Campgrounds near Decatur, Tennessee
Decatur sits in Meigs County in East Tennessee, on the west side of Watts Bar Lake, a Tennessee Valley Authority reservoir on the Tennessee River. Watts Bar Dam lies roughly midway between Knoxville and Chattanooga and is one of TVA's mainstream dams on the Tennessee River, with a long, branching shoreline and tens of thousands of surface acres of water. That waterfront, plus easy access to I-75 through nearby Athens, makes the area a practical base for RV travelers exploring the lake, the Cumberland Plateau, and the western foothills of the Great Smokies.
Most campgrounds near Decatur cluster around Watts Bar Lake in and around the community of Ten Mile, a short drive north of town. Options range from a TVA-linked lakeside park at Fooshee Pass Campground to full-service private resorts like Camp Willow Outdoor Resort and Euchee Marina and Campground, plus RV-focused sites at Bitner's RV Park in Spring City and Athens I-75 Campground just off the interstate.
The mix suits both weekend lake trips and longer touring stops. Waterfront sites tend to book earliest, while interstate-adjacent parks stay useful for one-night stays and shoulder-season travel.
Things to do around Decatur
Watts Bar Lake is the main draw, with boating, skiing, fishing, swimming, and paddling all within easy reach. Boat ramps at Fooshee Pass Campground and Euchee Marina and Campground put RV travelers on the water within minutes, and shoreline coves are popular for bass and crappie fishing.
On land, families gravitate to the on-site amenities at the private parks. Camp Willow Outdoor Resort has a saltwater pool and an 18-hole camping-themed mini golf course, and the on-site Camp Willow Kitchen serves pizzas, wings, wraps, and ice cream. Bitner's RV Park runs a small store and deli that stocks live bait and tackle for lake anglers.
Day trips are straightforward: Athens sits about fifteen minutes south for supplies and restaurants, and the Cherokee National Forest, the Hiwassee River, and the northern approach to the Great Smoky Mountains are all within a reasonable drive.

The Decatur area follows a typical East Tennessee pattern. Summers are hot and muggy, winters are short but chilly and wet, and skies stay partly cloudy year round. Peak camping season runs from late spring through early fall, with July and August the busiest months on Watts Bar Lake and the highest demand for waterfront sites.
Seasonality matters when choosing a park. Fooshee Pass Campground operates on a seasonal calendar, running from mid-March through mid-November, so winter trips need to target the year-round options. Camp Willow Outdoor Resort, Bitner's RV Park, Athens I-75 Campground, and Euchee Marina and Campground generally stay open into the shoulder seasons and are the better bets for cold-weather travel.
Spring brings frequent rainfall and the risk of severe thunderstorms, so RV travelers should watch forecasts and pick sites with good drainage. Fall is drier and cooler, with lower bug pressure and typically easier reservations after Labor Day.

We opted for delivery and setup to the campsite which was great! When we arrived everything was set up and ready for us to move in. It was great to escape the heat at the event and have lunch and dinner at the camper. They were awesome to work with! We highly recommend them for a rental option!! We would definitely choose them again!!

So glad I chose to rent an rv for the first time this weekend, as it rained 2 of 3 days and nights. Communication was smooth, even when a strange fluke occurred and I accidently got locked out. Matt immediately drove out to the site with a spare. It seemed to be a malfunction in the mechanism which I'm sure they will be addressing soon. The camper was clean, well equipped and simple to operate. The bed was comfy and I am particular. So , I was , a happy camper.

How to book campgrounds near Decatur
Reservation systems vary by campground. Fooshee Pass Campground is operated by Go Camp Tennessee under a partnership with the Tennessee Valley Authority, and sites are booked through the operator's online reservation system or by phone; online reservations require a two-night minimum stay. Camp Willow Outdoor Resort takes reservations through Campspot, and Bitner's RV Park, Athens I-75 Campground, and Euchee Marina and Campground each handle bookings directly through their own websites or by phone.
For summer weekends and holiday periods, book waterfront sites several weeks in advance, especially at Fooshee Pass and Euchee Marina. Larger rigs should confirm site length, hookup amp service, and pull-through availability before locking in dates. Cancellation and refund rules differ between the TVA-linked park and the private and interstate parks, so read the specific policy at checkout.
What to expect on the ground
Terrain around Decatur is rolling and wooded, with lakeside parks stepping down to Watts Bar's shoreline. Sites at Fooshee Pass Campground are set among mature trees; the campground has 54 sites, all with water and electricity, on 30-amp service only, and some sites may require an extra 30-amp extension. Big rigs are better matched to Camp Willow Outdoor Resort, Bitner's RV Park, or Euchee Marina and Campground, where 50-amp service and pull-throughs are more common.
Amenities lean practical rather than luxury. Expect bathhouses with hot showers, dump stations, boat ramps at the lakeside parks, and playgrounds and swim areas at the family-focused resorts. Cell coverage is generally usable but can be spotty in wooded coves.
Come prepared for humidity, biting insects in warmer months, and afternoon storms in spring and summer. Level blocks and a surge protector are worth packing.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Decatur,%20TennesseeWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Decatur, Tennessee?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Decatur, Tennessee. Tennessee does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special RV endorsement for personal motorhomes or towable trailers used recreationally. RVezy approved drivers are generally 25 or older with a valid license, and ID is verified securely through the platform during booking. Visiting from outside the U.S.? Booking feels low-risk because RVezy (not individual hosts) sets the cancellation policy, and it includes a full money-back grace period right after you book. After that window, your refund depends on how far out from your trip you cancel. Special circumstances, such as a host cancellation, are handled directly by RVezy with refunds or travel credits. The exact details are laid out in the RVezy Help Center. Pro tip: book early to lock in your preferred rig for a Decatur RV trip, since you'll still have flexibility in those first hours after confirmation.

Absolutely. Pet-friendly RV rental Decatur options are easy to find by toggling the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy, and many Meigs County hosts welcome well-behaved dogs, sometimes with a small cleaning add-on. Once you arrive, your pup will have plenty to explore: the shoreline areas along Watts Bar Lake, the grassy spots at Hornsby Hollow Campground, and leash-friendly paths in nearby Cherokee National Forest are all great. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm pet fees and any size limits. Bring a long lead so your dog can lounge outside the RV while you grill lakeside.

amp;PetFriendly=trueCan the RV be delivered to my campsite in Decatur?
Yes, RV delivery in Decatur is one of the easiest ways to start your trip, especially if it's your first time renting an RV. Many local hosts will tow a travel trailer or fifth wheel directly to Hornsby Hollow Campground, Kibbe Point, or a private lakefront spot on Watts Bar, then level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system. You skip the towing, the backing-in stress, and the setup learning curve entirely. Use the Delivery filter on RVezy to see who offers it. Pro tip: ask about a stocked and ready option so the bed is made and the fridge is cold when you arrive.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Decatur,%20TennesseeHow far can I travel from Decatur, TN on an RV road trip?
You can go surprisingly far on an RV road trip from Decatur, and the region is packed with bucket-list options. Great Smoky Mountains National Park is about 2 hours east, Nashville is roughly 2.5 hours west, Asheville, NC sits about 3 hours northeast, Chattanooga is just 50 minutes south, and Mammoth Cave National Park in Kentucky is around 3.5 hours northwest. Pro tip: filter for unlimited mileage if you're planning a multi-park loop. East Tennessee's interstates make these drives smooth and scenic.
nps.gov/grsm/index.htmWhere are the best campgrounds near Decatur, TN?
You're in one of the best lake-camping pockets in East Tennessee. Top picks for RV camping Decatur include Hornsby Hollow Campground on Watts Bar Lake (US Army Corps of Engineers, electric and water hookups, swim beach), Kibbe Point Campground (quieter, peninsula sites with lake views), and Yarberry Campground just across the lake near Lenoir City. A bit further out, Harrison Bay State Park near Chattanooga offers paved pads and a marina. Pro tip: Corps of Engineers sites are some of the best campgrounds near Decatur, TN, and they tend to be well-kept and budget-friendly, often $26 to $40 a night.
recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/231956When is the best time to take an RV trip to Decatur, TN?
Decatur is genuinely a three-season RV destination thanks to East Tennessee's mild climate. April and May bring 65 to 80 degree days and lush green hills, summer (June to August) runs warm and humid with highs in the upper 80s and great lake swimming, and September through early November is arguably the sweet spot with cool nights, 70-degree afternoons, and stunning fall color across the Cumberland Plateau. Winters are mild (40s to low 50s by day), so off-season rentals are very doable. Pro tip: book a motorhome rental Decatur weekend in mid-October for peak foliage on the drive between Watts Bar Lake and the Cherokee National Forest.
weather.gov/mrx/I've never driven an RV before, will I be okay starting in Decatur?
You'll be in great shape. Decatur's rural roads, gentle terrain, and low traffic make it one of the friendlier places in Tennessee for a first time renting an RV. Every host on RVezy provides a hands-on walkthrough at pickup, covering the generator, slide-outs, water systems, leveling, and dump procedures, and you can message them throughout your trip with questions. If you're still nervous about driving, choose a smaller Class C or book a campervan rental Decatur option, or simply pick a host who delivers. Pro tip: practice a few right turns in the Highway 58 area before heading up toward the Smokies. The confidence kicks in fast.
tn.gov/tdot.htmlWhat happens if my RV breaks down during my Decatur trip?
You're covered. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so if you get a flat on Highway 58, a dead battery at Hornsby Hollow, or need a tow heading into the Cherokee National Forest, help is one phone call away. RVezy customer support is reachable before, during, and after your trip, and your host is typically just a text message away for quick fixes. Pro tip: snap a photo of the RV's tire pressure and dashboard at pickup. It's a small habit that helps the roadside team diagnose any issue faster on rural East Tennessee roads.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my RV rental from Decatur into other states or Canada?
Yes, interstate travel is welcome on most RVezy rentals, and Decatur's location makes multi-state loops easy. North Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, and Kentucky are all within a half-day drive, and many guests build trips into the Blue Ridge Parkway or down to the Gulf Coast. Cross-border travel into Canada may be allowed depending on the host and protection plan, so message the host directly from the listing before booking to confirm. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because coverage does not extend there. Pro tip: a classic route from Decatur runs east to the Smokies, then south through Asheville and back via Chattanooga.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage and gas budget should I plan for?
Realistic fuel planning makes your trip stress-free. Class C motorhomes around Decatur typically get 8 to 10 miles per gallon (MPG), Class A coaches 6 to 8 MPG, and a truck towing a travel trailer roughly 10 to 12 MPG. East Tennessee gas prices tend to run a bit below the national average, with stations in Athens, Sweetwater, and Dayton being convenient fill-up spots along the I-75 corridor. For a 4-day, 400-mile loop through the Smokies, budget roughly $180 to $260 in fuel for a Class C. Pro tip: top off in Athens before climbing into the mountains, as prices jump noticeably inside Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book a campground near Decatur?
Booking early pays off, especially for waterfront sites on Watts Bar Lake. US Army Corps of Engineers campgrounds like Hornsby Hollow and Kibbe Point reserve through Recreation.gov on a 6-month rolling window, with summer weekends often filling within days of release. Tennessee State Parks (like Harrison Bay) book through the official state parks reservation system and follow a similar pattern. For a family RV trip Decatur weekend in June or July, aim to book 4 to 6 months out. Pro tip: midweek arrivals (Sunday through Wednesday) are dramatically easier to snag and often $10 to $15 cheaper per night.
recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/231956What are the local driving conditions like around Decatur, TN?
Driving around Decatur is genuinely pleasant for RVs. The main routes (Highway 58, Highway 30, and nearby I-75) are well-maintained, low-traffic, and free of the steep urban climbs you'd find further east in the Smokies. Watch for narrow shoulders on some county roads and occasional deer at dusk, especially near the lake. Summer thunderstorms can roll through fast in the afternoons, so check the forecast before long drives. Winter weather is mild, with occasional light freezes but rarely sustained snow. Pro tip: if you're heading into the Smokies, take Highway 411 north rather than the steeper, twistier US-64 to Ocoee. Your tow vehicle's brakes will thank you.
smartway.tn.gov/trafficWhat amenities will I find at campgrounds near Decatur?
Local campgrounds are well-equipped for a smooth RV camping Decatur experience. Hornsby Hollow and Kibbe Point offer 30/50-amp electric, water hookups, dump stations, hot showers, and lake access, though most Corps sites do not have sewer at individual sites (dump on your way out). Private parks in the area typically include full hookups, Wi-Fi, and laundry. Fresh water fills are available at most campground entrances, and propane is easy to find in Athens or Sweetwater. Pro tip: bring a 25-foot drinking-water hose and a basic surge protector. Older lakefront sites occasionally have inconsistent power, and a surge protector helps safeguard your RV's electronics.
recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/231956What's included inside a typical RV rental in Decatur?
Most rigs are road-trip ready out of the gate. A typical motorhome rental Decatur listing comes with a full kitchen (stove, fridge, microwave), a bathroom with shower, sleeping for 4 to 8, a roof air conditioner, furnace, fresh/grey/black water tanks, and seatbelted travel seats. Many include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor speakers, and a generator for off-grid lake nights. Wi-Fi is hit-or-miss in rural Meigs County, so a few hosts offer mobile hotspots as add-ons. Pro tip: review the listing's photos and amenity list carefully and message the host if you need something specific (kids' bunks, a CPAP-friendly outlet, or a backup camera). Hosts are quick to respond.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Decatur,%20TennesseeWhat add-ons and pickup options should I expect when booking?
Hosts in Decatur typically offer a flexible menu of helpful add-ons: linens and towel packages ($25 to $60), camp chairs and outdoor rugs, kitchen kits, generator use, bike racks, and propane refills. Delivery and setup is the most popular add-on locally, with fees usually based on distance (often free within a short radius, then a per-mile rate). Mileage allowances vary, but many listings include 100 to 150 free miles per day, and unlimited mileage options exist too. Pickup is usually at the host's home or a nearby meeting point. Pro tip: bundle delivery plus a stocked kitchen kit. It turns a rental into a true turn-key lake vacation.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Decatur,%20TennesseeHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is straightforward and handled entirely through RVezy, so there's no cash or off-platform transfers with your host. You pay your rental total at the time of booking using a credit or debit card, and the security deposit is placed as a temporary hold (not a charge) on your card shortly before pickup. As long as the RV comes back in the condition it left, the hold is released after your trip. Pro tip: do a quick walkaround video at pickup and dropoff with your host. This 60-second habit prevents most deposit disputes and keeps your Decatur RV trip stress-free.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhere can I park or stay overnight in an RV around Decatur?
You have great options for where to park an RV in Decatur. Designated overnight RV parking is best at established campgrounds like Hornsby Hollow, Kibbe Point, and area lakeside RV parks, all within a short drive of town. Tennessee state parks like Harrison Bay also welcome self-contained rigs. Dispersed camping is available in parts of the Cherokee National Forest (free, no hookups) about 45 minutes east, subject to posted rules. Pro tip: always confirm overnight policies directly with any private lot before relying on it, and stick to lakeside campgrounds when you can. They are well worth the small reservation fee.
