Campgrounds and RV parks near Brookdale, SC

Lake Marion drives most of the recreation in the area. The lake, together with Lake Moultrie, gave rise to America's inland striped bass fishery, and the two lakes are now also known for large catfish. Boating, kayaking, and shoreline fishing are available directly from Santee State Park, and pontoon boat tours run into the lake's flooded cypress headwaters from the park's marina. Families traveling with kids will find farm-based attractions a short drive away. Outside Inn Campground doubles as a working farm with pastured animals guests can meet, and River Bottom Farms Family Campground runs weekend activities including hayrides, a pool, and a jumping pillow. Congaree National Park, home to old-growth bottomland hardwood forest and boardwalk trails, is roughly an hour north and makes a reasonable day trip from any of the campgrounds in this region.

The Brookdale area has a humid subtropical climate with hot, muggy summers and short, mild winters. Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel and see the strongest booking pressure at Santee State Park, when sites on the water fill first on weekends. Wildflowers and mild temperatures make March through May a popular window before summer heat and humidity build. Summer camping is popular for lake access but brings heat, humidity, and afternoon thunderstorms that can arrive quickly. Late summer is the wettest stretch of the year in the Midlands. Peak hurricane season in the Atlantic runs from August through October, and while Brookdale sits well inland, remnants of tropical systems can still bring heavy rain and gusty wind. Campgrounds in this area generally operate year-round, including both campgrounds at Santee State Park and the private parks. Travelers should still confirm any temporary closures for maintenance, since park agencies occasionally close individual loops for repaving or utility work, most often outside the peak spring and fall seasons.

State-park sites at Santee are set up for RVs of most sizes. Each site has packed sand, individual water and electrical hookups, and a picnic table, with restrooms and hot showers nearby, and many sites accommodate RVs up to 40 feet. At Cypress View, most sites are level with gravel surfaces, which makes parking a larger rig easier than at Lakeshore, and a dump station is available on site. Private parks trend smaller and more amenity-focused. Outside Inn Campground sits on 55 wooded acres with 25 full hook-up RV sites, a bathhouse with showers and laundry, Wi-Fi, walking trails, and pasture animals including a Highland cow, goats, sheep, pigs, rabbits, and chickens. River Bottom Farms Family Campground offers 70 large sites with pull-through and full hook-up options and 20-, 30-, and 50-amp service, plus four stocked ponds, a pool, game room, playground, and nature trails.
