Campgrounds near Harrison, Tennessee
Harrison sits on the eastern shore of Chickamauga Lake in southeast Tennessee, roughly 20 to 25 minutes northeast of downtown Chattanooga. The area is dominated by the reservoir created by TVA's Chickamauga Dam, and that waterfront geography defines most of the RV-friendly camping within a short drive of town.
The closest and largest option is Harrison Bay State Park, a 1,200-acre park with 128 RV sites on water and electric hookups, plus 27 primitive tent-only sites. A limited number of pads can accept rigs up to 65 feet. Skull Island Campground and Hawkins Pointe RV Park offer smaller lakeside footprints along Chickamauga Lake, useful when the state park is booked.
For travelers who want to be closer to Chattanooga attractions, Holiday Travel Park of Chattanooga and Chattanooga North / Cleveland KOA Journey provide full-hookup private-park alternatives on the corridors leading into the city.
Things to do around Harrison
Chickamauga Lake is the main draw. Boating, bass and crappie fishing, swimming, and paddling fill most itineraries, and Harrison Bay State Park has one of the most complete marina facilities on any TVA lake, plus a public boat ramp. The state park also operates the Jack Nicklaus-designed Bear Trace golf course and a seasonal open-air swimming pool.
On foot, three park trails cover most ability levels: a 0.5-mile Fitness Loop, a 1.5-mile Lakeshore Loop, and the 4.5-mile Bay Point multi-use loop that runs along the shoreline. Birders regularly spot bald eagles and osprey over the bay.
Downtown Chattanooga is about a 25 to 30 minute drive and adds the Tennessee Aquarium, the Incline Railway on Lookout Mountain, Rock City, Ruby Falls, and the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park for a full family day off-site.

Summer is the peak camping season, with daytime highs typically in the upper 80s and about half of summer days reaching the 90s. Spring and fall are the most comfortable stretches for RV travel. Spring brings warming temperatures, wildflowers, and heavy rainfall, with March typically the single wettest month. Fall cools steadily through October and November and delivers reliable foliage across the surrounding ridges, generally with drier weather than spring.
Winter is mild by northern standards but wet, and it is often the wettest season overall. Overnight lows dip below freezing on many nights, though afternoons usually thaw. Snowfall averages only a few inches per year. Harrison Bay State Park is open year-round, while pool and marina services follow a seasonal schedule.

We opted for delivery and setup to the campsite which was great! When we arrived everything was set up and ready for us to move in. It was great to escape the heat at the event and have lunch and dinner at the camper. They were awesome to work with! We highly recommend them for a rental option!! We would definitely choose them again!!

So glad I chose to rent an rv for the first time this weekend, as it rained 2 of 3 days and nights. Communication was smooth, even when a strange fluke occurred and I accidently got locked out. Matt immediately drove out to the site with a spare. It seemed to be a malfunction in the mechanism which I'm sure they will be addressing soon. The camper was clean, well equipped and simple to operate. The bed was comfy and I am particular. So , I was , a happy camper.

How to book campgrounds near Harrison
Harrison Bay State Park is reserved through the Tennessee State Parks reservation system, online or by phone, up to one year in advance. A non-refundable advance reservation fee applies per campsite, and most sites require a two-night minimum. Same-day reservations are not available online, so travelers arriving without a booking need to call the park office. Any sites not reserved before arrival are released on a first-come, first-served basis.
Private parks in the area, including Skull Island Campground, Hawkins Pointe RV Park, Holiday Travel Park of Chattanooga, and Chattanooga North / Cleveland KOA Journey, each run their own booking systems through their websites or the KOA platform. For summer weekends and any holiday, book eight to twelve weeks out. Weeknights and shoulder-season stays are usually available closer to arrival.
What to expect on-site
At Harrison Bay State Park, expect a wooded lakeside setting with paved pads, water and electric hookups on RV sites, bathhouses with hot showers in each of the four camping areas, and one central dump station rather than site-level sewer. Leashed dogs are permitted throughout the campground. Each site includes a grill and fire ring.
Cell service is generally reliable near Chattanooga, and the state park offers Wi-Fi intended for light use only. Private parks such as Hawkins Pointe RV Park and Holiday Travel Park of Chattanooga typically add full sewer hookups, laundry, and stronger Wi-Fi, at the trade-off of a more developed setting versus the state park's shoreline feel.

Good news: your regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Harrison, TN. Tennessee does not require a Commercial Driver License (CDL) or any special endorsement to operate a personal recreational vehicle, including Class A motorhomes, Class C motorhomes, campervans, and travel trailers commonly listed on RVezy. Approved drivers on RVezy are generally 25 or older with a valid driver's license, and your ID is verified through the platform during booking. Visiting from outside the US? It is not traditional auto insurance, but it provides meaningful financial peace of mind whether you are parked at Harrison Bay State Park or rolling toward the Smoky Mountains. Pro tip: lock in your dates early for fall color season around Chickamauga Lake, then revisit your plans confidently knowing RVezy's cancellation framework has your back.
