Camping near Livingston, Tennessee
Livingston sits in Overton County on the western edge of the Cumberland Plateau in Upper Cumberland Tennessee, roughly an hour east of Cookeville and within easy driving distance of Dale Hollow Lake. The area draws RV travelers with a mix of state park campgrounds, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers sites around Dale Hollow, and privately owned parks that cater to bigger rigs.
Standing Stone State Park is the closest state park, set inside Standing Stone State Forest north of Livingston. The Standing Stone campground is currently closed for renovations, with reopening expected in late 2026, so travelers heading there should confirm status before booking. Old Mill Camp sits near Cummins Falls State Park outside Cookeville and is a strong option for waterfall hikers. Dale Hollow Lake State Resort Park, Sulphur Creek Resort, and Spacious Skies Belle Ridge round out the nearby choices.
Most campgrounds within an hour of Livingston accommodate travel trailers and Class A motorhomes, with a mix of full hookups, water and electric, and primitive sites depending on the park.
Things to do near Livingston
Water is the main draw. Dale Hollow Lake straddles the Tennessee and Kentucky line and is known for clear, blue-green water, smallmouth bass fishing, and houseboating. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers manages the lake and offers designated primitive family campsites dispersed along the shoreline for boat-in campers.
Cummins Falls State Park, near Old Mill Camp, features a well-known day hike down to a plunge pool at the base of the falls that requires a permit for the gorge trail. Standing Stone State Park adds swimming, hiking, birding, boating, and fishing on a small lake in a forested Cumberland Plateau setting.
Spacious Skies Belle Ridge, on the plateau near Monterey, offers hundreds of acres of hiking and UTV trails, a spring-fed swimming hole, and a fishing pond on the property itself.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable seasons for RV travel around Livingston. Days warm up quickly from March into May, and this window also lines up with the region's wettest stretch, so campers should watch river forecasts near Dale Hollow and the Obey River during heavy rain events.
Summer is peak season. Weekends at Dale Hollow Lake State Resort Park, Sulphur Creek Resort, and Spacious Skies Belle Ridge book out well ahead, and holiday weekends often carry multi-night minimums at private resorts on the lake. Heat and humidity climb through July and August, and afternoon thunderstorms are common.
Late fall through early spring is quieter and colder. Dale Hollow hosts the second-largest wintering bald eagle population in Tennessee and Kentucky, and migrating eagles begin arriving in late October, with peak numbers from late January into mid-February. Some private resorts scale back cabin and service operations outside the main season, and Old Mill Camp's general store closes from November through late February.

How to book campgrounds near Livingston
Tennessee State Parks, including Standing Stone, take reservations through the state's central system at reserve.tnstateparks.com or by phone. Sites can be booked up to one year in advance and a non-refundable reservation fee applies per campsite. Standing Stone's campground is closed for renovations into late 2026, so route bookings there to alternates.
Dale Hollow Lake State Resort Park is a Kentucky state park and uses the Kentucky state parks reservation system. Reservations must be made at least one day ahead and can be made up to twelve months in advance. Corps of Engineers campgrounds on Dale Hollow book through Recreation.gov.
Sulphur Creek Resort, Old Mill Camp, and Spacious Skies Belle Ridge each book directly through their own websites. Holiday weekends typically require a multi-night minimum, and lakefront sites at private resorts fill weeks ahead in summer.
What to expect
Terrain around Livingston is rolling to hilly, with forested ridges on the Cumberland Plateau and steeper drops toward Dale Hollow Lake. Drivers hauling trailers or larger RVs to Standing Stone State Park are directed to use Hwy 52 to Hwy 136, because the park's south entrance is not accessible to RVs.
Hookups vary. Sulphur Creek Resort offers full-hookup sites along with lakefront sites on water and electric only, plus a dump station. Spacious Skies Belle Ridge is full hookup with 30 and 50-amp service and both back-in and pull-thru sites suited to bigger rigs. Corps of Engineers campgrounds on Dale Hollow generally provide electric and water at the site with a central dump station.
Cell coverage is usable but can be patchy in the hollows near the lake. Bring a water hose, surge protector, and appropriate amp adapters for parks that only offer 50-amp service.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Livingston, TN
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Livingston, TN?
An RV rental in Livingston, TN is one of the most affordable ways to enjoy the Cumberland Plateau and Dale Hollow Lake. On RVezy, travel trailers typically start around $90 to $150 per night, Class C motorhomes generally run $175 to $275, and larger Class A rigs can reach $300 or more. Booking midweek and outside the summer Dale Hollow boating peak (June through early August) is the easiest way to save. Pro tip: search the Livingston area for travel trailers and pair them with a delivery quote to skip towing fees and keep your cheap RV rental Livingston budget on track.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Livingston%2C%20TennesseeWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Livingston, Tennessee?
Great news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Livingston, Tennessee. Tennessee does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for any RV under 26,000 pounds, which covers nearly every motorhome and travel trailer on RVezy. You just need to be 25 or older with a valid license, and ID verification happens right inside the RVezy platform when you book. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) alongside your home-country license. Most first-time renters in Overton County are surprised at how quickly they're cleared to hit Highway 111 toward Dale Hollow Lake.
tn.gov/safety/driver-services/classd.htmlIs the RV and my trip protected if something goes wrong?
Yes, and that peace of mind is built right in. Every RV rental in Livingston, TN booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance. The protection plan covers eligible damage to the vehicle, and you choose the coverage level that fits your trip during checkout (hosts don't set this, RVezy does). It gives renters real financial protection on the road, so whether you're navigating Highway 52 toward Standing Stone or parked lakeside at Obey River Park, you can focus on the trip, not the what-ifs.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Livingston RV rental?
Booking with confidence is the whole point. RVezy (not the host) sets the cancellation policy for every rental, and refund amounts depend on how far out from your trip you cancel. RVezy also has accommodations for major weather events, which matters in Tennessee where spring storms occasionally roll through the Upper Cumberland. The simplest move: review the cancellation details before you confirm, and reach out to RVezy support if a true emergency comes up. If a host cancels on you, RVezy will help with a refund or rebooking credits. Most travelers find the policy more flexible than they expected.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on an RV trip from Livingston?
Absolutely, and Dale Hollow country is made for dogs. Plenty of hosts offer pet-friendly RV rental Livingston options, just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and message the host to confirm any cleaning fee or pet count. Once you're rolling, Standing Stone State Park welcomes leashed dogs on the park's trails, and the Corps of Engineers campgrounds at Obey River Park and Willow Grove also allow leashed pets at campsites. Pro tip: pack a tie-out, a collapsible water bowl, and a towel for swims. Cell coverage thins out at the lake, so download offline maps and a pet first-aid app before you leave town.
tnstateparks.com/parks/standing-stoneCan the RV be delivered to my campsite near Livingston?
Yes, RV delivery Livingston is one of the easiest ways to start your trip stress-free. Many RVezy hosts in Overton County and nearby Cookeville will deliver the motorhome or travel trailer straight to your campsite at Obey River Park, Lillydale, Willow Grove, or a private property near Dale Hollow Lake, then handle full setup including leveling, hookups, and a walkthrough. Filter for Delivery on the search page and check each listing for the host's delivery radius and per-mile fee. This is gold for first-time renters and anyone who'd rather not tow on the winding sections of Highway 52 or State Route 136.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Livingston%2C%20TennesseeHow far can I drive on a Livingston RV trip, and how does mileage work?
You've got room to roam. Hosts on RVezy set their own mileage allowance, typically 100 to 150 free miles per night, with extra miles available at roughly $0.35 to $0.50 each. Some listings offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, which is perfect for a longer Livingston RV trip. From Livingston you can reach Cookeville in about 25 minutes, Nashville in 2 hours, the Great Smoky Mountains in around 3.5 hours, and Mammoth Cave, KY in roughly 2 hours. Pro tip: if you're planning to circle Dale Hollow, hit Cummins Falls, and drop down to Fall Creek Falls, ask the host about a custom mileage bundle before booking.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Livingston%2C%20TennesseeWhere are the best campgrounds near Livingston, TN?
You're surrounded by them. The best campgrounds near Livingston, TN cluster around Dale Hollow Lake and the Cumberland Plateau. Obey River Park (about 15 miles north on Highway 111) is the biggest Corps of Engineers campground on the lake with 123 sites, electric hookups, a dump station, and a huge swimming beach. Lillydale and Willow Grove Campgrounds, also Corps-managed, offer lakefront sites with elevated forest views. Note: Standing Stone State Park's campground is under renovation through late 2026, so book the alternatives early. Pro tip: reserve Corps sites on Recreation.gov up to six months ahead; summer weekends sell out fast.
recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/232747When is the best time of year for RV camping in Livingston?
Spring and fall are the sweet spot for RV camping Livingston. April through early June brings highs in the upper 60s to mid 80s, blooming wildflowers around Standing Stone State Forest, and cooler nights perfect for campfires. September and October are arguably even better: warm days in the 70s, lower humidity, and brilliant fall color on the Cumberland Plateau. July and August get muggy with heat indexes that can climb near 100, but the lake more than makes up for it. Winters dip into the 20s at night, yet the Corps campgrounds at Dale Hollow stay open and the area hosts a notable wintering bald eagle population.
weather.gov/ohx/I've never rented an RV before. How does this work in Livingston?
You're going to love how easy this is. First time renting an RV starts with the host walkthrough: when you pick up (or take delivery), your RVezy host spends 30 to 60 minutes showing you how everything works, from the water pump and propane to the awning and slide-outs. You'll have their phone number for the whole trip, plus 24/7 RVezy roadside assistance through the included protection plan. Around Livingston, the roads are forgiving, traffic is light, and most campgrounds at Dale Hollow have pull-through sites that make parking a breeze. Pro tip: ask the host to text you a video of the dump-station routine; it's the part new renters worry about most.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I break down or get a flat near Dale Hollow Lake?
You're covered, even on the quiet country roads. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, covering flats, tows, battery jumps, lockouts, and fuel delivery. Cell coverage can be spotty along Highway 111 and the Obey River shoreline, so download an offline map before you head out. The Dale Hollow Lake Resource Manager's Office and Livingston-area service stations are great local backups, and your host is also a phone call away. Pro tip: snap a photo of the RV's tire info sticker at pickup so a roadside tech can show up with the right replacement on the first try.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Livingston RV rental on a road trip to other states?
You sure can. An RV road trip from Livingston puts a huge swath of the Southeast within easy reach. Popular routes include Great Smoky Mountains National Park (about 3.5 hours east), Mammoth Cave National Park in Kentucky (about 2 hours northwest), Red River Gorge, KY (around 3.5 hours north), and Nashville plus the Natchez Trace (2 hours west). Cross-border travel into Kentucky is straightforward, just confirm with your host that out-of-state travel is approved on the listing. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals. Pro tip: the Kentucky border is only about 20 miles from Livingston, making a quick state-line photo a fun bonus.
nps.gov/grsm/index.htmWhat should I budget for fuel on a Livingston RV trip?
Easy math up front saves stress later. Class C motorhomes around Livingston average 8 to 10 miles per gallon, travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (typically 10 to 14 mpg loaded), and campervans can hit 18 to 20. Tennessee gas prices fluctuate, so check the EIA or GasBuddy before you leave; Crossville and Cookeville stations are often a few cents cheaper than Nashville. For a typical 250-mile loop around Dale Hollow Lake and back, plan on roughly 25 to 32 gallons of fuel for a Class C and budget accordingly. Pro tip: fuel up in Livingston or Cookeville before heading to the lake, the closer you get to the marinas, the fewer station options you'll have.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Livingston?
Sooner is better, especially for summer. Corps of Engineers campgrounds on Dale Hollow Lake (Obey River, Willow Grove, Lillydale, Dale Hollow Dam Site) open reservations six months ahead on Recreation.gov, and Memorial Day through Labor Day weekends fill up fast. Tennessee State Parks bookings open up to 12 months in advance via tnstateparks.com. For spring and fall midweek trips you can often score a site two to three weeks out. Pro tip: if your dream weekend is sold out, set a Recreation.gov alert for cancellations, sites pop back open in the weeks before a trip, especially at Obey River Park.
recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/232654What are driving conditions like around Livingston, TN?
Driving here is genuinely relaxing compared to a big city. Livingston sits at the intersection of State Route 52 and State Route 111, both well-maintained highways with manageable traffic. The terrain on the Cumberland Plateau is rolling rather than mountainous, but expect some curves and noticeable grades heading down to Dale Hollow Lake. Heads-up: large RVs entering Standing Stone State Park should review the park's vehicle and bridge restrictions in advance and follow signed truck and RV routes. Pro tip: avoid Highway 111 right at dusk when deer activity spikes, and you'll have a smooth, scenic drive.
tn.gov/tdot/driver-how-do-i/find-road-conditions.htmlWhat amenities will I find at campgrounds near Livingston?
Most lakeside campgrounds here are well-equipped without being over-developed. The Corps of Engineers parks (Obey River, Willow Grove, Lillydale, Dale Hollow Dam Site) typically offer electric hookups, drinking water, flush toilets, hot-shower bathhouses, and a centralized dump station, though full sewer hookups at the site are rare. Most have swimming beaches, playgrounds, and boat ramps. For full hookups including sewer, private parks around the lake fill the gap. Every Corps campground has a dump station and potable water fill for registered campers. Pro tip: top off your fresh tank before leaving the campground, water fills along Highway 111 are limited.
recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/232747What's typically included inside a Livingston RV rental?
More than you'd expect. A standard motorhome rental Livingston typically includes sleeping for 4 to 8, a kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, sink and cookware, a wet or dry bathroom with shower and toilet, climate control (AC and furnace), a dinette, and built-in seatbelts for travel. Most Class C and Class A rigs include a TV and many hosts add Wi-Fi hotspots or generators (great for boondocking near Dale Hollow). A campervan rental Livingston is more compact but still includes a bed, kitchenette, and often a pop-top. Pro tip: message the host to confirm linens, towels, and a starter kit of campfire essentials are included; many provide them free.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Livingston%2C%20TennesseeWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
Hosts make it easy to customize. Common RVezy add-ons in the Livingston area include camping chairs and tables, portable generators, bedding and kitchen kits, bike racks, kayaks (great for Standing Stone Lake and Dale Hollow coves), and propane refills, with prices set by each host. Pickup is usually at the host's address in or near Livingston, Cookeville, or Allons, with delivery available for an additional flat fee plus per-mile charge. Mileage and pet rules sit on every listing page. Pro tip: bundle delivery, a generator, and a kayak rental if you're heading to a primitive cove on Dale Hollow, you'll have a true off-grid weekend without packing a single extra bag.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Livingston%2C%20TennesseeHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
It's straightforward and transparent. You pay for your RV rental in Livingston, TN securely through the RVezy platform, never directly to the host in cash, so every dollar is tracked and protected. Most bookings require a refundable security deposit that's pre-authorized on your card around check-in and released after the host confirms the RV came back in good shape. The deposit amount is set by the host and shown before you book. To avoid surprises: do a thorough walkaround at pickup, take time-stamped photos and videos, and return the RV with the fuel and waste tanks as agreed. Most renters get their full deposit back within a few days.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksAny local insider tips for an RV trip around Livingston?
Here's one locals love: time your Dale Hollow visit for late September to catch the National Rolley Hole Marble Tournament at Standing Stone State Park, a long-running tradition that has drawn national media attention, and the start of bald eagle viewing season on the lake. Skip the busy Cummins Falls crowds on summer Saturdays and instead hit Burgess Falls or Window Cliffs early in the morning. The Dale Hollow National Fish Hatchery near Celina is one of the largest federal trout hatcheries in the region and is free to visit. For your family RV trip Livingston, those three stops plus a swim at Obey River beach make an unforgettable weekend.
