Campgrounds near Decherd, Tennessee
Decherd sits in Franklin County in southern Middle Tennessee, minutes from Winchester and the shoreline of Tims Ford Lake. The area is a practical base for RV travelers exploring the Highland Rim, the foothills of the Cumberland Plateau, and the Jack Daniel's and George Dickel distillery corridor. Interstate 24 runs north of town, providing straightforward access from Nashville and Chattanooga.
The closest camping options range from municipal facilities in Winchester to private RV resorts on and near Tims Ford Lake. Tims Ford State Park offers camping split between a main campground and Fairview, with Fairview located roughly eight miles from the main park entrance on the lake. Fairview - Tims Ford State Park is the lakeside option most often used by RV travelers, while Twin Creeks RV Resort, Clearwater Cove RV Resort, and The Bolo Club and Campground provide private-park alternatives with hookups.
Winchester Parks and Recreation manages in-town facilities that suit travelers wanting quick access to grocery stores, fuel, and services before heading to the lake.
Things to do near Decherd
Tims Ford Lake is the primary draw. The state park provides a boat launch, and the reservoir supports boating, kayaking, and canoeing. Bass, crappie, and bluegill are common catches, and the state park marina offers seasonal boat rentals.
On land, the state park has paved biking paths, hiking trails, and an 18-hole golf course. Bicycles are permitted throughout the park, and campers can travel on foot using the trail system. Off-park, families can visit the Jack Daniel's Distillery in nearby Lynchburg, the George Dickel Distillery in Tullahoma, and the University of the South campus in Sewanee, which sits atop the Cumberland Plateau with public overlooks.

The camping season runs year-round at Tims Ford, but demand and access shift by month. The maximum stay permitted at the state park is up to 14 days anytime from March through November. Longer stays up to 28 days are allowed during the months of December, January, and February. That extended winter stay policy makes Fairview and the main state park campground viable for cold-weather travel, though services at private lake resorts may be reduced in the coldest months.

How to book campgrounds near Decherd
Tims Ford State Park sites, including Fairview - Tims Ford State Park, are reserved through the Tennessee State Parks reservation portal at reserve.tnstateparks.com or by calling Central Reservations at 888-TNPARKS. Camping rates are for up to 6 persons per campsite with exceptions made for immediate family, and only one wheeled camper is allowed per RV site. Lakefront sites at Fairview book out months ahead for summer weekends, so reserve as early as the system allows.
Private parks including Twin Creeks RV Resort, Clearwater Cove RV Resort, and The Bolo Club and Campground take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Winchester Parks and Recreation manages municipal camping and day-use facilities and should be contacted directly for site availability and rules.
What to expect
The terrain around Tims Ford Lake is hilly and wooded. The park is situated along Tims Ford Reservoir, and campers should drive slowly because hills and turns can limit sightlines. Larger rigs are accommodated at Fairview: the Fairview Campground is located approximately eight miles from the park's main entrance and permits larger RVs up to 65 feet, while the Main Campground can only accommodate RVs up to 40 feet, except for two ADA-accessible sites that can hold rigs up to 70 feet long.
All state park sites have 30-amp electric service and water hookups, with sewer available at some Fairview sites. A dump station is located at the campground entrance for self-contained rigs, and two centrally located, heated bathhouses provide hot showers. No alcohol is permitted on site at the state park, which travelers should note before packing.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Decherd, TN
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Decherd, TN?
RV rental in Decherd, TN is genuinely budget-friendly compared to big-city pickup points like Nashville or Chattanooga. Expect roughly $90 to $175 per night for a travel trailer, $150 to $250 for a Class C motorhome, and $200 to $400+ for a Class A. Add fuel, campground fees ($25 to $50/night at Tims Ford State Park), and any add-ons your host offers. To score a cheap RV rental Decherd, book midweek, travel in April or October when Tennessee weather is gorgeous but demand dips, and filter by travel trailers (the lowest nightly rates). Pro tip: many Franklin County hosts bundle generator hours, camp chairs, and kitchen kits at no extra cost, so message them before booking.
tnstateparks.com/parks/tims-fordDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Decherd, Tennessee?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Decherd, Tennessee. The state of Tennessee does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special endorsement for personal-use motorhomes or trailers, regardless of length. You'll just need to be 25 or older with a valid license, and RVezy verifies your ID through the platform when you book, so there's no extra paperwork at pickup. Visiting from outside the US? Bring your home country license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP) and you're set. First time renting an RV? Your host walks you through every system at pickup, so you won't drive off wondering which switch does what.
tn.gov/safety/driver-services/classd.htmlIs my RV rental in Decherd protected if something goes wrong?
Yes, every RVezy booking in Decherd automatically includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can roll out toward Tims Ford Lake with real peace of mind. During checkout you choose your coverage level (not the host), picking the plan that fits your comfort zone and budget. The protection plan covers eligible accidental damage to the RV during your trip, giving you meaningful financial protection so a small mishap doesn't derail your Franklin County getaway. Pro tip: match your protection tier to your route. A quick weekend at Tims Ford is different from a 10-day Smokies loop, and you can compare tiers on the RVezy insurance and protection page before booking.

Booking an RV in Decherd is low-risk because RVezy (not the individual host) sets the cancellation policy for every reservation on the platform. There is a money-back grace period right after you book, plus additional flexibility based on how far out your trip start date is. Because the exact refund depends on timing, the full details live in your booking confirmation and the RVezy Help Center. If a host cancels on you, RVezy refunds your booking or provides travel credit so your trip plans stay on track. Pro tip: book early to lock in your dates and rate, knowing the grace period has your back if life shifts.

Delivery fees typically run $2 to $4 per mile round-trip, and some hosts include free delivery within 15 to 25 miles. Just use the Delivery filter when searching. weather.gov/ohx/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay in Decherd?

Start with a short hop (Tims Ford State Park is 12 miles), get comfortable, then build up to bigger trips. If you'd rather not drive at all, choose a host who offers delivery and setup. Pro tip: a Class C motorhome or 20 to 25 ft travel trailer is the sweet spot for new drivers exploring middle Tennessee.

Pro tip: save the RVezy roadside number in your phone before you leave Decherd, and snap a photo of the RV's VIN and license plate for faster service.

For a 300-mile weekend loop in a Class C, budget roughly $90 to $130 in fuel. Shift to a lower gear, stay in the right lane, and use the runaway truck ramps as a confidence reference, not a worry. Summer afternoon thunderstorms can pop up June through August, so check radar before driving. Pro tip: avoid driving the Monteagle grade in heavy rain or after dark on your first trip, leave Decherd by mid-morning and you'll cruise through in great conditions.

To avoid issues, take time-stamped walkaround photos at pickup and dropoff and return with the fuel and propane levels noted in your agreement. Pro tip: keep all communication inside the RVezy app, it's your written record and makes any post-trip questions about your RV rental Tennessee easy to resolve.
