Campgrounds and RV parks near Clio, SC

Water activities anchor most trips. At Cheraw State Park, campers can fish, paddle, and rent kayaks and canoes to explore the lake, with a lakeside boardwalk and cypress wetlands nearby. Little Pee Dee State Park centers on 54-acre Lake Norton, where anglers try for bream, bass and catfish, and canoe and kayak rentals are available for paddling the still water. On land, Cheraw offers hiking and equestrian trails and an 18-hole championship golf course built into the park. Little Pee Dee has two official trails, the Beaver Pond Trail and the Longleaf Pine Trail, plus a playground and access to a Carolina Bay, a shallow geological depression unique to the Atlantic Coastal Plain. Off-park, I-95 puts Myrtle Beach roughly an hour east for a beach day, and the historic town of Cheraw is a short drive west.

Spring and fall are the sweet spots for RV camping in this part of South Carolina. Daytime highs sit in the comfortable 70s to low 80s Fahrenheit, humidity is moderate, and biting insects are less aggressive. Wildflowers and cypress leaf-out draw campers in April and May, and cooler nights arrive by mid-October. Summer brings hot, humid days with regular afternoon thunderstorms. August is the wettest month, when rain falls for over 18 days and accumulates nearly four inches in the Bennettsville area. Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November, with peak activity in August and September, so RV renters should watch tropical forecasts and be ready to adjust plans. Both Cheraw State Park and Little Pee Dee State Park stay open for camping year-round. Winter days are cool rather than cold, and freezes are common overnight. The Cheraw State Park golf course is scheduled to close for renovation from March 1 through October 1, 2026, so golf-focused trips should confirm status before booking.

Cheraw State Park has 17 developed sites with individual water and electrical hookups on packed gravel pads, accommodating RVs up to 40 feet. Sites 4 and 5 offer full hookups including sewer, pull-through sites accommodate RVs up to 40 feet, while back-in sites accommodate RVs up to 34 feet. Six sites are waterfront on Lake Juniper, and a dump station is available for RVs. Little Pee Dee State Park has 11 full-service sites with water, electricity, and septic, 18 sites with water and electrical hookups, and 18 tent sites with individual water, plus a boat ramp, playground, camp store, and dump station. The park is remote, about 15 miles from I-95 with no nearby stores, so stocking up before arrival is smart. Private options along I-95 near Dillon focus on full-hookup pull-through sites, big-rig access, and easy highway on-and-off, which suits overnight travelers heading to or from the coast.
