Campgrounds and RV parks near Alexandria, TN

Water recreation drives most trips to the area. The Caney Fork River winds through Middle Tennessee and feeds into Center Hill Lake, offering kayaking, canoeing, trout fishing, and scenic views surrounded by forested hills. Edgar Evins State Park covers roughly 6,000 acres on Center Hill Lake and maintains a marina and full-service boat dock, with about 12 miles of trails ranging from easy walks to strenuous hikes. At Cordell Hull Lake, Defeated Creek offers swimming from a beach area with lake access, plus fishing, tennis and volleyball courts, and a playground. The Bearwaller Gap Trail near Defeated Creek is a scenic route that climbs to lake and dam overlooks and suits day-hikers of moderate experience. Cedars Of Lebanon State Park adds a different kind of outing. The park protects one of the largest public stands of eastern red cedar in the country, with hiking trails, a nature center, disc golf, an Olympic-sized swimming pool, and rare cedar-glade plant communities.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable seasons for RV camping in the Alexandria area. Days warm quickly from March into May, wildflowers bloom in the cedar glades at Cedars Of Lebanon, and lake levels on Center Hill and Cordell Hull are generally full. Spring is also one of the wettest stretches of the year, so booking sites with paved pads and good drainage matters. Summer brings the peak season. Weekends fill fast at lakefront campgrounds, and highs regularly reach the upper 80s Fahrenheit with high humidity and frequent afternoon thunderstorms. Waterfront sites at Defeated Creek Marina Campground and lake-view sites at Edgar Evins State Park are the first to book. Fall cools steadily through September and October and typically delivers the most stable weather of the year, with strong hardwood color from mid to late October. Winter is quieter. The Edgar Evins campground stays open year-round, with about 20 sites and one bathhouse available in the coldest months, while Defeated Creek Campground closes for the winter and operates roughly from late March through early November.

Expect a mix of paved and gravel pads, tree cover, and rolling terrain. At Edgar Evins State Park there are 68 campsites including 9 tent-only walk-in sites, the campground is open all year, and 59 sites can accommodate RVs and trailers with water and electric hookups, most designed for rigs up to 33 feet with a few longer sites up to 40 feet. Sites are built on raised wooden platforms on steep, wooded slopes above Center Hill Lake. Defeated Creek is the largest option in the area, with 155 sites accommodating both tents and RVs, all equipped with electric hookups, plus a swimming beach, boat ramp, and adjacent marina. Cedars Of Lebanon State Park runs three camping areas. All sites have picnic tables, grills, and electric and water hookups with 20/30/50-amp service, three bathhouses provide hot showers, and there is a dump station for self-contained rigs. Sites can be close together with limited privacy, so families booking multiple RVs can usually cluster nearby.
