Camping near Jasper, Tennessee
Jasper sits in Marion County at the southern edge of the Cumberland Plateau, roughly 30 minutes west of Chattanooga along I-24. The town works well as a base for RV travelers because it puts the Tennessee River, Nickajack Lake, and the waterfalls and climbing areas of South Cumberland State Park all within a short drive.
Campground options span a wide range. Hales Bar Marina and Resort offers riverfront sites on the former Hales Bar Dam site. Foster Falls, part of South Cumberland State Park, is a rustic tent and small-trailer campground next to a 60-foot waterfall and the Fiery Gizzard Trail. Camp Chet occupies a large private tract on Whitwell Mountain. Closer to Chattanooga, Lookout Mountain / Chattanooga West KOA Holiday and Raccoon Mountain Caverns & Campground provide full-hookup RV sites with resort-style amenities.
The mix lets travelers pick between remote plateau camping and hookup parks near city attractions without long drives between them.
Things to do around Jasper
Outdoor recreation dominates. Foster Falls is a popular swimming hole in summer and a paradise for rock climbers, with a short hike from the campground down to the base of the falls. Rock climbing requires advance online registration; in the Fiery Gizzard, climbing is restricted to the routes in the Foster Falls climbing area, and at Denny Cove it is restricted to the north cliff face.
The Fiery Gizzard Trail, accessed from Foster Falls or Grundy Forest, is one of the most popular backpacking routes in Tennessee. The Tennessee River and Nickajack Lake support fishing, boating, and paddling from Hales Bar Marina.
For family days, Chattanooga is 30 to 40 minutes east: Lookout Mountain, the Tennessee Aquarium, and Raccoon Mountain Caverns, with over 5.5 miles of mapped passageways, are among the most-visited stops.

March - May
70° / 48°F 120 mmWaterfalls run strong; wildflowers bloom; book weekends early.
- summer
June - August
88° / 66°F 105 mmHot and humid; afternoon thunderstorms; peak booking window.
- fall
September - November
72° / 48°F 90 mmDriest, clearest season; plateau foliage peaks late October.
- winter
December - February
48° / 32°F 125 mmWettest months of the year; cool days, occasional light snow.
Spring and fall are the strongest windows for RV travel. April, May, October, and early November bring mild days, cool nights, and lower rainfall than the winter and early-spring peaks. Wildflowers and waterfalls run strongest in spring; fall color on the plateau typically peaks in late October and early November.
Summer is hot and humid, with afternoon thunderstorms common. It is also the busiest booking window, especially for weekends at Foster Falls and the Chattanooga-area KOA. Caving at Buggytop (Lost Cove) Cave is only allowed from June through August to prevent the introduction of white-nose syndrome into the cave's bat population, so summer is the only chance for that experience.
Winters are short but wet, with some of the region's highest monthly rainfall totals falling from December through March. The Foster Falls campground is open year-round, though backcountry trails can be muddy and creeks run high after storms.

We opted for delivery and setup to the campsite which was great! When we arrived everything was set up and ready for us to move in. It was great to escape the heat at the event and have lunch and dinner at the camper. They were awesome to work with! We highly recommend them for a rental option!! We would definitely choose them again!!

So glad I chose to rent an rv for the first time this weekend, as it rained 2 of 3 days and nights. Communication was smooth, even when a strange fluke occurred and I accidently got locked out. Matt immediately drove out to the site with a spare. It seemed to be a malfunction in the mechanism which I'm sure they will be addressing soon. The camper was clean, well equipped and simple to operate. The bed was comfy and I am particular. So , I was , a happy camper.

We enjoyed Drew’s camper very much for our Labor Day weekend trip to Chattanooga! Despite high temps in the 90’s and hitting 100 during the weekend, we even got cold at night from the air conditioning working so well. The camper was clean and looked bigger in person than the pictures. Lastly, even though we never actually got to meet Drew, he was attentive and responsive over messages when we had questions. We would absolutely stay in Drew’s camper again!

We rented this camper and couldn't have asked for a better experience. The camper itself was clean, comfortable, and clearly well maintained. Everything was in great working order, and it was obvious the host takes pride in keeping it ready for guests. The host was fantastic to work with from beginning to end. Communication was quick and friendly, and they were genuinely helpful throughout the entire process, from booking to pickup to return. Any questions we had were answered right away, which made everything smooth and stress free. Highly recommend both this camper and host, and we wouldn't hesitate to book again in the future!

How to book campgrounds near Jasper
Reservation systems vary by operator. All overnight camping in South Cumberland State Park requires advance online reservations, camping is only permitted in designated campgrounds, and check-in is at noon Central with check-out at 10 a.m. Central. Bookings for Foster Falls and the backcountry campgrounds run through the Tennessee State Parks reservation portal, and sites can be secured online or by phone up to one year in advance.
Private parks including Hales Bar Marina and Resort, Lookout Mountain / Chattanooga West KOA Holiday, and Raccoon Mountain Caverns & Campground take direct online reservations through their own websites, with peak weekends often filling weeks ahead.
What to expect on the ground
Terrain around Jasper is a mix of river valley and steep plateau. Roads to Foster Falls and Prentice Cooper are narrow and winding in places, so drivers of larger rigs should map routes in advance and favor the KOA or Raccoon Mountain if towing a big trailer.
Hookup levels vary widely. Foster Falls sites have no water or electric hookups, though a restroom and heated showers are available, and gas generators are not allowed. Private parks nearer Chattanooga offer full hookups, laundry, pools, and Wi-Fi.
Cell service is reliable near I-24 and in Chattanooga but spotty on the plateau. Bring drinking water for backcountry trips, keep firewood local to avoid spreading pests, and expect insects and humidity from late spring through early fall.

On RVezy, travel trailers near Jasper typically start around $90 to $150 per night, Class C motorhomes run about $175 to $275, and larger Class A rigs trend higher during fall color season. Use the price filter and Instant Book filter to lock in a cheap RV rental in Jasper before peak weekends sell out.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Jasper%2C%20TennesseeWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Jasper?
Good news for first timers: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Jasper. Tennessee does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or special endorsement for personal use motorhomes or travel trailers. To book on RVezy you generally need to be 25 or older, and your ID is verified through the platform during checkout, so there is no paperwork to print or notarize. Visiting from outside the US? Bring your home country license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP). Verification is usually quick, often completed the same day.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs RV rental insurance and roadside assistance included for my Jasper trip?
Yes. Every booking on RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can explore Marion County with peace of mind. The protection plan helps cover physical damage to the RV during your trip, which matters when winding through the Tennessee River Gorge or parking at a busy lake campground. You choose your coverage level at checkout (not the host), so you can pick what fits your trip and budget. Tip: review the protection options carefully at booking so you start your Jasper RV trip fully covered.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionWhat if I need to cancel my RV rental in Jasper?
Booking is low risk. RVezy sets the cancellation policy directly (not individual hosts), so you get consistent, fair treatment across every listing. Policies include defined refund windows, and our support team can help when severe Tennessee weather, such as summer thunderstorms or a rare winter ice event, disrupts your plans. If a host cancels on you, RVezy helps with a refund or rebooking credit. Tip: book early to lock in the best Jasper RV inventory for fall foliage on the Cumberland Plateau, and review the cancellation policy on your booking before you confirm.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on an RV rental in Jasper?
Yes. Pet friendly RV rental options in Jasper are easy to find on RVezy, just use the Pet Friendly filter to see hosts who welcome your four legged co pilot. Marion County is great for dogs: leashed pups are welcome at Marion County Park, around Nickajack Lake, and on much of the South Cumberland State Park trail system just up the road. Many local campgrounds also allow leashed pets in common areas. Tip: message the host before booking to confirm pet fees, and pack a tie out, a collapsible water bowl, and tick prevention since ticks are active in Tennessee from spring through fall.
tnstateparks.com/parks/south-cumberlandCan the RV be delivered to my campground in Jasper?
Yes, RV delivery in Jasper is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first time renters who would rather skip driving a big rig. Many hosts will deliver and set up your RV right at your campsite, whether that is Marion County Park on Nickajack Lake, Raccoon Mountain RV Park near Chattanooga, or a private site near the Tennessee River. They will level the RV, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system before handing over the keys. Use the Delivery filter to find these hosts. Tip: confirm the delivery fee and mileage radius upfront, many deliver within 30 miles of Jasper for a flat rate.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Jasper%2C%20TennesseeHow do mileage policies work, and how far can I travel from Jasper?
Mileage is flexible on RVezy. Hosts set their own daily mileage allowance, and many offer unlimited mileage packages or generous daily caps that are perfect for a Tennessee road trip. From Jasper you are well positioned: Chattanooga is about 30 miles east, Nashville roughly 130 miles northwest, Great Smoky Mountains National Park about 170 miles east, Atlanta about 145 miles south, and Huntsville, AL about 80 miles southwest. Each listing shows included miles and the per mile rate for overages, so there are no surprises. Tip: if you are planning a big loop, filter for RV rental with unlimited mileage or message the host about a custom mileage package.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Jasper%2C%20TennesseeWhere are the best campgrounds near Jasper?
You have great options within 30 minutes of Jasper. Marion County Park sits on Nickajack Lake with hookups and easy boat access. Raccoon Mountain RV Park (about 25 minutes east toward Chattanooga) offers mountain views, a pool, and underground cavern tours on site. Foster Falls Campground in South Cumberland State Park is a hiker and climber favorite about 20 minutes north. Shellmound Recreation Area on Nickajack Lake, managed by TVA, is a popular Tennessee River option. Tip: reserve TVA and state park sites 4 to 6 months ahead for fall weekends, that is prime leaf peeping season on the Cumberland Plateau.
tnstateparks.com/parks/south-cumberlandWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from Jasper?
Jasper is enjoyable most of the year, but the sweet spots are April through early June and mid September through early November. Spring brings wildflowers and waterfall season at nearby Foster Falls with highs in the 60s to 70s F, while fall delivers strong color across the Cumberland Plateau with crisp 50s to 70s F days. Summers are warm and humid with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s F, great for lake days at Nickajack but plan to run the AC. Winters are mild compared to the north (40s to 50s F highs), and many hosts rent year round, so a quiet winter RV camping trip in Jasper is very doable. Tip: the second and third weekends of October are peak foliage, so book early.
weather.gov/mrx/I have never rented an RV before, will I be okay driving around Jasper?
You will do great. First time renting an RV is easier than most people expect, especially around Jasper. Every RVezy host provides a full walkthrough at pickup covering slides, generator, water systems, and dash controls before you leave the driveway. Jasper sits along I-24 with wide lanes and gentle terrain around town, so it is a friendly area to find your RV legs. If you are nervous about driving, choose a smaller Class C motorhome or travel trailer, or book a host who offers delivery so the RV is set up before you arrive. Tip: do a short practice loop on quieter local roads before tackling the Monteagle grade on I-24.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if I have a breakdown or issue during my Jasper RV trip?
You are never alone on the road. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan. Whether it is a flat on I-24 near Monteagle, a dead battery at Nickajack Lake, or a lockout at Foster Falls, one phone call gets help dispatched. Your host is also a message away through the RVezy app for quick questions like resetting the generator or troubleshooting the water pump, and RVezy support is available before, during, and after your trip. Tip: save the roadside assistance number in your phone before pickup and snap a photo of the RV's tire size and VIN in case you need a tow or service call.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my RV rental from Jasper across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, an RV road trip from Jasper across state lines is common and easy to arrange. Most hosts welcome interstate travel, you are under an hour from both Georgia and Alabama, and Kentucky and North Carolina are within a half day's drive. Confirm your route with your host through the RVezy app so they know your plan. Travel to Canada may be allowed with host approval and the right insurance, message the host directly to discuss. Note: travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend there. Popular multi state loops include Jasper to Asheville, NC and a Smoky Mountains circuit through Gatlinburg.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat will fuel cost on a motorhome rental in Jasper?
Tennessee has some of the lower fuel prices in the region, which helps your motorhome rental budget in Jasper. Expect roughly 8 to 10 MPG for a Class A, 10 to 14 MPG for a Class C, and 12 to 18 MPG for a tow vehicle pulling a travel trailer. Tennessee gas averages tend to run below the national average, with stations along I-24 in Jasper and Kimball offering competitive prices and big rig friendly pumps. Tip: fuel up at the Pilot or Love's near the I-24 interchange before heading up Monteagle Mountain since prices often climb on the plateau, and use a fuel price app to spot deals along your route to Chattanooga or Nashville.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Jasper?
For peace of mind, book 3 to 6 months ahead for peak season (June through October weekends and all of fall color season). Tennessee State Parks like South Cumberland and TVA managed Shellmound Recreation Area on Nickajack Lake take reservations through their official booking systems, and prime lakeside sites go fast. Marion County Park books directly and tends to fill up for summer holidays. For shoulder season (March, April, November) you can often snag a spot 2 to 4 weeks out. Tip: if you strike out on a Saturday, look for Sunday to Thursday stays, midweek availability is much better and rates are often lower.
tnstateparks.com/What are the local driving conditions like around Jasper?
Driving around Jasper is generally relaxed. You are in a small town at the foot of the Cumberland Plateau where I-24, US-41, and US-72 converge. The main consideration is Monteagle Mountain on I-24 heading northwest toward Nashville, a long steep grade well known among truckers. Take it slow in the right lane, downshift on the descent, and you will be fine. Otherwise expect easy two lane country roads, light traffic, and beautiful river views. Watch for deer at dawn and dusk, and note that summer thunderstorms can pop up quickly. Tip: avoid driving Monteagle in heavy fog (common on winter mornings) and check TDOT SmartWay cameras before heading out for real time conditions.
smartway.tn.gov/trafficWhat amenities will I find at campgrounds near Jasper?
You will find a solid range of amenities at campgrounds around Jasper. Marion County Park offers hookups, a dump station, and lake access. Raccoon Mountain RV Park has full hookups, a swimming pool, laundry, and Wi-Fi. State park sites at South Cumberland and TVA's Shellmound typically offer water and 30/50 amp electric with central dump stations and potable water fill stations. Most local parks have hot showers and flush toilets. Tip: if you are boondocking or staying at a primitive site, you can dump tanks and fill fresh water for a small fee at common service points off I-24. Always call ahead to confirm any overnight parking option.
tva.com/environment/recreationWhat equipment and amenities come with a campervan rental in Jasper?
A campervan rental in Jasper listed on RVezy typically comes road trip ready. Expect a comfortable bed (or two), a kitchenette with fridge, stove, sink, and cookware, plus dishes and basic utensils. Larger Class C and Class A motorhomes add full bathrooms with showers, dinette areas, TVs, and often a generator for off grid power. Many include outdoor chairs, a hose, leveling blocks, and bed linens. Seatbelts are provided for every passenger seat, which matters for family trips. Wi-Fi varies, some hosts include a hotspot, others rely on your phone. Tip: review the listing's amenities section carefully and message the host to confirm specifics like a backup camera, awning, or outdoor kitchen before you book.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Jasper%2C%20TennesseeWhat add-ons and pickup options are available when I rent an RV in Jasper?
There is plenty of flexibility. Hosts in Jasper offer popular add-ons like bedding and linen packages, camp chairs, outdoor grills, kitchen kits, bikes, kayaks (great for Nickajack Lake), generators, and pet packages. Delivery is widely available, with many hosts dropping off within 20 to 30 miles of Jasper for a flat fee, and some offering setup at major local campgrounds. Pickup is usually a 30 to 60 minute walkthrough at the host's location or your delivery site. Mileage policies and per mile overage rates are listed clearly on each RV. Tip: bundle delivery, setup, and a linen package on your first trip, it costs a bit more but makes your Jasper RV trip feel like a turnkey vacation.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Jasper%2C%20TennesseeHow do payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure. You pay through the RVezy platform with a credit or debit card, never directly to the host. Your trip total (nightly rate, fees, protection plan, and any add-ons) is shown upfront before you confirm, so there are no surprises. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment around the start of your trip and released after a smooth return, typically within a few days. To avoid issues, take time stamped photos of the RV inside and out at pickup and dropoff, return it with the same fuel level, and dump the tanks if your host requests. Tip: keep all communication in the RVezy app so everything is documented.
