Campgrounds near Van Wyck
Van Wyck sits in northern Lancaster County, South Carolina, along the Catawba River just south of the North Carolina line. The area falls within the Piedmont region and puts RV travelers within a short drive of both Charlotte-area attractions and the lakes and state parks of the upper Catawba corridor. It is a practical base for families combining theme-park days with quieter time on the water.
Within roughly a half-hour radius, RV renters can choose Andrew Jackson State Park for a state-run experience on wooded ground, Crown Cove RV Park for a small private option, or the Charlotte / Fort Mill KOA Journey for franchise amenities close to I-77. Ebenezer Park sits on the shores of Lake Wylie with lakeside RV sites, while Carowinds Camp Wilderness Resort is built next to the Carowinds theme park on the state line.
Hookup levels vary: state park sites offer water and electric only, while the county park and private resorts include full hookups. Layouts range from wooded pull-throughs to open lakeside pads.
Things to do around Van Wyck
The Catawba River and Lake Wylie anchor most outdoor plans. Ebenezer Park has a designated swimming area, a semicircular fishing pier, three boat ramps, and a kayak and canoe launch on Lake Wylie, making it a common day trip for renters staying farther inland. Andrew Jackson State Park adds nature trails, an 18-acre fishing lake, and a museum focused on the seventh president's boyhood in the Waxhaws.
For families, Carowinds Camp Wilderness Resort provides direct access to the Carowinds amusement park and its water park, which is the main summer draw for the region. Charlotte / Fort Mill KOA Journey works well as a base for uptown Charlotte, the U.S. National Whitewater Center, and Fort Mill dining. Cyclists and walkers use the Anne Springs Close Greenway in nearby Fort Mill for shaded trails and creek crossings.

Carowinds Camp Wilderness Resort ties much of its schedule to the theme park's operating calendar, with peak crowds in summer and around the park's fall Halloween event weekends. Andrew Jackson State Park and Ebenezer Park both operate year-round, though some facilities and hours may be reduced in the winter months.

This was our second time renting from Matt and Shannon, and once again everything was smooth from start to finish. Their RV made our weekend at the Ebony Horsemen Rodeo comfortable and stress-free. Can't wait to book with them again for next year's event!

Here’s a polished rewrite of your review: --- Matt was an outstanding host. He was flexible when I needed to adjust both the drop-off location and the rental dates for the RV. He personally met me to hand over the RV, walked me through how to use the equipment, and made sure I felt comfortable. Throughout the process, he was attentive and responsive to my concerns, which made the experience smooth and enjoyable.

How to book
Andrew Jackson State Park uses the South Carolina State Parks reservation system, which accepts bookings up to thirteen months in advance. Weekends in spring and fall book out first, and holidays fill quickly, so early booking is recommended for any Friday or Saturday arrival. A two-night minimum typically applies.
Ebenezer Park, operated by York County, also accepts camping reservations up to thirteen months in advance through the county's parks system, with a maximum stay of 14 nights and its own cancellation windows. Crown Cove RV Park, Charlotte / Fort Mill KOA Journey, and Carowinds Camp Wilderness Resort each take reservations directly through their own websites or the KOA platform.
Renters with larger Class A or fifth-wheel rigs should confirm site length and hookup amperage at time of booking. At Andrew Jackson State Park, only five paved sites accommodate rigs up to 36 feet; the other 20 gravel sites are limited to 30 feet.
What to expect on arrival
Access to the area is primarily via US-521 through Van Wyck and I-77 a few miles west. Private parks near the interstate offer easy in-and-out for larger rigs, while Andrew Jackson State Park and Ebenezer Park involve slower county roads with a few tight turns near the entrances.
Expect wooded, shaded sites at Andrew Jackson State Park and a mix of open and shaded concrete pads at Ebenezer Park. The private KOA and resort locations lean toward more open, gravel or paved layouts. Cell coverage is generally strong across the Charlotte metro side and lighter on the Lancaster County side of the river.
Biting insects, ticks, and occasional copperheads are part of Piedmont camping, especially in warm months. Standard precautions apply: keep food secured, use insect repellent on trails, and check for ticks after hikes.
