Campgrounds near Church Hill, Tennessee
Church Hill sits in Hawkins County in northeast Tennessee, along the U.S. 11W corridor between Kingsport and Rogersville. The town gives RV travelers quick access to the Holston River, Cherokee Lake to the south, and the southern Appalachian ridges that separate Tennessee from southwest Virginia. Base camps here work well for trips combining Tri-Cities attractions, Bristol Motor Speedway, and the caves and gorges just across the state line.
RV options in the immediate area lean toward small private parks on the river and family-run campgrounds. Holston Hideaway and Clinch River Valley Family Campground Llc sit closest to town, while Timberfell Lodge and Baileyton KOA Holiday extend the range south and west along I-81. Public land camping is available a short drive north at Natural Tunnel State Park in Scott County, Virginia.
Sites in the region range from full-hookup pull-throughs suited to larger rigs to primitive tent pads. Cell coverage is generally reliable near the interstate and thins out in the ridge-and-valley country north of town.
Things to do near Church Hill
The signature day trip is Natural Tunnel State Park, about 25 miles north near Duffield, Virginia. The park centers on an 850-foot limestone tunnel roughly ten stories tall, reached by a chairlift or a hiking trail, and it offers cave tours, guided canoe trips on the Clinch River, and the Wilderness Road Historical Area with a replica frontier blockhouse.
Closer to Church Hill, the Holston River draws anglers for smallmouth bass, and Cherokee Lake to the south provides boat ramps and swim beaches. Bays Mountain Park in Kingsport has a nature center, planetarium, and lake trails that work well for kids.
For rainy days, Bristol Caverns is under an hour east, and the Birthplace of Country Music Museum in Bristol is a short additional drive.

The main RV season in this part of northeast Tennessee and southwest Virginia runs from early spring through late fall. At Natural Tunnel State Park, tent and RV campsites are open from the first Friday in March until the first Monday in December, while cabins, the lodge, and yurts stay available year-round. The park's chairlift to the tunnel floor typically operates from the first weekend in May through the last full weekend in October, running daily between Memorial Day and Labor Day and weekends into fall.
Summer is the busiest window. Weekends between Memorial Day and Labor Day book up early at both state park and private campgrounds along the interstate, and heat and humidity peak in July and August with frequent afternoon thunderstorms.
Spring and fall are the most comfortable stretches for hiking and paddling. Fall color across the Clinch and Holston ridges typically peaks in mid to late October. Winter stays are limited to cabins, yurts, and a handful of year-round private campgrounds, and mountain roads can see snow and ice.

How to book
Private campgrounds around Church Hill, including Holston Hideaway, Clinch River Valley Family Campground Llc, Timberfell Lodge, and Baileyton KOA Holiday, are booked directly through each park's website or by phone. Baileyton KOA Holiday can also be reserved through the KOA reservation system. For summer weekends and holiday periods, reserving several weeks out is recommended.
Natural Tunnel State Park uses the Virginia State Parks reservation system at reservevaparks.com, with bookings accepted up to 11 months in advance. Campsites can also be reserved up until 2 p.m. on the date of arrival if space remains. Cabins and yurts require a week-long stay between Memorial Day and Labor Day, with shorter minimums outside prime season.
Cancellations release frequently, so checking the reservation system in the days before a trip can turn up openings at otherwise full parks.
What to expect
Terrain around Church Hill is ridge-and-valley Appalachian country. Roads to riverside and ridge-top campgrounds can be narrow with tight turns, and travelers in longer Class A or fifth-wheel rigs should confirm site length and access before booking. At Natural Tunnel State Park, Cove View Campground handles rigs up to 38 feet on pull-through sites, while Lover's Leap Campground has back-in sites that can take rigs up to 50 feet; both loops use a shared dump station and have no sewer hookups.
Expect reliable interstate access via I-81 to the south and U.S. 11W through town. Grocery, fuel, and propane are available in Church Hill, Kingsport, and Rogersville.
Black bears live in the surrounding mountains, so food storage rules apply at state park and forest campgrounds. Summer brings mosquitoes and ticks near the rivers, and evenings can cool noticeably at higher elevations even in mid-summer.

Compact travel trailers and campervans sit at the lower end, while Class A and Class C motorhomes that sleep the whole family run higher. rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Church%20Hill%2C%20TennesseeWhat kind of driver's license do I need to rent an RV in Church Hill?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Tennessee, including Church Hill. The state does not require a Commercial Driver License (CDL) or any special endorsement for recreational vehicles used for personal travel, so your standard Class D license works for Class B campervans, Class C motorhomes, travel trailers, and even larger Class A rigs. You'll need to be 25 or older to book on RVezy, and we'll confirm your ID quickly through the platform before pickup. Visiting from abroad? Bring your home-country license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP) and you're set to roll out toward the Holston River.

Pro tip: review the protection options before booking so you know exactly what's covered before you head toward Warriors' Path State Park.

Booking is low-risk: RVezy sets a consistent cancellation policy across every listing (hosts don't set their own), and there's a money-back grace period right after booking so you can plan with confidence. Depending on how far in advance you cancel, different refund amounts may apply, and you'll see the exact terms during checkout and in your booking confirmation. If your host cancels, you'll receive a refund or travel credit per RVezy's policy. Pro tip: if a forecast looks dicey along the Holston River, message your host first; many are flexible about shifting dates by a day or two so your Church Hill RV trip still happens.

Once you're rolling, your pup will love the area too. Warriors' Path State Park in nearby Kingsport allows leashed pets on most trails and at the campground, and Bays Mountain Park has miles of dog-friendly hiking. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm any pet fee and to flag your dog's size, breed, and crate habits so check-in goes smoothly.
tnstateparks.com/parks/warriors-pathCan the RV be delivered to my campground in Church Hill?
Yes, RV delivery in Church Hill is one of the most popular options on RVezy, and it's a game-changer if it's your first time renting an RV. Many local hosts will drive the rig to Warriors' Path State Park, Rocky Top Campground & RV Park in Blountville, or even your private driveway, then level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before handing over the keys. You skip the highway driving entirely. Use the Delivery filter when searching, and check each host's delivery radius and fee. Pro tip: delivery pairs perfectly with state park sites that have tight back-in spots near the lake.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Church%20Hill%2C%20TennesseeHow do mileage limits work for an RV road trip from Church Hill?
Most Church Hill hosts include a set number of free miles per night (commonly 100 to 150), with extra miles available at a posted per-mile rate, and a few offer RV rental with unlimited mileage for longer journeys. That's plenty of room for the best loops out of town: Great Smoky Mountains National Park is roughly 110 miles southwest, Asheville, NC sits about 95 miles south, Bristol Motor Speedway is just 25 miles east, and the Blue Ridge Parkway entrance near Boone, NC is about 90 miles away. Pro tip: estimate your total round-trip mileage before booking and filter for unlimited-mile listings if you're planning a multi-state loop.

Reserve Warriors' Path through the official Tennessee State Parks site up to a year in advance. tnstateparks.com/parks/warriors-path/campingWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from Church Hill?
Church Hill sits in a humid subtropical climate, so you have a long camping window from April through late October, with a sweet spot in mid-September through mid-November when leaves on the surrounding Appalachian foothills turn brilliant orange and red. Summer highs run in the mid-80s°F with humid afternoons, while April and May bring blooming dogwoods and highs around 70°F. Winters are short but chilly, with January lows near 27°F, so cold-weather RVing is doable in a well-insulated rig with heated tanks. Pro tip: book a fall-foliage week at Warriors' Path six months out (the day reservations open) for the prettiest lakeside sites.
weather.gov/mrx/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay in Church Hill?
You'll be just fine, even if it's your first time renting an RV. Church Hill is small-town Tennessee with wide, calm roads, and every RVezy host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup: how to level the rig, run the generator, dump tanks, hook up at campsites, and operate the awning. You'll have their cell number throughout the trip, plus 24/7 RVezy customer support. Stick to Class B campervans or Class C motorhomes under 28 feet for an easy first drive, and choose a host who offers delivery if you'd rather skip backing into a site. Pro tip: practice a few right turns in a quiet parking lot near Phipps Bend before heading to the highway.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?
You're covered: 24/7 roadside assistance is included with every RVezy protection plan, so a flat tire on Highway 11W or a dead battery at Warriors' Path is one phone call away from being handled. Your host is also your first text message, and most Church Hill owners are local, often within 30 minutes of Kingsport, Bristol, or Johnson City, so they can walk you through quick fixes by phone or send help fast. RVezy's customer support team backs everything up if you need extra hands. Pro tip: snap a photo of the breaker panel and propane shutoff during your walkthrough, that solves about half of all on-the-road questions.

Popular routes include the Blue Ridge Parkway, Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and Natural Tunnel State Park just over the Virginia line. Cross-border travel into Canada may be allowed depending on the host and protection plan, so message the host before booking to confirm. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals. Pro tip: keep your booking confirmation and protection details accessible on your phone in case you cross a weigh station.
nps.gov/blri/index.htmHow much should I budget for fuel on a Church Hill RV trip?
Fuel is usually the biggest variable cost on an RV road trip from Church Hill, so plan ahead. Class B campervans get around 18 to 22 mpg, Class C motorhomes average 10 to 14 mpg, and Class A rigs run 7 to 10 mpg. Tennessee gas prices typically sit a bit below the national average, and you'll find competitive diesel at the Pilot Travel Center in Kingsport and the Love's near Bulls Gap. For a 4-day loop to the Smokies and back (about 300 miles), budget roughly $90 to $180 in fuel depending on your rig. Pro tip: use the GasBuddy app to lock in the best price along I-81 before you leave the driveway.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Church Hill?
For peak season (June through October) and any race weekend at nearby Bristol Motor Speedway, book your campground the moment your dates are firm. Warriors' Path State Park opens reservations up to a year in advance through the official Tennessee State Parks reservation system, and the lakeside loops fill quickly for summer weekends and fall-foliage Saturdays. Private parks like Rocky Top Campground and Shadrack Campground (near Bristol Motor Speedway) sell out months ahead for NASCAR weekends. Off-season midweek? You can often book a few days out. Pro tip: line up your campground first, then book your RV rental in Church Hill, TN around the dates you locked in.
tnstateparks.com/parks/warriors-pathWhat are the local driving conditions like around Church Hill?
Driving is refreshingly easy here compared to a major metro: Church Hill sits along Highway 11W with wide lanes, gentle grades, and a quick hop to I-81 for longer trips. The terrain is rolling Appalachian foothills, so expect a few sustained climbs heading toward the Smokies or Boone, NC, where you'll want to downshift on descents. Winter ice can pop up December through February on shaded back roads, and summer thunderstorms roll through quickly in July. Avoid narrow mountain shortcuts in a big motorhome, stick to U.S. 23, U.S. 11W, and I-81. Pro tip: the Bays Mountain area has some steep, winding roads, so consider parking the RV at Warriors' Path and day-tripping in your tow vehicle.

Class C and Class A units usually have a generator for off-grid power, and many include a TV with an antenna. Wi-Fi depends on the rig, ask the host directly. Campervan rentals in Church Hill are simpler but still have a bed, cooktop, and fridge. Pro tip: filter by sleep count and check the listing photos for the bathroom setup before booking your family RV trip in Church Hill.

Pickup is usually at the host's home in Church Hill, Kingsport, or Mount Carmel, with delivery available from many owners for an added fee. Mileage policies vary, so check the per-night allowance and overage rate on each listing. Pro tip: bundle delivery, setup, and a generator package if you're heading somewhere without hookups, like a Cherokee National Forest dispersed site, it's worth every dollar.
fs.usda.gov/cherokeeHow does payment and the security deposit work for an RV rental in Church Hill?
Payment is simple and secure: you pay through RVezy with a credit card at the time of booking, and your funds are protected until the trip starts, so there's no cash changing hands at pickup. A refundable security deposit is held on your card before the trip and released after a smooth return, typically within a few days. The deposit amount is shown on each listing before you confirm and is separate from your booking payment. To avoid any deposit hiccups, return the RV with the same fuel and propane level, dump the tanks if required, and snap timestamped photos at pickup and dropoff. Pro tip: do a quick walk-around video with the host on both ends, it protects everyone.
