Water and paddling top most itineraries. Lee State Park offers fishing and paddling along the Lynches River, plus an artesian pond stocked with catfish and a seasonal swim beach open Memorial Day through Labor Day. Cheraw State Park centers on Lake Juniper, a 360-acre CCC-built lake with a boat ramp, seasonal canoe and kayak rentals, and an 18-hole championship golf course. Horse owners head to H Cooper Black Jr Memorial Recreational Area, which has stables, corrals, a show ring, and miles of equestrian trails and sand roads that connect into Sand Hills State Forest. Off-park draws include Darlington Raceway and its stock car museum, McLeod Farms in McBee for seasonal pick-your-own fruit, and Kalmia Gardens in Hartsville. Standing Pines and The Farm Campground both sit within short drives of these attractions.
