Campgrounds and RV parks near Arthurtown, SC

Arthurtown sits inside the Columbia metro area in South Carolina's Sandhills region, giving RV travelers quick access to state park camping, private RV resorts, and the state's only national park. The area is easily reached from Interstates 77, 20, and 26, which keeps arrival and departure days short even for larger rigs. The closest state park option is Sesquicentennial State Park, a large Sandhills-region park about 12 miles from downtown Columbia. Private options include Big Rig Friendly RV Resort, Barnyard RV Park, Woodsmoke Campground, and Broad River Campground, which together cover full-hookup pull-throughs and more traditional wooded sites. Most RV travelers stage from these campgrounds to reach South Carolina's only national park, Congaree, roughly a half-hour south. Congaree itself has no drive-in RV campgrounds, so those driving an RV or towing a trailer look to nearby state parks and private campgrounds, which is where the Arthurtown-area options fit in.

State park sites at Sesquicentennial are booked through the South Carolina State Parks reservation system, typically with a two-night minimum on weekends. Booking windows open several months out, and weekends in spring and fall fill first. Congaree's frontcountry sites at Longleaf and Bluff are handled through Recreation.gov and are walk-in tent sites, not usable for RVs. Frontcountry reservations typically open several months in advance; for peak season visits, book as early as possible. Private campgrounds around Arthurtown, including Big Rig Friendly RV Resort, Barnyard RV Park, Woodsmoke Campground, and Broad River Campground, take reservations directly through their own websites or phone lines. For firefly week and major University of South Carolina home football weekends, reserve as far ahead as the operator allows.
