Campgrounds near Lone Oak
Lone Oak sits on Walden Ridge in Sequatchie County, Tennessee, about a 30 to 45 minute drive from downtown Chattanooga along U.S. Route 127. It is an unincorporated community in southern Sequatchie County, lying within the Chattanooga metropolitan area near the Hamilton County line, at an elevation of just over 2,000 feet. That plateau setting keeps summer nights a few degrees cooler than the valley and puts RV travelers within easy reach of Chattanooga's river, cave, and lake attractions.
Most campgrounds serving Lone Oak are clustered around Chattanooga, Chickamauga Lake, and Nickajack Lake rather than on the ridge itself. Options range from full-hookup private parks with pools and cabins to a large Tennessee State Park on the reservoir. Chattanooga experiences a humid subtropical climate, marked by hot summers and cold winters, with high annual precipitation spread fairly evenly throughout the year, so most sites stay open year round.
For lakeside stays, Harrison Bay State Park and Hales Bar Marina and Resort put RV renters on the water, while Camp Chet, Raccoon Mountain Caverns & Campground, and Holiday Travel Park of Chattanooga offer more traditional private-park layouts closer to town.
Things to do around Lone Oak
The area's headline attractions sit underground and on the water. Raccoon Mountain Caverns offer guided walking tours through formations such as stalactites, stalagmites, and rare shield and helictite features, plus longer wild-cave expeditions for small groups. Downtown Chattanooga adds the Tennessee Aquarium, Lookout Mountain, Ruby Falls, and Rock City within a short drive.
For water time, Harrison Bay State Park offers lakeside hiking, fishing along an expansive shoreline, a marina for boating, a golf course, and a swim beach. Hales Bar Marina and Resort sits on Lake Nickajack with paved full-hookup sites and fishing right off the docks.
Hiking on Walden Ridge, paddling the Tennessee River Gorge, and Ocoee River whitewater east of Cleveland round out a weeklong trip.

The region has a humid subtropical climate. Chattanooga experiences hot summers and cold winters, with high annual precipitation spread fairly evenly throughout the year though winter is typically the wettest season, and occasional snowfall during the colder months. Spring brings frequent thunderstorms and severe-weather potential, so RV renters should watch forecasts closely from March through May.
Summer is peak season for lake camping. Sites at Harrison Bay and other state park campgrounds fill quickly on weekends, and summer and fall foliage drive demand, so reserving well ahead is recommended. Fall delivers the most stable weather, and October is the month with the lowest precipitation, making it a strong choice for families wanting cooler nights and clear skies.
Winter camping remains available at the main parks. Harrison Bay operates year round for RV camping, with the peak season running April through October when the camp store is fully staffed, and typical Tennessee State Parks stays run up to 14 consecutive nights, extended in winter months.

We opted for delivery and setup to the campsite which was great! When we arrived everything was set up and ready for us to move in. It was great to escape the heat at the event and have lunch and dinner at the camper. They were awesome to work with! We highly recommend them for a rental option!! We would definitely choose them again!!

So glad I chose to rent an rv for the first time this weekend, as it rained 2 of 3 days and nights. Communication was smooth, even when a strange fluke occurred and I accidently got locked out. Matt immediately drove out to the site with a spare. It seemed to be a malfunction in the mechanism which I'm sure they will be addressing soon. The camper was clean, well equipped and simple to operate. The bed was comfy and I am particular. So , I was , a happy camper.

How to book near Lone Oak
State park sites and private campgrounds use different systems, so plan the booking route before choosing dates. Reservations for Harrison Bay State Park can be made through the Tennessee State Parks reservation system online or by phone, and the campground offers RV loops plus a dedicated tent camping area. Tennessee State Parks generally open reservations up to one year in advance with a non-refundable booking fee.
Private parks near Lone Oak typically book directly through their own websites or by phone. Raccoon Mountain Caverns & Campground, Holiday Travel Park of Chattanooga, Hales Bar Marina and Resort, and Camp Chet all take direct reservations, and lakefront or pull-through sites should be booked several weeks out for summer and fall weekends.
What to expect on arrival
Expect a mix of wooded ridge, riverfront, and reservoir settings within a short drive of Lone Oak. Harrison Bay State Park sits along Chickamauga Lake in Southeast Tennessee just north of Chattanooga, offering a wooded lakeside setting with extensive shoreline, some sites with lake views, and boating, fishing, hiking, and golfing on site.
Hookups and site sizes vary widely. Harrison Bay offers RV sites with water and electric hookups plus primitive tent-only sites across multiple loops, each with a bathhouse and hot showers and a centralized dump station. Big rigs should confirm site length at booking, since some loops have tight turns.
Bring or buy firewood on site. Tennessee State Parks asks that all campfires be built with heat-treated wood or downed wood collected inside the park, and untreated outside wood should not be brought in.

weather.gov/mrx/I've never rented an RV before. Is Lone Oak a good place to start?
Lone Oak is a great spot for first time renting an RV. The pace here is unhurried, traffic outside of Chattanooga is light, and most highways through Sequatchie County are wide two-lane roads built for trucks, trailers, and weekend campers. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through driving tips, hookups, slides, the water system, and propane, so you'll never feel dropped in the deep end. You can also message your host anytime during the trip with questions. Pro tip: choose a smaller Class C motorhome or a 20 to 25 foot travel trailer for your first booking, and ask your host to demo backing into a campsite before you leave their driveway.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lone%20Oak,%20TennesseeWhat happens if I break down during my Lone Oak RV trip?
You're covered. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so if you get a flat on Highway 111, a dead battery at Foster Falls Campground, or need a tow off Walden Ridge, one phone call gets help rolling. You can also reach RVezy customer support before, during, and after your trip if you need extra help coordinating with your host. Cell coverage is generally solid along U.S. Route 127 and I-24, though it can get spotty deep in South Cumberland State Park, so download offline maps before you go. Pro tip: save the roadside assistance number to your phone and your co-pilot's phone the moment you pick up the RV.

You can cross state lines into Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina, or Kentucky with your RVezy rental, just confirm out-of-state travel with your host. Travel into Mexico is not permitted. For a 300-mile weekend in a Class C, plan roughly $100 to $140 in gas. If you're flexible, shoulder-season weekends in April, May, and November are easier to grab. U.S. Route 127 north toward Dunlap is wide, scenic, and easy to drive. Watch for fog at higher elevations in early morning, deer at dawn and dusk, and occasional winter ice from December through February. Pro tip: in a Class A or large fifth wheel, take I-24 to Highway 111 to reach the plateau instead of the steeper local routes, the climb is gentler and the lanes are wider.

You'll find dump stations at most state parks and a few truck stops along I-24 near Jasper. Mileage policies and generator allowances are clearly listed on each RVezy listing so there are no surprises. The deposit is released back to your card after the trip as long as the RV is returned in the same condition. Pro tip: take a quick video walkthrough at pickup and dropoff with your host, including the exterior, interior, and odometer, it's the easiest way to keep your full deposit and end your Sequatchie Valley adventure on a high note.
