Campgrounds near Baxter Village
Baxter Village is a planned community in Fort Mill, South Carolina, in northern York County just south of the North Carolina line and the Charlotte metro area. RV travelers use it as a base for Lake Wylie recreation, Carowinds theme park, and quick access to uptown Charlotte via I-77.
The closest full-service RV campground is the Charlotte / Fort Mill KOA Journey, which sits off Gold Hill Road in Fort Mill. Carowinds Camp Wilderness Resort is a full-service RV campground located adjacent to the Carowinds amusement and water park complex, with paved pull-through sites and 30-amp and 50-amp electrical service alongside water and sewer connections. Crown Cove RV Park offers another nearby option on the Lake Wylie side.
For lakeside camping run by the county, York County's Ebenezer Park is a 26-acre park located north of Rock Hill on the shores of Lake Wylie, offering day-use recreation and overnight stays in 79 RV campsites or 5 tent campsites. Allison Creek Park adds a larger, quieter alternative on the western shore.
Things to do near Baxter Village
Lake Wylie is the dominant outdoor draw. York County's Allison Creek Park is a 160-acre park on the shores of Lake Wylie, offering four boat ramps, a kayak/canoe launch, a fishing dock, three miles of trails, a playground, and picnic shelters. Ebenezer Park features campsites for overnight stays, three boat ramps, a semicircular fishing pier, a designated swimming area, and a kayak/canoe launch, plus a beach volleyball court, pickleball court, and walking trails.
Families staying at Carowinds Camp Wilderness Resort get direct access to the theme park next door, with ticket packages and shuttle service typical of the official resort. On-property recreation at private parks in the area includes pools and lawn games.
Beyond the water and the parks, Baxter Village itself has a walkable town square, and Charlotte's uptown attractions, breweries, and pro sports venues sit roughly 20 miles north via I-77.

The Fort Mill and Lake Wylie area works well as a shoulder-season destination. Spring and fall bring the most comfortable RV weather, with mild days, cool nights, and manageable humidity. April through May and late September through October are the strongest windows for booking without extreme heat.
Summer is peak family season because Carowinds is in full swing and Lake Wylie draws swimmers and boaters, but afternoons are hot and humid with frequent thunderstorms. Ebenezer Park includes a seasonal concession stand open from Memorial Day through Labor Day, which lines up with the busiest camping weeks. Reserve early for holiday weekends.
Winter is the quietest stretch. Ebenezer Park is open year-round, and Allison Creek Park is open year-round as well. Carowinds itself operates on a limited schedule outside the main season. Overnight lows can dip below freezing on cold snaps, so RVers should be ready to manage water lines and tanks.

This was our second time renting from Matt and Shannon, and once again everything was smooth from start to finish. Their RV made our weekend at the Ebony Horsemen Rodeo comfortable and stress-free. Can't wait to book with them again for next year's event!

Here’s a polished rewrite of your review: --- Matt was an outstanding host. He was flexible when I needed to adjust both the drop-off location and the rental dates for the RV. He personally met me to hand over the RV, walked me through how to use the equipment, and made sure I felt comfortable. Throughout the process, he was attentive and responsive to my concerns, which made the experience smooth and enjoyable.

How to book campsites
York County operates both Ebenezer Park and Allison Creek Park. The park is open year-round, and camping reservations can be made 13 months in advance. Bookings run through the county's online portal or by phone with the park office. Ebenezer Park is not a long-term campground, and the maximum length of stay is 14 nights on a campsite. The same 14-night cap applies at Allison Creek Park.
Carowinds Camp Wilderness Resort books directly through the Carowinds resort website, with ticket-and-stay packages available. The Charlotte / Fort Mill KOA Journey books through the KOA site or app. Crown Cove RV Park handles reservations directly with the operator.
Weekends near Carowinds openings, holidays, and summer lake weekends fill first. Book several months out for peak dates.
What to expect on site
Expect paved or gravel pads, full hookups at the main RV parks, and Piedmont rolling terrain under pine and hardwood cover. Ebenezer Park has 79 full hook-up RV campsites, each equipped with water, sewer, electric at 50/30/20 amp, a fire ring with a grill, and a picnic table. Allison Creek Park has 33 full hook-up RV campsites and 16 primitive tent sites, with RV sites paved and equipped with water, sewer, electric at 50/30/20 amp, a fire ring with a grill, and a picnic table.
Big rigs are welcome at the private parks. County parks assign specific sites, and RV campers may only park their vehicles, trailers, and golf carts on the concrete pad at their assigned campsite, not on the grass.
Cell coverage is generally strong across the area. Expect summer thunderstorms, active wildlife around lake shorelines, and busy weekend boat ramps.
