs. Its location makes it a practical base for RV travelers who want quick access to downtown Pittsburgh, the Allegheny River corridor, and the wooded ridges of western Pennsylvania. There are no campgrounds inside Etna itself, so RV renters typically stay at private parks in the surrounding Allegheny and Butler county communities and drive in. The closest options include Mountain Top Campground, Wallace Trailer Sales and Court, and Indian Brave Campgrounds, with Buttercup Woodlands Campground and Smith Grove Camp Grounds sitting a bit farther out. These are privately operated parks with varying mixes of RV hookups, tent sites, and seasonal sites. For state-run camping, the closest Pennsylvania state parks with campgrounds are farther south and east in the Laurel Highlands, including Ohiopyle and Laurel Hill. Those parks are worth the drive for hiking, waterfalls, and river recreation, but most RV renters based near Etna will stay in the private-park ring around the city.

For Pennsylvania state parks and state forests, reservations are handled through the state's official reservation portal or by calling 888-PA-PARKS. Most campsites can be reserved up to 11 months in advance, down to noon on the day of arrival, with unreserved sites available first-come, first-served. Reservations open at noon Eastern Time on the release date. From Memorial Day through Labor Day the maximum stay is 14 consecutive nights, and 21 nights in the off-season. Private campgrounds around Etna, including Mountain Top Campground, Indian Brave Campgrounds, Buttercup Woodlands Campground, and Smith Grove Camp Grounds, are booked directly with each park. For summer weekends and the October foliage window, reserve well ahead; cancellations at the popular state parks in the Laurel Highlands are often the only way in on short notice.
