Campgrounds and RV parks near Wilkinson Heights, SC

Lake Marion is the main draw. Together with Lake Moultrie, the two lakes cover more than 170,000 acres and are known for their inland striped bass fishery and abundant catfish populations. Boating, kayaking, and shoreline fishing are the primary on-water activities, and pontoon boat tours into the lake's flooded cypress headwaters run out of the marina and park store at Santee State Park. On land, Santee State Park has hiking and biking trails, boat ramps, and a fishing pier, and self-serve kayak rentals are offered through Whenever Watersports. Sweetwater Lake Campground has a stocked pond for fishing. Day-trippers can reach Congaree National Park to the north and the historic districts of Orangeburg and St. Matthews within a short drive.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel in this part of South Carolina. Daytime highs sit in the seventies to low eighties Fahrenheit, humidity is manageable, and the lakes stay warm enough for swimming and paddling from late spring through early fall. Summer is hot and humid, with afternoon thunderstorms common from June through August. Biting insects are active, and shaded sites at Cypress View - Santee State Park and Lakeshore - Santee State Park book out fastest during school breaks and holiday weekends. Atlantic hurricane season runs from June through November, with peak activity in August and September; storms tracking inland can bring heavy rain and wind to the Midlands. Winter is mild but wet, with occasional overnight freezes. Most private parks and both Santee State Park campgrounds stay open year round. Roadwork and repaving projects can temporarily close the Lakeshore East Entrance road, so travelers should check the park's alerts page before booking summer stays.

Cypress View - Santee State Park has 50 sites on the west side of the park, and Lakeshore - Santee State Park has 108 sites on the east side. Each site has packed sand, individual water and electric hookups, a picnic table, and a fire ring, with restrooms and hot showers nearby, and many sites accommodate RVs up to 40 feet. Cypress View sites are mostly level with a gravel surface, which makes parking a larger rig easier than at Lakeshore. Both campgrounds have dump stations, playgrounds, and a park store with a Wi-Fi lounge; cell service in the park is fair. Private parks in the corridor are smaller and simpler. Expect gravel or grass pads, basic electric and water hookups, and rural surroundings rather than resort amenities.
