Lake Murray sits just north of Edmund and is the main outdoor draw, with public boat ramps, swimming beaches, and fishing for largemouth and striped bass. Dreher Island State Park, on the lake, offers hiking trails, a fishing pier, and a lakeside campground for day visits. Congaree National Park lies about forty-five minutes east and protects the largest intact expanse of old-growth bottomland hardwood forest in the southeastern United States, with a boardwalk loop suitable for kids. River Bottom Farms Family Campground and Barnyard RV Park sit close to farm-country roads that suit easy cycling and driving loops.

The Midlands has a humid subtropical climate, and spring and fall are the most comfortable stretches for RV travel. March through May brings warming days, blooming dogwoods and azaleas, and manageable humidity, while September through November delivers cooler nights and lighter rainfall, with November typically the driest month of the year in the Lexington area. Summer is hot and sticky. July highs at Columbia Metro Airport average around 93 degrees Fahrenheit with lows near 72, and rainfall peaks in the warmer months when afternoon thunderstorms are common. Shaded, full-hookup sites with reliable power for air conditioning become important. Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November, with the greatest risk from August through October; storms occasionally track inland and bring heavy rain and wind to the Midlands. Winter is mild by North American standards but not warm. Freezing nights occur, measurable snow is rare, and many private parks stay open year-round, making Edmund a workable stop for snowbirds moving between the Northeast and Florida.

Parks around Edmund tend to be flat, wooded, and quiet, with a mix of pull-through and back-in sites. Full hookups with 30 and 50 amp service are common at the larger private parks, and shade is generally good thanks to the pine and hardwood cover typical of the Sandhills. Cell coverage on major carriers is reliable across the Lexington and West Columbia corridor. Biting insects, especially mosquitoes and gnats, are active from late spring through early fall, so screens and repellent are worth packing. SC Forest Health authorities advise firewood should be obtained and used locally to prevent spreading pests in the state, and all firewood brought into South Carolina State Parks must be from within the state and from less than 50 miles away. Plan to buy wood near your campground rather than transport it from home.
