Camping near North, South Carolina
North sits in Orangeburg County in the South Carolina Midlands, about halfway between Columbia and the coastal plain. The town is small and rural, and most RV travelers use it as a quiet base between larger destinations along I-26 and US-321. Aiken, Orangeburg, and Barnwell are all within a short drive, and Columbia is roughly an hour north.
Campground options in the area range from private family parks to a South Carolina state park. River Bottom Farms Family Campground in nearby Swansea sits on 43 acres of rolling farmland and offers full-hookup RV sites, cabins, a pool, and stocked fishing ponds. Sweetwater Lake Campground provides RV sites near a private lake off I-26 in the St. Matthews area. Cedar Creek Resort Clothing Optional serves a specific adult audience, and Big Rig Friendly RV Resort caters to larger rigs and pull-through parking.
Barnwell State Park, southwest of town, adds a public option built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s and centered on three small fishing lakes.
Things to do near North
Fishing drives much of the local recreation. Barnwell State Park has three small lakes stocked with crappie, bream, bass, and catfish, and rents non-motorized boats for anglers who arrive without gear. The park also participates in the SCDNR Tackle Loaner Program, which lends rods and reels from the office.
Hiking is low-key and family-friendly. The Dogwood Interpretive Trail is an easy 1.5-mile loop, and a second nature trail of similar length winds around one of the lakes. River Bottom Farms Family Campground adds pool swimming, an arcade, a jumping pillow, nature trails down to the North Edisto River, and planned weekend activities that peak during a six-week Halloween run in the fall.
Day trips include downtown Aiken, the Congaree National Park boardwalks about an hour north, and Lake Murray.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel in this part of the Midlands. Daytime highs in March through May sit in the low to mid-70s Fahrenheit, and September through November cools gradually from the mid-80s into the 60s. Wildflowers, mild nights, and manageable humidity make these shoulder seasons the busiest for weekend reservations.
Summer is hot and humid. July and August highs average near 90°F with afternoon thunderstorms, and heat-index values can push past 100°F. Campgrounds stay open and pools help, but sites near shade fill first. Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November and peaks in September, so trip planners should watch NOAA and National Hurricane Center advisories for tropical systems tracking inland from the coast.
Winter is short and cool rather than harsh. Overnight lows dip into the upper 30s and light freezes occur, but daytime highs often reach the mid-50s. Barnwell State Park stays open year-round, and private parks in the area host snowbirds through the cool months.

How to book campgrounds near North
Barnwell State Park uses the South Carolina State Parks reservation system. Campsites can be booked up to 13 months in advance online or by calling 1-866-345-PARK. Camping reservations typically require a two-night minimum, and requests made less than one day before check-in must go directly through the park. Check-in for camping is 2:00 p.m. and check-out is noon.
Private campgrounds handle their own bookings. River Bottom Farms Family Campground accepts reservations through its own website and by phone, and Sweetwater Lake Campground, Cedar Creek Resort Clothing Optional, and Big Rig Friendly RV Resort should be contacted directly through their operator websites. Holiday weekends and the Halloween-themed weekends at River Bottom Farms fill early, so book several weeks ahead when possible.
What to expect on arrival
Roads into North and the surrounding campgrounds are rural two-lane state routes. Approaches are generally flat and easy to tow, but shoulders are narrow and cell coverage varies once off the interstate corridors. River Bottom Farms Family Campground sits on Cedar Creek Road near Swansea, and Barnwell State Park is reached from SC-3 near Blackville.
Site quality varies by park. Barnwell State Park offers packed-gravel sites with individual water and 20/30-amp electric hookups; eight sites have 50-amp service with sewer, and some pads accommodate rigs up to 36 feet with others up to 28 feet. A dump station is available on site. River Bottom Farms Family Campground has large grassy pull-through sites with 30- and 50-amp hookups.
Pets are welcome in most outdoor areas at Barnwell State Park on a leash no longer than six feet, and River Bottom Farms Family Campground is pet-friendly. Bring insect repellent, sun protection, and a water hose long enough for gravel sites.

Travel trailers in this rural Orangeburg County area generally start around $90 to $150 per night, while Class C motorhomes run $175 to $275, and larger Class A motorhomes range from $250 to $400. Because North sits in a small-town setting between Columbia and the I-95 corridor, you'll find better rates than at Charleston or Myrtle Beach pickup points. discoversouthcarolina.com/places/northWhat license do I need to rent an RV in North, SC?
Great news: your everyday driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in North, SC. South Carolina does not require a commercial driver's license (CDL) or any special endorsement for the Class B campervans, Class C motorhomes, travel trailers, or even most Class A motorhomes available on RVezy. You'll just need to be 25 or older with a valid driver's license, and RVezy verifies your identity right through the platform during booking. Visiting from outside the U.S.? Pick up an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home country's auto association before you fly. With paperwork handled in minutes, you can spend your time planning the fun parts of your South Carolina RV trip instead.
scdmv.net/driver-services/driver-licenseIs RV rental insurance and roadside assistance included on RVezy?
Yes, every RV rental in North, SC booked through RVezy includes a protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can roll into the Edisto River backcountry with real peace of mind. The protection plan covers most damage to the vehicle during your trip, and you choose your level of coverage during checkout, not the host. If you get a flat on US-321 heading toward Columbia or need a battery jump at Santee State Park, one call gets help on the way any hour of the day. That backup is especially reassuring in rural Orangeburg County, where the nearest big city is Columbia about 50 miles north. Book confidently and focus on the trip.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionWhat is RVezy's cancellation policy for North, SC rentals?
You're covered, and booking your North, SC RV rental is lower-risk than you might think. RVezy sets the cancellation policy for every trip (not individual hosts), and it includes a grace period after booking where you can cancel for a full refund. Refund amounts after that grace period depend on how far out you are from your trip start date. If a host cancels on you, RVezy refunds your booking or offers travel credit so your plans stay protected. Browse listings, lock in your dates, and know there's flexibility built in.

Absolutely, and your pup will love it. Many RVezy hosts offer pet-friendly RV rental in North, SC, so you can bring your four-legged co-pilot along for the adventure. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter when you search, and message the host to share your dog's size and breed before booking. Once you're on the road, dogs are welcome on leash at Santee State Park's hiking trails along Lake Marion, at Poinsett State Park, and at Sesquicentennial State Park near Columbia. Edisto Memorial Gardens in nearby Orangeburg is also leash-friendly and a beautiful stroll. Pro tip: pack a collapsible water bowl, the Lowcountry humidity gets serious from June through September.
southcarolinaparks.com/santeeCan the RV be delivered to my campground or address near North, SC?
Yes, RV delivery in North, SC is one of the easiest ways to start your trip, especially if you're new to RVing. Many local hosts will drive the motorhome or travel trailer straight to your campsite at Santee State Park, Sweetwater Lake Campground in nearby St. Matthews, or even a private address, then level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system. To find this option, use the Delivery filter on RVezy and check the host's delivery radius and fee, which is usually based on miles from their location. With delivery, your first RV experience starts with a setup tutorial rather than a learning curve at the gas pump.
southcarolinaparks.com/santeeHow far can I drive on an RV rental from North, SC?
You've got plenty of road to play with. Most RVezy hosts in the North, SC area include a daily mileage allowance (commonly 100 to 150 miles per day), with affordable per-mile rates after that, and some listings even offer RV rental with unlimited mileage. That's perfect for a real Southern road trip: Charleston is about 90 miles southeast, Columbia is roughly 50 miles north, Myrtle Beach is around 175 miles east, Savannah, GA is about 140 miles south, and the Great Smoky Mountains are a scenic 250-mile drive northwest. Check each listing's mileage policy on the booking page, and if you're planning a long haul, just message the host to ask about a custom package.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=North%2C%20South%20CarolinaWhere are the best campgrounds near North, SC?
You're spoiled for choice in this corner of the Midlands. Some of the best campgrounds near North, SC include Santee State Park (about 30 miles east, full-hookup sites right on Lake Marion with pier cabins and excellent bass fishing), Sweetwater Lake Campground in St. Matthews (just 20 minutes away with lakefront pull-throughs and 50-amp service), Barnyard RV Park in Lexington (about 35 miles north, big-rig friendly), Cypress View Campground inside Santee State Park, and Poinsett State Park near Wedgefield with its mossy cypress swamps. Most have full hookups, dump stations, and potable water fills. Pro tip: Santee's Lakeshore Campground books up fast for spring crappie season, so reserve early through the South Carolina State Parks system.
southcarolinaparks.com/santeeWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from North, SC?
Spring and fall are the sweet spots for RV camping in North, SC. From mid-March through May, daytime highs sit in the comfortable 70s to low 80s°F, the azaleas at Edisto Memorial Gardens bloom in full color, and humidity stays mild. October and November bring crisp 60s to 70s°F days, beautiful cypress reflections at Lake Marion, and fewer bugs. Summer (June to early September) is hot and humid, often 90°F or higher with afternoon thunderstorms, but RVs with strong AC handle it well. Winter is genuinely mild here (40s to 60s°F highs), and many parks stay open year-round, making December and January great for snowbird-style getaways. Plan for spring or fall to hit the sweet spot.
weather.gov/cae/I'm first time renting an RV, will I know what to do?
You're in great hands. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup (or at delivery), walking you through the generator, slide-outs, water system, propane, dump valves, and driving tips specific to that exact RV, no guesswork required. Most first-timers in North, SC start with a travel trailer or a Class C motorhome, which drive much like a large van or U-Haul. The roads around Orangeburg County are flat, mostly straight rural highways like US-321 and US-178, perfect for building confidence before any longer trip. You can also message the host with questions before you even book, and RVezy's support team is available 24/7. Your first RV trip should feel like an adventure, not a test.
scdmv.net/driver-services/driver-license/driver-license-manualWhat happens if I break down during my RV trip?
You're never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so a flat tire on I-26, a dead battery at Santee State Park, or a tow need outside of Orangeburg gets handled with one phone call. The dispatcher will arrange the right service, whether that's a jump start, tire change, fuel delivery, or tow to a qualified repair shop. Your host is also just a message away through the app for vehicle-specific questions. Pro tip: before you pull out of the driveway, snap a photo of the spare tire location and the fuse panel so you can describe things quickly if you ever need to call in.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my North, SC RV rental across state lines or into Canada or Mexico?
Yes, interstate road trips are one of the best parts of an RV rental in South Carolina. You can take your RV into Georgia, North Carolina, Florida, Tennessee, and beyond, perfect for a coast-to-mountains adventure. Popular routes from North include Charleston to Savannah, GA (about 200 miles total), Asheville and the Blue Ridge Parkway (around 250 miles), and the Florida panhandle beaches (roughly 400 miles). Cross-border travel into Canada may be possible with some hosts depending on insurance, so message before booking. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend there. Confirm your route with the host so everyone is aligned before you hit the road.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat's the fuel cost like for an RV road trip from North, SC?
Good news: South Carolina consistently has some of the lowest gas prices in the country, which keeps RV road trip budgets in check. Travel trailers towed by your own SUV or truck average 10 to 14 mpg, Class C motorhomes get 8 to 12 mpg, and big Class A motorhomes around 6 to 10 mpg. For a 500-mile loop hitting Santee, Charleston, and back, budget roughly $150 to $250 in fuel for a Class C at current prices. Pro tip: there's a large Pilot/Flying J at the I-95/US-301 interchange in Santee that easily handles large rigs, and it's a convenient first or last stop on your trip.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near North, SC?
Book sooner than you think, especially for the popular spots. South Carolina State Parks (including Santee, Poinsett, and Barnwell) accept reservations up to 13 months in advance through the official ReserveAmerica-powered site, and waterfront sites on Lake Marion often sell out 4 to 6 months ahead for spring weekends, fall holidays, and the bass-fishing tournaments in March and April. Private campgrounds like Sweetwater Lake and Barnyard RV Park usually have more last-minute availability but still fill up around Memorial Day, July 4, and Labor Day. Pro tip: weekday arrivals (Sunday through Wednesday) are far easier to grab, and you'll often save money on nightly rates too.
southcarolinaparks.com/reservationsWhat are the driving conditions like around North, SC?
You'll love how easy the driving is here. North, SC sits in flat, gently rolling Midlands terrain at the junction of US-321 and US-178, with wide rural roads, light traffic, and almost no mountain grades, ideal for a motorhome rental in North or your first travel trailer tow. I-26 (the main route to Charleston or Columbia) and I-95 (north-south through Santee) both have generous shoulders and easy RV-friendly exits. Watch for occasional deer at dawn and dusk on country highways, sudden summer thunderstorms that can drop heavy rain, and lower clearance on a few older rural railroad underpasses (stick to numbered routes). Otherwise, this is some of the most relaxed RV driving in the Southeast.
scdot.org/travel/travel-tripplanning.aspxWhat amenities will I find at campgrounds near North, SC?
You'll find everything you need within a short drive. Most campgrounds near North, SC, including Santee State Park, Sweetwater Lake Campground, and Barnyard RV Park, offer full hookups (water, 30/50-amp electric, sewer), clean bathhouses with hot showers, dump stations for sites without sewer, and potable water fill stations. Many also have laundry, Wi-Fi (varies in strength out in the country), camp stores, fishing piers, and boat ramps on Lake Marion. Santee State Park even has a tackle shop and naturalist programs. If you need to dump tanks between stops, Santee, Lake Marion, and most KOAs in the region offer pay-per-use dumping. Pro tip: top off your fresh water before leaving any developed campground, rural fills can be scarce.

Many listings also include a generator for boondocking, an outdoor awning, a propane grill hookup, and basic kitchen kits with pots, plates, and utensils. Check the listing's Amenities section for specifics like Wi-Fi hotspots, solar, or back-up cameras. Pro tip: message the host to confirm linens and towels, some include them free, others offer them as an add-on.
southcarolinaparks.com/santeeWhat add-ons and pickup logistics should I plan for?
You've got flexibility to customize your trip. Popular add-ons on RVezy listings near North include delivery and setup (often $2 to $5 per mile from the host), generator usage (sometimes a flat fee or per-hour rate over an included allowance), linen and kitchen packages ($50 to $150), camp chairs, bikes, kayaks, and even firewood. Pickup and dropoff times are set by the host and listed on the booking page (typically pickup early afternoon, drop-off late morning), and most hosts are flexible if you message ahead. Mileage policies vary, with daily allowances of around 100 to 150 miles being common and unlimited-mileage listings available too. Pro tip: bundle delivery plus a setup package if it's your first time, it's the most relaxing way to start.

When you book your RV rental in North, SC, you'll pay through the website or app using a credit or debit card, and your card information stays protected. Most listings also require a refundable security deposit, which is pre-authorized (held but not charged) on your card a few days before pickup and released after the trip ends, assuming no damage or policy violations. The exact deposit amount is shown on the listing page before you book. Pro tip: take time-stamped photos and a short walk-around video at pickup and dropoff so any deposit questions can be resolved quickly and fairly.
