Camping near Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania
Jefferson Hills is a borough in Allegheny County, south of Pittsburgh, and sits within easy driving range of a mix of private RV parks that serve the greater Pittsburgh metro. The area works well as a base for city sightseeing and for trips into the Laurel Highlands to the southeast.
Most overnight options within an hour of Jefferson Hills are private, full-hookup parks rather than state-park campgrounds. Wallace Trailer Sales and Court is the closest listed option, and Madison/Pittsburgh SE KOA Journey and Washington/Pittsburgh SW KOA Journey bracket the city with reservable RV sites along the I-70 and I-79 corridors. Fox Den Acres Campgrounds and Firehouse RV Campgrounds round out the nearby choices for travelers who want established amenities.
For state-park camping, Pennsylvania's Department of Conservation and Natural Resources runs a separate reservation system that opens well in advance, so trips combining a Pittsburgh-area private park with a state park in the Laurel Highlands are common.
Things to do near Jefferson Hills
The main draw is Pittsburgh itself. From a base at Madison/Pittsburgh SE KOA Journey, the city is roughly 45 minutes away, putting downtown, pro sports, museums, and amusement parks within an easy day trip.
Outdoor options open up quickly to the southeast. The rolling Laurel Highlands offer hiking, mountain biking, and river recreation, and Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater is a common add-on for a longer stay. Wineries and golf courses are scattered through Westmoreland and Washington counties.
On-site amenities vary by park. Some private campgrounds in the area include swimming pools open from Memorial Day weekend through early fall, catch-and-release fishing ponds, and family games like horseshoes and basketball.

Dan’s camper was perfect for our weekend camping trip. It was clean, organized, and fit our family of 4 with plenty of room. Dan was very helpful at pick up and drop off getting everything hooked up and offloaded.

How to book campgrounds near Jefferson Hills
Private RV parks in the area, including the two nearby KOA Journey locations, are booked directly through the campground or its brand website. Confirm holiday-weekend and long-weekend dates as early as possible, since these fill first at Pittsburgh-area parks.
For Pennsylvania state parks in the broader region, reservations open 11 months in advance to noon of the arrival date, released at 12:00 PM Eastern Time. Bookings are made through the Pennsylvania State Parks and Forests reservation website or by calling 888-PA-PARKS, Monday through Saturday.
A two-night minimum applies to weekend reservations in summer at state parks, with a 14-night stay maximum. Reservations made at the 11-month window cannot be moved or cancelled for 22 days after booking.
What to expect on the ground
Most nearby options are private RV parks geared to travelers rather than backcountry campers. Expect pull-through sites with full hookups, on-site laundry, and Wi-Fi of varying quality. Sites at Madison/Pittsburgh SE KOA Journey, for example, are designed for convenience off I-70, with long pull-through RV sites and after-hours check-in.
Cell coverage in the Pittsburgh metro is generally strong, and cable TV is not always provided, though over-the-air channels can usually be pulled in with a camper antenna. Restrooms and shower houses at the larger parks are typically modern.
Terrain around Jefferson Hills is rolling rather than flat, and roads into some rural parks include tight turns. Big-rig drivers should confirm site length and approach directions with the campground before arrival.
