Camping near Blountville, Tennessee
Blountville sits in Sullivan County in the northeast corner of Tennessee, wedged between Kingsport and Bristol and just off I-81. The area serves as a practical base for the Tri-Cities region, with access to Cherokee National Forest, South Holston Lake, Boone Lake, and the mountains that rise toward the North Carolina and Virginia borders. Tri-Cities Airport sits inside the town limits, which makes fly-and-drive RV trips straightforward.
Campground options within a short drive cover the full range. Appalachian Caverns Campground pairs sites with an on-property show cave, while Peaceful Valley Campground and Copperhead Ridge Glamping & RV Park focus on quieter stays with RV hookups and cabins or glamping units. Lakeview RV Resort caters to travelers who want water access, and Shadrack Campground is oriented toward large-event crowds at nearby Bristol Motor Speedway.
Campgrounds near Blountville range from developed state parks to private RV resorts, with several options within a 30-minute drive. Warriors' Path State Park at Kingsport, on Patrick Henry Reservoir on the Holston River, and Little Oak on South Holston Lake round out the public-land choices.
Things to do around Blountville
Water and mountains anchor the trip planning. Warriors' Path State Park sits on Patrick Henry Reservoir on the Holston River, and visitors can enjoy boating, fishing, hiking, birding, golfing, mountain biking, paddling, and disc golf throughout the park. The park has spots for tent and RV camping, hiking trails, a lake for kayaking and fishing, a marina with rentals, and a Boundless Playground.
Cherokee National Forest lies to the east, with South Holston Lake and Watauga Lake offering swimming, paddling, and trout fishing. Appalachian Caverns provides a guided cave tour a short walk from its campground.
Motorsports fans use Blountville as a base for Bristol Motor Speedway. The 0.533-mile oval in Bristol has a concrete racing surface with 26 to 30 degrees of banking in the turns, and the Bass Pro Shops Night Race is held there each September, with the spring Food City race weekend drawing similar crowds. Historic downtown Jonesborough and the Birthplace of Country Music Museum in Bristol are within easy day-trip range.

Bristol has a humid subtropical climate, bringing warm summers and cold winters with a strong seasonal contrast. Rainfall is fairly wet and spread evenly through the year, though heavy seasonal downpours can occur in warmer months. Winters bring regular snowfall to the area. Spring brings mild days and reliable rain, with dogwood and rhododendron blooming in April and May. It is a strong window for lake and cave visits before summer humidity sets in.
Summer is peak camping season. Days climb into the mid-80s Fahrenheit, thunderstorms are frequent, and popular sites at Warriors' Path and lakeside private parks fill on weekends. Book early, especially around July 4 and the summer race weekend.
Fall is arguably the best season for RV travel in the region. October sees the least precipitation with about 2.1 inches, and leaf color peaks in the surrounding mountains in mid to late October. The September Bass Pro Shops Night Race weekend sells out campgrounds within a wide radius of Bristol Motor Speedway. Winter is quiet, with some private parks and forest campgrounds closed or on limited services.
How to book near Blountville
Reservation systems vary by campground type. For Warriors' Path State Park, reservations are made through the Tennessee State Parks reservation system, and advanced reservations may be made up to 1 year in advance. Cherokee National Forest campgrounds such as Little Oak are booked through Recreation.gov, typically on a six-month rolling window.
Private parks including Appalachian Caverns Campground, Peaceful Valley Campground, Lakeview RV Resort, and Copperhead Ridge Glamping & RV Park take direct reservations by phone or through their websites. For race weekends at Bristol Motor Speedway, book Shadrack Campground and other nearby private parks as soon as the NASCAR schedule is released, often close to a year in advance. Peak demand in the region runs April through October, so reservations are strongly advised.
What to expect on site
Most private RV parks near Blountville offer full hookups, Wi-Fi, laundry, and a pool or playground. Pull-through sites suited to Class A and larger fifth wheels are common at Lakeview RV Resort and Copperhead Ridge Glamping & RV Park. Appalachian Caverns Campground and Peaceful Valley Campground lean toward quieter, family-oriented stays.
Public-land sites are more varied. At Warriors' Path, the Main Campground has water and electric hookups, while the Moody Bluff Campground offers deluxe sites with water, electric, and sewer, including pull-through options for larger RVs. Some sites can accommodate RVs up to 75 feet, and there are nine pull-through sites.
Cell service is generally reliable near the interstate corridor and weaker in the Cherokee National Forest. Some forest campgrounds require navigation on unpaved roads that can become challenging after rain. Bears are present in the mountains east of town, so use food lockers or secured storage where posted.

Travel trailers typically start around $90 to $150 per night, and Class C motorhomes range from $175 to $275 per night. Pricing depends on the season, vehicle size, and add-ons like generators or camping kits. Pro tip: filter by Instant Book to compare nightly totals quickly and see all-in pricing before you commit.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Blountville%2C%20TennesseeDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Blountville, Tennessee?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Blountville, even for larger Class A and Class C motorhomes. Tennessee does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any RV-specific endorsement for personal recreational vehicles, which covers virtually every rental on RVezy. You'll need to be 25 or older with a valid license, and identity verification happens right through the platform when you book. Visiting from outside the US? Bring your home-country license along with an International Driving Permit (IDP) and you're set. Most first-time renters are surprised how quickly the approval step goes, often within a few hours.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat protection is included with my Blountville RV rental?
Every RVezy booking in Blountville includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit Interstate 81 with real peace of mind. The protection plan covers physical damage to the RV during your trip, and you choose your coverage level during checkout (not the host) so you can pick what fits your comfort zone. Coverage tiers vary in deductible and limits, and it's one of the biggest reasons guests choose a peer-to-peer motorhome rental in Blountville over the unknowns of casual rentals. Pro tip: review the coverage tiers carefully at booking, especially if you're heading into the Cherokee National Forest where gravel roads can kick up the occasional rock.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat is the cancellation policy if my Blountville RV trip plans change?
Booking is low-risk: RVezy sets the cancellation policy (not individual hosts), and every booking includes a grace period right after checkout where you can cancel for a full refund. After that, refund eligibility depends on how far out you are from your trip start date. East Tennessee can occasionally see severe weather in winter or during summer thunderstorm season, and RVezy support can walk you through options if something unexpected comes up. You'll see the exact terms before you confirm payment. Pro tip: if you're booking around a Bristol Motor Speedway race weekend, lock in your rental early and you'll still have flexibility in those first hours after confirmation.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Blountville?
Absolutely, a pet-friendly RV rental in Blountville is easy to find: just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you'll see plenty of dog-welcoming rigs. Many local hosts charge a small pet fee (typically $25 to $75 per trip) and may ask that pets stay off furniture. Once you're on the road, Warriors' Path State Park in nearby Kingsport has leashed-pet trails along Fort Patrick Henry Lake, and the Bristol/Kingsport KOA welcomes dogs at both tent and RV sites. Bays Mountain Park in Kingsport also allows leashed dogs on most trails. Pro tip: message the host before booking to mention your pup's size and breed so check-in is smooth and stress-free.
tnstateparks.com/parks/warriors-pathCan the RV be delivered to my campsite in Blountville?
Yes, RV delivery in Blountville is one of the most popular options on the platform, and it's a game-changer if it's your first time renting an RV. Many hosts will drive the RV directly to Bristol/Kingsport KOA, Rocky Top Campground, Warriors' Path State Park, or even your driveway if you're staying with family for a Bristol Motor Speedway race. They'll level the rig, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system so you never touch a hitch. Delivery fees typically run $2 to $4 per mile from the host's location. Filter by Delivery on RVezy to see who offers it. Pro tip: ask about setup and pickup at the end of your trip too, it's often bundled.
koa.com/campgrounds/bristol/How many miles do I get with a Blountville RV rental and where can I drive?

From Blountville, you're within easy range of Great Smoky Mountains National Park (about 110 miles south), Pigeon Forge (95 miles), Asheville, NC (75 miles), Roan Mountain State Park (45 miles), and Cherokee National Forest (30 miles). You're spoiled for choice on RV camping in Blountville. Bristol/Kingsport KOA Holiday on Rocky Branch Road offers full hookups, a pool, and Patio Sites that suit big rigs. Rocky Top Campground, just off Interstate 81, is a quiet wooded park great for adults and race fans heading to Bristol Motor Speedway. Warriors' Path State Park in Kingsport has lakeside sites with water and electric hookups on Fort Patrick Henry Lake. Little Oak Campground on South Holston Lake (about 25 miles east in the Cherokee National Forest) is a stunning secluded option bookable through Recreation.gov. Pro tip: book state park sites 4 to 8 weeks ahead through the Tennessee State Parks reservation system.
tnstateparks.com/parks/warriors-pathWhen is the best time to rent an RV in Blountville, TN?
Blountville shines for RV travel from April through late October, with the sweet spots being mid-April to early June and September through mid-October. Spring brings dogwood blooms and highs in the 65 to 75°F range, while fall delivers spectacular Blue Ridge foliage and crisp 70°F days. July and August are warm and humid with highs around 84°F, so you'll want a rig with strong air conditioning. Winters are short but chilly (January lows around 27°F), and snow is light most years, making winter trips doable in a four-season RV. Pro tip: book a campervan rental in Blountville for the third week of September when fall colors peak in the surrounding mountains and crowds thin out.
weather.gov/mrx/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay renting one in Blountville?
You've got this, and Blountville is actually a great spot for first time renting an RV. Hosts on RVezy provide a thorough orientation at pickup, walking you through driving, leveling, propane, water systems, and the dump station, so you're never figuring it out alone. The roads around Blountville are forgiving: Interstate 81 is wide and straight, and Highway 394 to Bristol is gentle. If the idea of driving still feels big, choose a host who offers delivery and let them park and set up the rig at your campground. You can also message any host before booking with questions about handling. Pro tip: start with a smaller Class C motorhome or campervan rental in Blountville to build confidence on your first trip.
tn.gov/tdot.htmlWhat happens if the RV breaks down during my trip?
Take a breath: every Blountville RV rental includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so help is one phone call away whether you're parked at Warriors' Path State Park or rolling through Cherokee National Forest. The roadside team can dispatch for flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, towing, and mechanical issues. Your host is also a direct text away for quick questions about quirks of their specific rig, and RVezy support is reachable before, during, and after your trip. Cell coverage is solid across most of the Tri-Cities area, though it can get spotty deep in the Cherokee National Forest. Pro tip: save the roadside number in your phone and screenshot it before you head into mountain areas with weak signal.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Blountville RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, interstate travel from Blountville is wide open and one of the perks of the location. You're 15 minutes from the Virginia border, two hours from North Carolina's Blue Ridge Parkway, and within easy reach of Kentucky and Georgia, all allowed on standard RVezy bookings. Popular routes include Blountville to Asheville, NC (75 miles), Blountville to the Great Smoky Mountains (110 miles), and Blountville to Shenandoah National Park, VA (about 280 miles). Travel into Canada may be allowed with host approval, so message before booking if that's your plan. Travel into Mexico is not permitted because insurance coverage doesn't extend there. Pro tip: confirm any multi-state itinerary with your host so they can plan mileage and check-in times.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on a Blountville RV trip?
Fuel budgeting in East Tennessee is friendlier than in many parts of the country. Gas prices in the Tri-Cities area typically run a bit below the national average, and Blountville has plenty of large stations with RV-friendly pumps along Highway 394 and near Interstate 81 exits. Class B campervans average 18 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes get 10 to 14 MPG, and Class A rigs and large travel trailers (when towed) average 7 to 10 MPG. For a 3-night trip to the Smokies (about 220 miles round trip) in a Class C, plan on roughly $70 to $100 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up in Blountville or Kingsport before heading into the mountains, where prices climb and stations thin out.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Blountville?
Plan ahead and you'll lock in the best spots. For Tennessee State Parks like Warriors' Path, reservations open up to 12 months in advance through the official tnstateparks.com booking system, and summer weekends fill 1 to 3 months out. Cherokee National Forest sites like Little Oak Campground book through Recreation.gov up to 6 months ahead. Private parks like Bristol/Kingsport KOA and Rocky Top Campground take reservations year-round and can sometimes accommodate last-minute stays midweek. The single exception: Bristol Motor Speedway race weekends sell out 6 to 12 months in advance for every campground within 30 miles. Pro tip: if a race weekend is your goal, book the campsite first, then book your RV rental in Blountville to match the dates.
recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/234469What are driving conditions like around Blountville?
Driving an RV around Blountville is refreshingly easy compared to mountain destinations farther south. Interstate 81 runs right past town with wide lanes and gentle grades, and Highway 394 to Bristol is a straightforward 15-minute drive. The main thing to watch for is summer afternoon thunderstorms (June through August) that can drop heavy rain quickly, and the occasional winter ice event between December and February. If you head south on Highway 421 toward Mountain City or east into the Cherokee National Forest, expect tighter curves and steeper grades, so take it slow and use lower gears on descents. Pro tip: avoid Highway 394 between 5 and 7 p.m. on Bristol Motor Speedway race days when traffic backs up significantly.
smartway.tn.gov/trafficWhere can I dump tanks and fill fresh water near Blountville?
You'll find plenty of dump stations and water fills within a short drive of Blountville. The Bristol/Kingsport KOA and Rocky Top Campground both offer dump and water for registered guests, and Warriors' Path State Park has a public dump station near its main campground entrance for a small fee. Most campgrounds in the area provide full hookups (water, 30/50-amp electric, and sewer) right at the site, so you may not even need a separate dump trip. Cherokee National Forest sites like Little Oak typically have water spigots and vault toilets but no sewer hookups, so plan accordingly. Pro tip: top off fresh water in Blountville before heading into the national forest, where potable water spigots can be seasonal.
fs.usda.gov/cherokeeWhat amenities can I expect inside a Blountville RV rental?
Blountville rentals come well-equipped for comfortable East Tennessee adventures. Most Class C motorhomes and travel trailers on RVezy include a queen bed, convertible dinette, full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink), bathroom with shower and toilet, roof-mounted air conditioning, and a propane furnace for cool mountain nights. Many hosts also provide a generator (great for boondocking in Cherokee National Forest), outdoor awning, flat-screen TV, and sometimes WiFi hotspots, though signal can drop in remote areas. Seatbelts are installed for safe travel for the whole family. Pro tip: when comparing listings, look closely at the photos of the kitchen and bathroom, and message hosts to ask about included linens, towels, and camp chairs so you know exactly what to pack.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Blountville%2C%20TennesseeWhat add-ons and pickup options should I look for when booking?
Blountville hosts offer a wide menu of add-ons that can level up your trip. Common extras include camping kits (chairs, table, lantern, kitchenware) for $30 to $75, bedding and towel packages for $25 to $50, generators for $20 to $40 per day, bike racks, and propane refills. Pickup is typically from the host's home or a nearby meeting spot near Tri-Cities Airport, with delivery to local campgrounds available from many hosts. Mileage policies vary by listing, so check whether your booking includes 100 free miles per night or unlimited mileage. Pro tip: bundle add-ons at the time of booking rather than adding them last-minute, hosts often discount package deals and it saves a stop on your way out of town.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Blountville%2C%20TennesseeHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy in Blountville?
Payment is straightforward and secure: you pay through the RVezy platform with a credit or debit card, never cash or checks to the host. A security deposit (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the rig) is placed as an authorization hold on your card a few days before pickup and released after a clean return. To avoid any deposit issues on your Blountville RV trip, do a quick walk-around video with the host at pickup and dropoff, return the RV with the same fuel and propane levels, and empty the tanks if your agreement requires it. Pro tip: keep all pickup and dropoff photos in a dedicated phone album so you have a clear timeline if any questions come up later.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksHow should I handle hot, humid summers in a Blountville RV?
Summer RV camping in Blountville is fantastic if you plan around the heat. July and August highs hover around 84°F with humidity that can push the heat index into the low 90s, so prioritize a rental with a strong roof air conditioner and book campsites with 30 or 50-amp electric hookups (Bristol/Kingsport KOA, Warriors' Path, and Rocky Top all qualify) so you can run AC comfortably. Drive in the morning when temperatures are cooler and afternoon thunderstorms are less likely. For the smart-money move, shift your trip to late September or early October: highs drop to the low 70s, humidity vanishes, and rates ease off. Pro tip: parking in the shade at South Holston Lake area campgrounds keeps the rig 10 to 15°F cooler inside.
