Campgrounds and RV parks near Hampton, SC

Trail riding is the signature activity in this part of South Carolina. Broxton Bridge Plantation maintains over 60 miles of trails across 6,000 acres through pine woods, hardwood bottoms, and cypress swamp, and Lakeview Plantation offers more than 60 miles of trails across 2,600 private acres. Both accept horse trailers and offer corrals or panels at the campsite. Shooting sports, guided deer and wild boar hunts, and fishing on the Salkehatchie River are also available at Broxton Bridge, which operates a 15-station sporting clays course and a Helice range. Anglers can fish for bass, bream, and catfish on Lake Warren, and history-minded visitors can time a spring trip to the annual reenactment of the Battle of Broxton Bridge, held in February. For a day trip, Hunting Island State Park, Beaufort, and historic Yemassee are all within roughly an hour's drive.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable seasons for RV travel here. From mid-March through May, daytime highs climb from the mid-60s into the low-80s Fahrenheit, biting insects are still manageable, and the trails at Broxton Bridge Plantation and Lakeview Plantation are in peak condition. Spring is also when the plantation properties host trail rides and reenactment events, so weekends fill earlier than in shoulder months. Summers in Hampton are hot and oppressive. Afternoon highs sit near 90 Fahrenheit from June through August, thunderstorms are frequent, and mosquitoes and yellow flies are active in the woods and along the Salkehatchie River. Late-summer rainfall is heavy, and the Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November. Winter is short and mild by North American standards. Freezes occur but daytime highs commonly reach the upper 50s to low 60s Fahrenheit, which supports year-round riding and hunting seasons. Some private campgrounds run on reduced staffing in the deep off-season.

Campgrounds near Hampton are rural. Cell coverage is patchy on the plantation properties, sites are large and often shaded by pines, and the nearest full-service grocery may be a fifteen-minute drive. Broxton Bridge Plantation offers full hookup, pull-through sites sized for large RVs and horse trailers with 30 and 50 amp service, a heated bathhouse, laundromat, river access, and fire rings. The Oaks at Point South, operated by Thousand Trails, accommodates big rigs with full hookups under a canopy of live oaks draped with Spanish moss, and the neighbouring Point South KOA is a travel-stop style property with paved interior roads, a pool, and quick highway access. Both suit families making a one- or two-night stop between Florida and points north. Bring insect repellent from late spring through early fall, plan for humidity, and confirm fire restrictions with the campground office before arrival, since burn bans can be issued during dry stretches.
