Fairmount is a small unincorporated community in Hamilton County, Tennessee, on the western edge of the Chattanooga metro area. It sits within a short drive of the Tennessee River, Lookout Mountain, and Raccoon Mountain, which puts RV travelers close to both urban attractions and the ridge-and-valley terrain typical of southeast Tennessee. Options in the area cover the full range from full-hookup resorts to state park campgrounds. Raccoon Mountain Caverns & Campground sits about 15 minutes from downtown Chattanooga in Lookout Valley and combines quiet surroundings with multiple ways to stay and direct access to Raccoon Mountain Caverns. Harrison Bay State Park is a 1,200-acre wooded park on Chickamauga Lake, roughly 30 minutes from Chattanooga off Highway 58, and serves campers, golfers, boaters, and anglers. Closer-in private parks such as Holiday Travel Park of Chattanooga and Hawkins Pointe RV Park offer RV-focused amenities, while Camp Chet provides a smaller, more rustic setup. Together they give travelers flexibility on hookups, site style, and proximity to downtown.

State park sites and private parks use different systems. Reservations for Harrison Bay State Park Campground are made through the Tennessee State Parks reservation system online or by phone, and the campground offers RV sites across multiple loops plus a dedicated tent camping area. Bookings can be made up to one year in advance, same-day reservations are not available online so calling is required, and there is a non-refundable advance reservation fee per campsite. Most Tennessee State Parks campsites require a minimum two-night stay. Private parks such as Raccoon Mountain Caverns & Campground, Holiday Travel Park of Chattanooga, Hawkins Pointe RV Park, and Camp Chet typically reserve through their own websites or third-party platforms, with card-on-file payment closer to arrival.
