Campgrounds and RV parks near Elloree, SC

Lake Marion drives most of the recreation. Anglers target catfish, striped bass, largemouth bass, crappie, and bream from shorelines, piers, and boats launched at Santee State Park's two boat ramps or at the KOA's on-site ramp. Pontoon tours run out of the state park's marina and store into the flooded cypress forest at the lake's headwaters. On land, Santee State Park has hiking and biking trails, a fishing pier, self-serve kayak rentals, and a park store. The Santee National Wildlife Refuge, on the north shore, protects over 15,000 acres across four units and is a strong birding destination, with the annual Santee Birding and Nature Festival held each April. A 7.5-mile auto tour route through the Cuddo Unit is open year round. Congaree National Park is about an hour's drive northwest.

Spring and fall are the strongest windows for RV travel to Elloree. March through May brings mild days, active fishing, spring bird migration, and the April birding festival at Santee National Wildlife Refuge. Late September through November delivers cooler nights, fewer bugs, and generally lower humidity, though Atlantic hurricane season officially runs through November and occasional tropical systems can affect the region. Summer is hot and humid, with average highs in the upper 80s to low 90s and afternoon thunderstorms common. Insect activity peaks, and shaded, lakeside sites at Cypress View - Santee State Park and Lakeshore - Santee State Park book out well in advance for weekends and holidays. Portions of the wildlife refuge close from November 1 through March 1 to protect wintering waterfowl. Winters are mild by North American standards but can turn cold and wet. Santee State Park campgrounds remain open year round, and this is the quietest season for site availability. Travellers should check park alerts before booking, since occasional roadwork and campground repaving is scheduled inside the park.

Sites at Cypress View - Santee State Park sit on paved interior roads with gravel or packed sand pads, are mostly level, and are geared toward RVs with many pull-throughs and lake views. Sites at Lakeshore - Santee State Park are packed sand on unpaved roads that can be rough; the layout is more wooded and spread out, with 10 tent-only sites in the northeastern section on 30-amp electric. Both campgrounds have hot showers, flush toilets, a dump station, water and electric hookups, and picnic tables and fire rings at each site. Cell coverage in the area is generally adequate, though Wi-Fi at the state park is concentrated near the office and store rather than at individual sites. The KOA offers Wi-Fi throughout, a pool, mini-golf, laundry, a dog park, and a camp store. Pets are welcome in most outdoor areas on a leash no longer than six feet.
