Campgrounds and RV parks near Oakland, SC

Oakland is a small community in Sumter County in the South Carolina Midlands, roughly between Columbia and the Lake Marion basin. The area sits at the edge of the Sandhills, where longleaf pine ridges meet the coastal plain, giving RV travelers access to state-park camping, blackwater rivers, and reservoir shorelines within a short drive. The closest state-park camping is Poinsett State Park in the High Hills of Santee, just south of Oakland. Lee State Park sits northeast along the Lynches River near Bishopville, while Sesquicentennial State Park lies west near Columbia. Cypress View at Santee State Park adds a Lake Marion option to the south, and Columbia / Camden RV Park serves travelers wanting a private park with fuller hookups. Most RV travelers use Oakland as a quiet base for exploring these parks without paying for lodging in Columbia. Interstate 20, I-95, and US-378 all pass within an hour, making it a practical staging point for trips deeper into the Lowcountry or up toward the Charlotte metro.
