Campgrounds near Gordonsville, Tennessee
Gordonsville sits in Smith County in Middle Tennessee, about an hour east of Nashville along Interstate 40. The town is a practical base for RV trips centered on two adjacent reservoirs: Center Hill Lake in the Eastern Highland Rim and Cordell Hull Lake on the Cumberland River, both used heavily for fishing and boating.
Campground options within roughly a half-hour drive cover most rig sizes and budgets. Cumberland Valley RV Ranch and Made In The Shade RV Park handle standard RV hookups close to town, while Camp Luna offers a smaller private-park option. For lakefront camping, Defeated Creek Marina Campground sits along Cordell Hull Lake about seven miles from Carthage, with 155 sites for tents and RVs, all with electric hookups, and puts boaters next to the water.
Edgar Evins State Park anchors the Center Hill Lake side of the region, offering a scenic, hillside setting with wooded slopes and expansive lake views.
Things to do near Gordonsville
The two lakes drive most trip planning. Cordell Hull Lake stretches 72 miles upstream and boasts 381 miles of shoreline, with anglers targeting white bass, rockfish, largemouth bass, catfish, shad and crappie, and boat ramps and a marina providing easy lake access. Defeated Creek Marina Campground is a natural launch point for a day on the water.
Hikers can pick up the 6-mile Bearwaller Gap Trail from a trailhead within the campground, along with the Turkey Creek Nature Trail and Bear Wheels Trail. On the Center Hill side, Edgar Evins State Park is a popular destination for paddling, boating, hiking, and relaxing by the water, with hillside trails and lake overlooks.
Carthage and Gordonsville provide grocery, fuel, and dump-station stops between outings.

Middle Tennessee summers are hot and muggy, winters are very cold and wet, and skies are partly cloudy year round. Spring and fall are the most comfortable stretches for RV travel, with lower humidity and mild overnight lows.
Summer is the busiest booking window at the Corps of Engineers and state park campgrounds. Weekend and holiday reservations at Defeated Creek Marina Campground and Edgar Evins State Park fill weeks in advance. Temperatures tend to be hot from late spring to early fall, with mostly mild temperatures the remainder of the year, giving visitors many months to enjoy the recreational activities the lakes offer.
Rainfall is spread through the year, with a late-winter and spring peak that can push creek levels up and occasional thunderstorms in July and August. Winter camping is possible at private parks like Cumberland Valley RV Ranch and Made In The Shade RV Park, though some Corps sites operate on a seasonal schedule with reduced services in the coldest months.

You skip towing, setup stress, and the learning curve, so all that is left is to load groceries and relax. Use the Delivery filter to see who offers it, and check the listing for the host's per-mile delivery fee. It is the easiest way to enjoy a stress-free Gordonsville RV trip.

recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/234060When is the best time of year for an RV trip from Gordonsville?
The Gordonsville area is a multi-season RV destination thanks to Middle Tennessee's mild climate. Spring (April to early June) brings dogwoods, mid-60s to upper-70s days, and uncrowded campgrounds. Summer (June to August) is warm and humid with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s, ideal for swimming at Center Hill Lake, so reserve early. Fall (mid-September to early November) is a local favorite: crisp 60-to-75-degree days, fewer bugs, and brilliant foliage on the Cumberland Plateau. Winters are cool with highs typically in the 40s and 50s, and many RVezy hosts rent year-round if their rigs have heat and heated tanks. Pro tip: October weekends sell out fastest, so book early.
weather.gov/ohx/I've never driven an RV before, will I be okay in Gordonsville?
You will do great, and Gordonsville is one of the friendlier places in Tennessee to learn. Your RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup, covering driving tips, leveling, slide-outs, water, propane, and waste tanks, so you are never figuring it out alone. The roads around Gordonsville (I-40, US-70N, and SR-141) are wide, well-maintained, and far less stressful than Nashville's downtown corridor. If you are nervous, choose a Class C motorhome or a smaller travel trailer; they handle much like a large truck. Even better, pick a host who offers delivery and setup, and your only job is to drive your own car to camp. Most first-time renters tell us they were comfortable within an hour.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if something goes wrong on the road near Gordonsville?
Take a deep breath, you are covered. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance, so whether you have a flat on I-40 between Gordonsville and Cookeville, a dead battery at Defeated Creek, or a tow-needed situation on a back road in DeKalb County, one call dispatches help anytime. RVezy's customer support team is also reachable before, during, and after your trip for anything else (lockouts, system questions, host communication). Save the roadside number in your phone before you leave, and snap a photo of the RV's VIN and license plate at pickup so reporting any issue is fast. Most trips are smooth, but it is nice to know backup is one tap away.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat are the best road trip destinations from Gordonsville, TN?
Gordonsville sits in a sweet spot for an RV road trip from Gordonsville to almost anywhere in the Southeast. Top picks: Nashville (55 miles west, about 1 hour) for Broadway and the Grand Ole Opry; Great Smoky Mountains National Park (around 190 miles east, roughly 3 hours) for waterfalls and Cades Cove; Mammoth Cave National Park in Kentucky (145 miles north, about 2.5 hours); Chattanooga and Lookout Mountain (about 130 miles south, around 2 hours); and Land Between the Lakes (about 170 miles northwest). You can even loop down to Asheville, NC in roughly 5 hours. Pro tip: I-40 east toward the Smokies is a stunning drive, especially in October when the Cumberland Plateau lights up with color.
nps.gov/grsm/index.htmWhat kind of fuel mileage and gas costs should I budget for in Gordonsville?
Plan smart and fuel will not break your budget. Class C motorhomes around Gordonsville typically get 8 to 12 miles per gallon on regular unleaded, Class A coaches average 6 to 9 MPG (often diesel), campervans (Class B) deliver 16 to 20 MPG, and towable trailers depend on your tow vehicle (usually 10 to 14 MPG combined). Tennessee gas prices often run below the national average, with stations along I-40 in Carthage and Lebanon among the cheapest near Gordonsville. Pro tip: fill up before you leave town because rural stretches between Center Hill Lake and Cookeville can have higher prices, and use apps like GasBuddy to spot deals along your route.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Gordonsville?
For peace of mind, book 3 to 6 months ahead for any summer or fall weekend in the Gordonsville area. US Army Corps of Engineers sites like Defeated Creek and Salt Lick Creek on Cordell Hull Lake go through Recreation.gov and open on a 6-month rolling window; popular waterfront sites can disappear within minutes of release. Tennessee State Parks like Edgar Evins and Cedars of Lebanon book through the official state portal and follow a similar timeline. Weekday stays and shoulder seasons (March to April, late September to October) are far easier to grab last-minute. Pro tip: set a calendar alert for exactly 6 months before your target date, log in 10 minutes early, and have your site preferences ready to go.
recreation.gov/What are local driving conditions like around Gordonsville?
Driving an RV around Gordonsville is genuinely relaxing. I-40 runs right past town with wide lanes and gentle grades, making east-west travel easy. State routes like SR-141 and US-70N are scenic two-lanes with rolling hills, so take curves slowly with a taller rig. Watch for low-clearance railroad bridges in downtown Carthage (about 10 miles north) and stick to truck-friendly routes when possible. Summer afternoon thunderstorms can pop up quickly; pull off if visibility drops. Winter occasionally brings ice on shaded bridges, so check TDOT's SmartWay site before traveling. Avoid downtown Nashville with anything over 28 feet during rush hour and you will have a smooth, stress-free drive throughout Middle Tennessee.

For dumping or filling water mid-trip, you can also use the dump station at Cedar Creek Campground on Old Hickory Lake. Many hosts include linens, cookware, camp chairs, and outdoor mats; some offer Wi-Fi hotspots as an add-on. Travel trailers and fifth wheels mirror these amenities minus the drivable cab. Pro tip: check the listing's amenity list and message the host to confirm specifics like a coffee maker or an outdoor grill before you book.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Gordonsville%2C%20TennesseeHow do payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?

A refundable security deposit is held on your card before the trip (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV class) and released after a smooth return with no damage or extra cleaning. To avoid issues, do a thorough walkaround with the host at pickup, take date-stamped photos of the interior and exterior, follow the host's fueling and dumping instructions, and return the RV on time. Pro tip: keep all gas and dump-station receipts; they are handy if any questions come up during the return inspection.
