Campgrounds and RV parks near Fairfax, SC

The area leans rural and outdoor. Barnwell State Park is best known for fishing, with a pair of ponds that hold a good population of crappie, bream and bass, plus non-motorized boat rentals and a short nature trail. The 1.5 mile Dogwood Interpretive Trail works well for families with younger kids. Broxton Bridge Plantation adds a different flavor. The facility features a Helice range, a 15-station sporting clays course, and expert wing-shooting lessons, and guests can enjoy fishing and trail riding. With over 60 miles of scenic trails, riders can explore lush pine forests, historic battlefields, and riverfront paths, and horse-friendly facilities make it a common destination for equestrian weekends. Savannah River RV Park offers river access for anglers and paddlers heading toward the Georgia line.

Spring and fall are the strongest windows for RV travel in this part of South Carolina. Daytime highs sit in a comfortable range, humidity is manageable, and the biting-insect load is lower than in midsummer. Dogwoods and wildflowers bloom through March and April, and fall brings cooler nights well suited to campfires. Summer is hot and humid, with frequent afternoon thunderstorms and a real mosquito presence along the Salkehatchie and Savannah River bottoms. July averages a high near 91°F and a low of about 73°F, so shade, reliable power for air conditioning, and early-morning activity times matter. Atlantic hurricane season officially runs from June through November, with peak activity typically in September, and RV travelers should monitor National Hurricane Center advisories when storms approach the Southeast coast. Winter is mild by North American standards, with occasional freezes. Broxton Bridge Plantation is open all year, and Barnwell State Park operates through the winter as well, making the area a viable cool-weather stop for snowbird routes between the Midwest and Florida.

Expect rural, quiet settings with limited cell coverage in some spots. According to campers on TheDyrt.com, there is no coverage for AT&T, no coverage for T-Mobile, and no coverage for Verizon at Broxton Bridge Plantation, so travelers relying on mobile data should plan accordingly. At Barnwell State Park, each campsite has packed gravel, individual water and electrical hookups (20 and 30 amp) and a picnic table, some sites can accommodate RVs up to 36 ft and others up to 28 ft, and eight full hookup sites are available with 50-amp service. Sites are comprised of packed gravel and provide easy access to restrooms, hot showers, and a dump station. At Broxton Bridge Campgrounds, sites are spacious and pull-through friendly. With 102 spacious sites, including options for primitive camping, it is ideal for RVs and horse trailers, and each site is designed with pull-thru convenience. Pets are generally welcome on leash across the area's campgrounds.
