Campgrounds and RV parks near Santee, SC

Lake Marion drives most of the activity. The lake is known for largemouth bass, striper, catfish, and crappie, and public boat ramps sit inside Santee State Park and at Lake Marion Resort and Marina. Guides run half- and full-day trips out of both. Swimming, kayaking, and pontoon rentals are common summer bookings. On land, Santee State Park has several miles of hiking and multi-use trails through cypress-tupelo swamp and pine flatwoods, plus a fishing pier that extends over the lake. The area is also a stop on birding routes, with wading birds and bald eagles regularly sighted. Golf is a shoulder-season draw, and the town has multiple courses within a few minutes of the interstate. Poinsett State Park and Congaree National Park are within day-trip range for hikers wanting more terrain.

Spring, from March through May, is the busiest stretch for anglers. Bass spawn on Lake Marion runs through the spring, and tournaments book out lakefront sites at Santee State Park and Lake Marion Resort and Marina well in advance. Daytime temperatures are comfortable and humidity is still manageable. Summer is hot and humid, with afternoon thunderstorms common and heat indices frequently in the upper 90s. It remains a strong family season for swimming and tubing, and July is the wettest month, averaging around 157 mm of precipitation across roughly 13 rainy days. Hurricane season runs June through November, with peak risk from August into October, and storms occasionally track inland from the Atlantic and can force temporary closures. Fall brings cooler nights, lower humidity, and steadier fishing, and it is generally the driest window. Winter is mild by North American standards and popular with long-term snowbirds; freezes occur but rarely last more than a day or two, and most private parks stay open year-round while some state park loops rotate through maintenance closures.

Roads into Santee off I-95 and US-301 handle large rigs without issue, and most campgrounds have pull-through sites suited to travel trailers, fifth wheels, and Class A motorhomes. Santee State Park has lower clearance in a few spots on interior loops, so check site dimensions when booking a longer coach. Full hookups with 30 and 50 amp service are standard at Lake Marion Resort and Marina, Santee / Santee Lakes KOA Journey, and Palmetto Shores RV Resort. Santee State Park sites offer water and electric, with a dump station on site rather than sewer hookups at each pad. Expect Spanish moss, mature hardwoods, and mosquitoes near dusk in warmer months, so pack repellent. Cell coverage is generally solid along the I-95 corridor and lighter deeper into the park loops.
