Campgrounds near Manning, South Carolina
Manning sits in Clarendon County in central South Carolina, roughly 15 minutes north of Lake Marion, the state's largest lake. The area is part of Santee Cooper Country, a network of two connected reservoirs, Lake Marion and Lake Moultrie, that together cover more than 170,000 acres and are known nationally for striped bass and trophy catfish fishing.
RV travelers use Manning as a base for lakefront camping without paying coastal-resort prices. Taw Caw Campground and Marina and Palmetto Shores RV Resort sit on the north and south shores of Lake Marion, while Santee / Santee Lakes KOA Journey, Rocks Pond Campground and Marina, and Bells Marina & Resort are clustered along the south and east shores within a short drive of Interstate 95.
The closest state-run option is Santee State Park, on the south shore of Lake Marion off SC 6, just west of the town of Santee and I-95. The park offers two campgrounds along with cabins, boat ramps, hiking trails, and a marina.
Things to do around Manning
Fishing is the main draw. Lake Marion supports largemouth bass, striped bass, channel catfish, crappie, bream, and white perch, and Taw Caw Campground and Marina, Rocks Pond Campground and Marina, and Bells Marina & Resort all have on-site marinas with boat access.
Off the water, Santee State Park runs pontoon boat tours through the flooded cypress forest at the lake's swampy headwaters. Short nature trails cross wooded forest, wild azaleas, and limestone sinkholes, and there is a swim area near the Cypress View Campground. Alligators inhabit shallow, swampy sections, so swimming is at your own risk.
The Santee area is also known for its golf courses, and downtown Manning offers restaurants, groceries, and a small-town main street for restock runs.

Spring and fall are the best RV windows around Manning. Daytime highs sit in the 70s Fahrenheit, humidity is manageable, wildflowers bloom along Santee State Park's nature trails, and the striped bass and crappie bites peak. Weekends between March and May book out at private lake campgrounds well in advance.
Summer is hot and humid, with afternoon thunderstorms nearly daily and peak lake traffic. Families still flock in for swimming and boating, and sites at Palmetto Shores RV Resort, Santee / Santee Lakes KOA Journey, and Santee State Park's Lakeshore and Cypress View campgrounds fill weeks ahead for holiday weekends. Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November, with the highest storm risk in August and September; inland Clarendon County is well shielded from surge but can see heavy rain and wind bands from landfalling systems.
Winters are mild by North American standards, with highs typically in the mid-50s Fahrenheit. Many private campgrounds stay open year-round, and Santee State Park camping operates through the cooler months. Catfish anglers favor this season.
How to book campgrounds near Manning
Santee State Park reservations are handled through the South Carolina State Parks system online or by calling 1-866-345-PARK. Campsites can be booked up to 13 months in advance, and reservations requested less than one day before check-in must be made directly through the park. A two-night minimum typically applies. Both the 108-site Lakeshore Campground and the 50-site Cypress View Campground offer water and electric hookups on packed-sand sites, and many sites accommodate RVs up to 40 feet.
Private lakefront properties, including Taw Caw Campground and Marina, Palmetto Shores RV Resort, Santee / Santee Lakes KOA Journey, Rocks Pond Campground and Marina, and Bells Marina & Resort, are booked directly through each campground's website or phone line. KOA locations also accept bookings through the KOA app and website.
What to expect on the ground
Sites near Manning are generally level and shaded by tall pines and hardwoods. State park sites are packed sand with water and electric only, no sewer hookups; private resorts on Lake Marion typically offer full hookups, laundry, and boat slips. Bathhouses at Santee State Park have hot showers and a dump station is available in the park.
Expect gnats, mosquitoes, and biting flies from late spring through early fall; bring screens and repellent. Alligators, raccoons, and deer are common around the lake, so food should be secured and coolers should not be left unattended on picnic tables.
Cell service is reliable in Manning and near I-95 but can be spotty in parts of Santee State Park. Firewood brought into South Carolina State Parks must be sourced from within the state and from less than 50 miles away to prevent pest spread.

Travel trailers typically run $90 to $160 per night, Class C motorhomes $150 to $250, and larger Class A rigs $200 to $350. Good news: your regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Manning, SC. South Carolina does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special RV endorsement for the motorhomes and trailers available on RVezy, even for larger Class A rigs. You'll just need to be 25 or older and upload a photo of your license through the RVezy platform, where ID confirmation happens automatically. Visiting from outside the US? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) alongside your home-country license. Most first-time renters in Clarendon County are pleasantly surprised by how quick the verification step is, often approved within hours so you can lock in your dates.

help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat is the cancellation policy if my Manning RV trip plans change?
Booking your RV rental in Manning, SC is low-risk because RVezy sets a clear, platform-wide cancellation policy rather than leaving it up to individual hosts. Refund eligibility depends on how far in advance you cancel relative to your trip start date, with more flexibility the earlier you cancel. If a host ever needs to cancel on you, RVezy will help you find a comparable replacement RV or issue a refund or travel credit. Pro tip: book earlier rather than later for popular Lake Marion fishing weekends. You get the best selection, and an early cancellation window gives you breathing room if plans shift.

Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental in Manning is easy to find: just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you'll see hosts who welcome dogs (and sometimes cats) in their rigs. Manning is a dream destination for dog owners because Lake Marion's shoreline parks allow leashed pets, and Santee State Park (15 minutes south) has pet-friendly campsites and walking trails along the lake. Most hosts charge a small pet fee ($25 to $75) to cover extra cleaning. Pro tip: message the host before booking to mention your dog's size and breed. It builds trust and many hosts will share their favorite local dog-friendly spots, like the open fields at Manning's Palmetto Park.
southcarolinaparks.com/santeeCan the RV be delivered to my campsite in Manning?
Yes, RV delivery in Manning is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-timers who don't want to tow or drive a big rig. Many local hosts will deliver your motorhome rental in Manning directly to Santee State Park, Taw Caw Creek Park, or even a private property near Lake Marion, then set up the awning, connect water and power, and walk you through every system. Just filter by Delivery on RVezy to see hosts offering this service and the fee (usually based on mileage from Manning). Pro tip: delivery is a game-changer if you're flying into Columbia Metropolitan Airport (about an hour northwest) and want to skip rental cars entirely.
southcarolinaparks.com/santeeHow do mileage policies work for a Manning RV rental?
Mileage is straightforward: each host sets their own daily mileage allowance (commonly 100 to 150 free miles per day), and some offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, which is perfect for a longer Manning RV trip exploring the Carolinas. Extra miles typically run $0.30 to $0.50 each. Since Manning sits at the intersection of I-95 and Highway 301, you've got tons of range: Charleston is 75 miles southeast, Myrtle Beach is 110 miles east, and Columbia is just 60 miles northwest. Pro tip: map out your rough route before booking, then filter listings by mileage policy. If you're planning a multi-state road trip from Manning, an unlimited-mileage rig pays for itself fast.
scdot.org/travel/travel-trip.aspxWhere are the best campgrounds near Manning, SC?
You are spoiled for choice when it comes to RV camping in Manning. Top picks include Santee State Park (about 15 minutes south, with lakefront RV sites on Lake Marion and the iconic overwater Rondette cabins), Taw Caw Campground and Marina (a local favorite for bass fishing with lakefront RV sites), and Lake Aire RV Park (just off I-95, convenient for overnight stays). Paddlers exploring Sparkleberry Swamp often base out of Santee-area campgrounds as well. Pro tip: Santee State Park books up months in advance for spring and fall weekends, so reserve early through the South Carolina State Parks reservation system.
southcarolinaparks.com/santeeWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from Manning, SC?
Manning shines almost year-round thanks to South Carolina's mild climate, but the sweet spots are March through May (highs 70 to 82°F, blooming azaleas) and September through November (highs 75 to 85°F, fewer bugs, prime fishing on Lake Marion). Summer (June to August) brings highs in the low 90s with high humidity and afternoon thunderstorms, so plan for early starts and a rig with strong air conditioning. Winters are mild (highs 55 to 62°F, occasional freezes), which is why so many snowbirds book extended stays here. Pro tip: late October during the Striper fishing run is magic, cool nights, warm days, and lakeside campsites without the summer crowds.

If you'd rather skip driving altogether, choose a host who offers delivery and setup at your campsite. Pro tip: ask your host for their cell number after the walkthrough. Most are happy to answer a quick text mid-trip if you forget which valve is which, you're never on your own.

Your host is also a great first call for quirks specific to their RV, and RVezy support is available throughout your trip. Pro tip: save the roadside assistance number in your phone before you leave Manning, and snap a photo of the RV's VIN and license plate during the walkthrough so you have it handy if you ever need it.

For a typical 300-mile weekend loop from Manning to Charleston and back in a Class C, budget about $90 to $120 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up at the Pilot or Love's truck stops at the I-95 Manning exits, they have RV-friendly pumps with high-flow nozzles and plenty of room to maneuver.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Manning?

For private parks like Taw Caw Campground or Lake Aire RV Park, 2 to 4 weeks ahead is usually enough outside of peak season. If you are rolling in last minute, midweek availability is almost always solid. Pro tip: check the South Carolina State Parks reservation site often if your preferred dates are full, cancellations happen frequently within a week of arrival, and that is how locals snag the best Lake Marion sites.

Weather-wise, watch for afternoon thunderstorms in summer (pull over and wait them out) and the rare hurricane advisory in September. Deer are common at dawn and dusk on rural roads like Highway 261. Pro tip: avoid I-95 northbound on Sunday afternoons in summer when beach traffic from Florida backs things up. Take Highway 521 or 301 as a scenic, stress-free alternative.

Payment is simple and secure: you pay through the RVezy platform with a credit or debit card when you book, never directly to the host in cash. A refundable security deposit, separate from your booking payment, is pre-authorized on your card before your trip and released after the host confirms the RV was returned in good shape, typically within a few days of return. To avoid deposit issues on your RV rental in Manning, take timestamped photos and a short video at pickup and dropoff (exterior, tires, and interior). Pro tip: return the RV with the same fuel and propane levels you received it with, and empty the black and gray tanks, that is the easiest way to ensure a full deposit refund.
