Campgrounds and RV parks near Wallace, SC

Water and golf drive most trips. Cheraw State Park centers on Lake Juniper, with fishing, paddling, swimming, and small-boat use. The park's Tom Jackson-designed championship 18-hole course runs through longleaf pine habitat and is a draw for RVers who golf, though the course has periodic closures for renovation and tournaments, so verify status with the pro shop before booking. H Cooper Black Jr Memorial Recreational Area is the state's only park set up for field trial and retriever competitions, with more than 20 miles of equestrian trails and sand roads, plus stables, kennels, corrals, and an arena. Hikers can walk the park trails at Cheraw State Park, and birders come for the endangered red-cockaded woodpecker that nests in the surrounding pine forest. Private resorts add pools, stocked ponds, and organized activities suited to families with kids.

Spring and fall are the strongest seasons for RV travel around Wallace. Days are warm, humidity is manageable, and the state parks are fully open. Spring wildflowers and cool nights make March through May a popular booking window at Cheraw State Park, and the waterfront sites on Lake Juniper tend to go first. Summer is hot and humid, with afternoon thunderstorms typical across inland South Carolina. Tropical systems from the Atlantic can also push rain inland during late summer and early fall, so trip flexibility helps. Shade is limited at some private sites, and the Lake Juniper swim area is a summer draw. Fall brings drier, cooler weather and heavy use of H Cooper Black by field trial and retriever competitors, especially around scheduled weekend retriever tests. Winters are mild but variable, with occasional freezing rain and rare snow. Hunting seasons overlap with camping months at H Cooper Black: anyone using the property outside the campground during gun and muzzleloader seasons for deer, bear, or hogs must wear blaze orange under SCDNR wildlife management area rules.

State park sites at Cheraw are packed gravel with individual water and electric hookups, restrooms with hot showers, and an RV dump station. Six sites sit directly on Lake Juniper. Pull-through sites accommodate RVs up to 40 feet, and back-in sites fit rigs up to 34 feet. Sites 4 and 5 are full-service with 30-amp electric, water, and sewer. H Cooper Black is more remote in feel, with two comfort stations, mature pine and hardwood cover, and 27 electric and water sites plus primitive options. Expect to share the park with horse trailers and working dogs; pets in the camping area must be on leash, crated, or under voice control. Private resorts in the Sandhills tend to offer full hookups, WiFi, pools, laundry, and playgrounds. Cell service in the wooded state parks can be spotty, so download maps and reservation confirmations before arrival.
