Campgrounds near Hartsville, Tennessee
Hartsville sits in Trousdale County, the smallest county in Tennessee, about an hour northeast of Nashville and within a short drive of two major reservoirs on the Cumberland River system: Old Hickory Lake to the south and Cordell Hull Lake to the east. That geography puts a mix of state park, Army Corps of Engineers, and private RV campgrounds within reach of a rental base in town.
The closest full-service state park option is Bledsoe Creek State Park, a 164-acre park along the Bledsoe Creek embayment of Old Hickory Lake near Gallatin. It offers paved and gravel sites with water and electric hookups, a dump station, and two bathhouses. Corps of Engineers camping at Cordell Hull Lake is anchored by Defeated Creek Marina Campground, about seven miles from Carthage and roughly 30 to 40 minutes east of Hartsville.
Private parks in the area include TN40RV Campground, Cumberland Valley RV Ranch, and Shady Acres RV Park, which tend to offer longer-stay and full-hookup formats. Rural roads, rolling terrain, and lake access shape most of the drive-time options.
Things to do near Hartsville
Water recreation drives most trips. Old Hickory Lake and Cordell Hull Lake support boating, kayaking, and fishing, with launch ramps and marina services at Defeated Creek Marina Campground and along the Bledsoe Creek embayment. Cordell Hull Lake stretches 72 miles upstream with 381 miles of shoreline, and anglers target largemouth and white bass, crappie, and catfish.
On land, Bledsoe Creek State Park has paved multi-use trails, hiking loops, and lake overlooks. The six-mile Bearwaller Gap Trail has a trailhead within Defeated Creek Marina Campground and offers longer hikes with lake views.
In town, Hartsville has a historic courthouse square, the restored Hartsville Train Depot that houses the Trousdale County Museum, and a self-guided driving tour of Battle of Hartsville Civil War sites. Trey Park adds a skatepark, community pool, ball fields, and a large playground for families.

Corps of Engineers camping at Defeated Creek Marina Campground on Cordell Hull Lake operates seasonally, typically opening in mid-March and running through late October. Outside that window, RV renters should plan on the state park or private campgrounds instead.
Spring and fall bring the most comfortable temperatures, while summer holidays drive peak demand and the fullest calendars on the lakes. Severe thunderstorms are most common from March through May, and occasional winter snow and ice can affect travel.
