Campgrounds and RV parks near McColl, SC

Water and trails drive most itineraries. At Cheraw State Park, Lake Juniper anchors the recreation menu with fishing, swimming in a designated area, and kayak, canoe, and johnboat rentals from the camp store. A boardwalk trail links the campground to the swimming area, and the park also offers extensive hiking, biking, and equestrian trails plus the on-site championship golf course. H Cooper Black Jr Memorial Recreational Area is built for animals and open space. The park is one of the most equestrian-friendly in the state, with more than 20 miles of trails and sand roads plus stables, kennels, corrals, and arenas. Activities include picnicking, fishing, camping, and hunting in-season, and four ponds are available for retriever training. For a break from the road, Camp Pedro sits inside the South of the Border complex with restaurants, shops, an observation tower, an outdoor pool, and Pedro's Reptile Lagoon within walking distance.

Spring and fall are the strongest windows for RV travel in this part of South Carolina. March through May brings warm afternoons, blooming dogwoods, and comfortable nights for tent-and-RV mixed groups. Fall runs long here: September can still feel like summer, while October and November deliver cooler evenings, lower humidity, and pleasant color across the Sandhills. Summer is hot and humid, with afternoon thunderstorms common from June into August. Lake Juniper at Cheraw and the ponds at H Cooper Black keep families cool, but shaded sites and full-hookup power for air conditioning become priorities. Late summer and early fall carry residual tropical-storm risk from systems tracking inland from the Atlantic coast. Winters are mild but variable, with occasional frosty nights and rare snow. Golf course renovations at Cheraw State Park have been scheduled in past years to run from early spring through early fall, so golfing RVers should confirm course status with the park before booking. Field-trial and retriever events at H Cooper Black run heavily in cooler months and can affect site availability.

State-park sites in this region skew rustic but capable. Cheraw State Park offers 17 packed-gravel campsites with individual water and electric hookups, most 30-amp, with two full-hookup sites that include sewer. Pull-through sites accommodate RVs up to 40 feet, and other sites handle units up to 34 feet. A bathhouse with hot showers, an RV dump station, and a small camp store round out the amenities near Lake Juniper. H Cooper Black has 27 camping sites with water and electric hookups suitable for RVs, plus primitive campsites. Access roads are largely sand and dirt, so drivers of longer rigs should ask about the best approach at check-in. Camp Pedro is the polar opposite of a wilderness stay. It offers 100 full-hookup sites with 30 and 50 amp service, paved pads, free Wi-Fi, showers, and laundry facilities, plus pool passes to the adjoining motel.
