Campgrounds near Morrisville, Pennsylvania
Morrisville sits in Franklin Township, Greene County, in the southwestern corner of Pennsylvania, close to the West Virginia line and within easy reach of I-79 and the National Road (U.S. 40) corridor. The surrounding landscape is rolling Appalachian foothills, hardwood forest, and small farm valleys, which shapes what RV travelers find at nearby campgrounds: wooded sites, moderate grades on access roads, and a mix of private parks and one state park.
Options close to Morrisville range from small private grounds to a state-park campground. Firehouse RV Campgrounds and Indian Meadows Campground offer nearby private stays, while the Washington / Pittsburgh SW KOA Journey sits about 28 miles south of Pittsburgh off I-79 and works well as a stopover. Ryerson Station State Park adds a public-land option with a 35-site tent and trailer campground managed by the Pennsylvania DCNR.
Hotel RV West Alexander rounds out the list for travelers moving between Pennsylvania and West Virginia along the I-70 corridor. Together, these grounds cover most trip styles, from one-night highway stopovers to longer base camps for exploring Greene and Washington counties.
Things to do near Morrisville
Ryerson Station State Park is the main outdoor draw close to Morrisville, covering roughly 1,164 acres with a swimming pool, hiking trails, picnicking, and small-stream fishing. The park lost its former Duke Lake to coal-mining subsidence, so recreation now centers on the trails, the pool, and the surrounding woods rather than lake boating. Three hiking trails begin directly from the campground area.
Further afield, the Washington / Pittsburgh SW KOA Journey sits within reach of regional attractions. Rural highways in the surrounding countryside pass more than 20 covered bridges and lead to antique stores and flea markets. Fallingwater, the Frank Lloyd Wright house, the Meadowcroft Museum of Rural Life, and The Meadows Racetrack and Casino are all within day-trip distance, and central Pittsburgh is roughly an hour north.

Peak RV season in Greene County runs from late spring through mid-fall. Summer brings warm, humid days and frequent afternoon thunderstorms, and it is the busiest booking window for private parks along I-79. Weekends around Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day fill first, so reservations well ahead are advisable at the KOA and nearby private grounds.
Spring and fall are quieter and often the best trade-off between comfortable temperatures and site availability. Fall foliage in the Appalachian foothills typically peaks in mid to late October, and shoulder-season nights turn cold quickly. Travelers should confirm hookup availability, because some water services are shut off before the last frost.
Winter access is limited at most private parks. The Washington / Pittsburgh SW KOA Journey operates on a seasonal calendar that runs roughly mid-March through early December. Ryerson Station State Park is unusual for the region in that its campground is open year round, though modern restrooms and full-hookup service remain available while the pool and program schedule shut down for the cold months.
How to book campgrounds near Morrisville
Ryerson Station State Park uses the Pennsylvania State Parks reservation system run by DCNR, which accepts bookings up to eleven months in advance and requires reservations at least three days ahead of arrival. Summer weekends and holiday windows are the first to sell out, so travelers targeting those dates should book as soon as their window opens. Reservations can be made online or by calling 888-PA-PARKS.
Private parks handle reservations directly. The Washington / Pittsburgh SW KOA Journey takes bookings through the KOA website or by phone, with a seven-day cancellation notice required for RV and tent sites and fourteen days for cabins and other lodging. Firehouse RV Campgrounds, Indian Meadows Campground, and Hotel RV West Alexander typically take reservations by phone; calling ahead is the most reliable approach for larger rigs.
What to expect on the ground
Roads into Greene County campgrounds are rural and hilly. Travelers should have good tires and brakes because the terrain is mountainous, and some approaches involve narrow, winding sections. The access route to Ryerson Station uses McNay Ridge Road, and the park itself advises that Class A motorhomes and wider vehicles use extreme caution on that stretch. Sites at the state park accommodate RVs up to about 30 feet.
Site quality varies at the KOA. Reviewers note that some pads are unlevel, so leveling blocks are useful, and the entrance road climbs a steep hill. Expect wooded, partly shaded sites at the KOA, more open pads at the private parks, and quiet forest surroundings at Ryerson Station.
Cell service is patchy in the hollows around Morrisville, with Verizon coverage particularly weak near Ryerson Station. Firewood policies favor local sourcing to limit pest spread.
