RV camping near Lakesite, Tennessee
Lakesite sits on the western shore of Chickamauga Lake in Hamilton County, about 20 minutes north of downtown Chattanooga. The city is a practical base for RV travelers who want lake access, boat ramps, and easy interstate connections to the Tennessee River Gorge, Cherokee National Forest, and the Ocoee River whitewater corridor.
Campground options in the immediate area lean toward waterfront state park and TVA-managed sites. Harrison Bay State Park is the largest destination close to Lakesite and sits directly on the Chickamauga Reservoir of the Tennessee River. Skull Island Campground occupies its own island in Chickamauga Lake at Harrison, offering waterfront and non-waterfront sites operated under a TVA partnership.
For RVers who want full hookups and highway access rather than lakefront, the Chattanooga North / Cleveland KOA Journey, Holiday Travel Park of Chattanooga, and Hawkins Pointe RV Park round out the nearby inventory. Together these parks cover most rig sizes and trip styles, from short overnights along I-75 to week-long lake stays.
Things to do around Lakesite
Chickamauga Lake is the main draw. Boating, bass fishing, kayaking, paddleboarding, and swimming are all within reach from Harrison Bay State Park, which has a full-service marina and multiple boat ramps. The Bear Trace at Harrison Bay championship golf course is on-site for guests who want to combine camping with a round.
Day trips are easy. Downtown Chattanooga puts the Tennessee Aquarium, Lookout Mountain, Ruby Falls, the Incline Railway, and Rock City within roughly a half-hour drive. East of Lakesite, the Ocoee River offers some of the most consistent whitewater rafting in the country, and Red Clay State Historic Park adds hiking and Cherokee heritage sites to the itinerary.

The Chattanooga area has a humid subtropical climate with hot, muggy summers and short, cool winters. Precipitation is spread fairly evenly across the year, with winter and early spring typically the wettest stretches and October the driest month. Snow is occasional and light, averaging only a few inches per year.
Peak camping season at Harrison Bay runs April through October, when the camp store is staffed and the marina and pool are in full use. Skull Island typically opens in mid-March and closes in mid-November, so plan around its seasonal window if that island setting is the goal. Summer weekends and fall foliage weekends fill first, and holiday periods sell out earliest.
Winter is quiet. Harrison Bay stays open year-round for RV camping, and the standard 14-night maximum stay extends to 28 nights from December 1 through February 28, which suits snowbirds passing through on I-75.

We opted for delivery and setup to the campsite which was great! When we arrived everything was set up and ready for us to move in. It was great to escape the heat at the event and have lunch and dinner at the camper. They were awesome to work with! We highly recommend them for a rental option!! We would definitely choose them again!!

So glad I chose to rent an rv for the first time this weekend, as it rained 2 of 3 days and nights. Communication was smooth, even when a strange fluke occurred and I accidently got locked out. Matt immediately drove out to the site with a spare. It seemed to be a malfunction in the mechanism which I'm sure they will be addressing soon. The camper was clean, well equipped and simple to operate. The bed was comfy and I am particular. So , I was , a happy camper.

How to book campgrounds near Lakesite
Reservations at Harrison Bay State Park go through the Tennessee State Parks reservation system online or by phone, up to one year in advance, with a non-refundable advance reservation fee per campsite. Camping rates cover up to six people per site, and only one wheeled camper is permitted per RV site.
Skull Island Campground takes reservations online or by phone and requires a two-night minimum stay. The Chattanooga North / Cleveland KOA Journey books through the KOA site or app. Holiday Travel Park of Chattanooga and Hawkins Pointe RV Park handle bookings directly through their operators.
For summer holiday weekends and October foliage stays, reserve two to three months out at a minimum; lakefront loops at Harrison Bay and waterfront sites at Skull Island are the first to go.
What to expect on-site
Harrison Bay is laid out in four loops. Loop A has the most level sites and best waterfront positions, Loop C puts some sites nearly at the water's edge, and Loop D is tent-only and shaded. Loops B and C have tight turns and uneven terrain, and listed site dimensions can run longer than the usable pad, so larger rigs should check specific site numbers before booking.
Skull Island has 68 gravel sites with 50/30/20-amp service, a private sandy beach, two bathhouses with showers, and a camp store carrying groceries, bait, ice, and firewood. Terrain can be uneven, so bring leveling blocks.
The Chattanooga North / Cleveland KOA Journey offers full-hookup pull-throughs, a swimming pool, playground, laundry, propane, and Wi-Fi. Tennessee firewood rules apply across the region: bring heat-treated wood or buy on-site to avoid moving invasive pests.

Yes, every RV rental in Lakesite booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance. During checkout you choose from several protection tiers, each covering most physical damage to the RV so a fender bender on TN-58 or a scraped awning at Harrison Bay State Park doesn't ruin your trip. weather.gov/mrx/I've never driven an RV before, will I be okay around Lakesite?

If city traffic worries you, ask the host to deliver the RV, many do. Choose a Class C motorhome or smaller travel trailer (under 25 feet) for your first time renting an RV, they drive much like a large pickup truck.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if the RV breaks down during my trip?

Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, covering flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, towing, and on-the-spot mechanical help anywhere in Tennessee. Your host is also a direct message away for quick questions about quirks specific to their RV. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because insurance and protection coverage stop at the border. Cross-border trips into Canada may be allowed with host approval, message them before booking. A 4-day loop from Lakesite to the Great Smoky Mountains via Gatlinburg and back through the Cherohala Skyway is one of the South's most scenic motorhome rental Lakesite adventures.

Several truck-friendly stations (Pilot, Love's, TA) sit right off I-75 near Chattanooga. rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lakesite,TennesseeHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and secure. When you book your RV rental Tennessee adventure on RVezy, you pay through the platform with a credit or debit card, no cash exchanged with the host. Your trip total (nightly rate, taxes, fees, protection) is charged through the booking process. The host places a refundable security deposit hold on your card before pickup, separate from the booking payment, typically a few hundred to a few thousand dollars depending on the RV and your protection tier. As long as you return the RV clean, undamaged, and with the agreed fuel and tank levels, the hold is released after your trip ends. Take date-stamped photos of the interior, exterior, and odometer at both pickup and dropoff to keep any deposit review straightforward.
