Campgrounds and RV parks near Saint Andrews, SC

Sesquicentennial State Park offers a 30-acre lake for fishing and non-motorized boating, several nature trails, a six-mile mountain-bike loop, a playground, a splash pad, and a fenced dog park. Kayak, canoe, and fishing boat rentals are available on site, and the park hosts interpretive nature programs geared toward families. Beyond the state park, Columbia adds Riverbanks Zoo and Garden, the South Carolina State Museum, the State Capitol grounds, and the Congaree River blueway. Congaree National Park, home to the largest expanse of old-growth bottomland hardwood forest in the Southeastern United States, sits southeast of the city and is a common day trip. Lake Murray, west of Saint Andrews, is the closest large lake for boating, swimming, and shoreline picnics.

The Midlands has a humid subtropical climate with hot, muggy summers and mild winters. July is the hottest month, with average highs near 93 F, and summer is also the wettest stretch of the year, with frequent afternoon thunderstorms. Renters traveling in June, July, or August should plan for heat, humidity, and storms, and should confirm shade and 50-amp service for running air conditioning. Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for camping. Highs from March through May climb from the mid 60s into the low 80s, and October and November bring cooler nights with the year's clearest skies. Wildflowers, dogwoods, and fall color at Sesquicentennial and Congaree draw steady weekend traffic. Winters are cool rather than harsh. Nights can drop below freezing from December through February, and hard freezes occasionally affect water hookups, so RV renters should be ready to disconnect and use onboard tanks during cold snaps. Snow is rare, averaging about an inch per year.

Sesquicentennial State Park has 84 sites arranged in two loops with packed sand or gravel surfaces. Sites 1-29 offer 20/30/50-amp electric service, sites 1-9 include full hookups with sewer, and the remaining sites carry 20/30-amp electric with water. Modern restrooms with hot showers and a dump station are on site, and cell service is generally usable though tree cover can weaken signals. Private parks in the area lean toward level, pull-through sites with full hookups. Barnyard RV Park accommodates larger rigs with long pull-throughs, and Big Rig Friendly RV Resort offers extra-long sites and interstate access designed for big-rig arrivals.
