Camping near Philadelphia, Tennessee
Philadelphia is a small community in Loudon County, East Tennessee, sitting just off Interstate 75 between Knoxville and Chattanooga. The location puts RV travelers within easy reach of the Tennessee River corridor, Watts Bar Lake, Tellico Lake, and the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains, making it a practical base for a multi-stop trip through the region.
Campground options cluster along the I-75 corridor and around the nearby lakes. The Sweetwater / I-75 / Exit 62 KOA Holiday is the closest full-service park, offering pull-through sites with 30 and 50 amp service, a seasonal pool, and a stocked catch-and-release pond. Lotterdale Cove Campground, part of the Tellico Lake Campgrounds group on Tellico Reservoir in Greenback, provides wooded and lakefront sites with a boat ramp, swim beach, and rentable slips. Lazy Acres RV Park and The Crosseyed Cricket round out the local options for RV renters.
Most private RV parks along I-75 stay open year-round, while the Tellico Lake campgrounds operate seasonally from March through November.
Things to do near Philadelphia
Water is the region's biggest draw. Watts Bar Lake and Tellico Lake border the area and support boating, largemouth and smallmouth bass fishing, swimming, and paddling from public ramps and marinas. Lotterdale Cove Campground has its own boat ramp and a designated swim beach on Tellico Lake.
On land, the Lost Sea Adventure cave tour in Sweetwater, Sweetwater Valley Farm, and Mayfield Dairy Farm tours are family-friendly day trips within a short drive. The Cherokee National Forest and the Cherohala Skyway scenic drive sit to the southeast, and Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Pigeon Forge, and Dollywood are all reachable in roughly 90 minutes.
Fort Loudoun State Historic Area and the Museum of Appalachia add historical stops for rainy days.

The Philadelphia area follows a humid subtropical pattern, with a long camping shoulder season on either side of a hot, humid summer. Spring, from March through May, brings wildflowers, full waterfalls, and generally reliable hiking weather, but also thunderstorms that can turn severe. March is the wettest month of the year in East Tennessee, so RV renters should plan for muddy pads and check awning tie-downs.
Summer is peak season for lake activity. Afternoon highs commonly reach the upper 80s with high humidity, and pools, jumping pads, and beach areas at parks like Lotterdale Cove and the Sweetwater KOA Holiday are fully operational. Weekends fill early, and holiday weekends fill months in advance.
Fall is the busiest stretch for scenic drives, with foliage typically peaking in the surrounding Cumberland and Smoky ranges from mid-October into early November. Winter is quiet at the I-75 parks, though the Tellico Lake campgrounds close for the season, and overnight lows can dip below freezing, so heated hoses and tank insulation are worth packing.

We had an amazing time renting this RV for our Great Smoky Mountains National Park trip! David and Teresa were incredibly friendly and welcoming from the very beginning. It was such a pleasure meeting and getting to know them. They took the time to give me a thorough walkthrough of the RV and clearly explained all of the systems, which made us feel comfortable and confident throughout our trip. Additionally, they created a manual that gives step-by-step illustrated instructions which was super helpful. They also made themselves readily available via call/text for any questions throughout our trip. The RV itself was in excellent condition, exceptionally clean, and had everything we needed and more. The layout was perfect for our group of five adults, providing plenty of space to relax, cook, play board games, watch movies, and sleep comfortably. This was such a fun adventure and a fantastic way to explore the area. We couldn't have asked for a better experience and would absolutely rent from David and Teresa again. Highly recommend!

This was our second time renting from David and Teresa! We will definitely be back again in the future.

How to book a site near Philadelphia
Private parks in the area take direct reservations through their own websites or by phone. The Sweetwater / I-75 / Exit 62 KOA Holiday books through the KOA reservation system and fills quickly on summer and fall weekends. Lotterdale Cove Campground accepts reservations online through the Tellico Lake Campgrounds booking page or by calling the campground office directly, and Lazy Acres RV Park is booked directly with the park.
Tennessee State Parks, useful for a longer regional loop, use a single statewide portal at reserve.tnstateparks.com, which accepts reservations up to twelve months ahead. A non-refundable five-dollar advance reservation fee applies per site.
For peak foliage weekends and summer holidays, book several months out where possible. The Crosseyed Cricket has historically operated on a first-come basis with limited short-term availability, so call ahead to confirm current policy.
What to expect on the ground
Sites in the Philadelphia area are generally level and gravel or paved, with the larger private parks accommodating big rigs. The Sweetwater / I-75 / Exit 62 KOA Holiday advertises big-rig friendly pull-throughs with 30 and 50 amp service and pull-throughs up to 120 feet, while Lotterdale Cove offers electric and water hookups with a central dump station on a mix of wooded and lakefront sites.
Cell coverage along the I-75 corridor is reliable but drops off in coves along Tellico and Watts Bar. GPS routing to smaller campgrounds can be inaccurate, and the Sweetwater KOA specifically advises following posted directions rather than GPS on the final approach.
Mosquitoes and ticks are active from late spring through early fall, and black bears occasionally range down from the Smokies, so standard food-storage habits apply.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Philadelphia,TennesseeWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Philadelphia, TN?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Philadelphia, TN. Tennessee does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special endorsement for personal RVs, including the largest Class A motorhomes you'll find on RVezy. You just need to be at least 25 years old and have a valid license, which you'll confirm securely through the RVezy platform during booking. Visiting from outside the US? Bring your home country license along with an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your local auto association. Yes, every RV rental in Philadelphia, TN booked through RVezy comes with a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance built into the booking. The protection plan covers most accidental damage to the RV during your trip, so a chipped windshield on I-75 or a scraped bumper at a tight campground site won't blow up your vacation budget. During checkout, you choose your coverage level, so you can pick the peace of mind that fits your trip. While this isn't traditional auto insurance, it's designed for peer-to-peer RV rentals and gives you real financial protection. You can book your Philadelphia RV trip with confidence because RVezy, not the individual host, sets the cancellation policy. It includes a grace period after booking where you can get a full refund. After that window, refunds depend on how far out from your trip start date you cancel and whether there are extenuating circumstances like a natural disaster or severe weather event (East Tennessee can occasionally see icy roads or remnants of Gulf storms). Plans change, and RVezy's customer support team is available to help you sort out options if life gets in the way. Pro tip: book early to lock in the best RVs around Watts Bar Lake and Knoxville, you still have flexibility if your dates shift.

Delivery fees are typically based on mileage from the host's location, and you'll see them clearly during booking. Just filter by Delivery on RVezy to see hosts offering this service. Pro tip: book delivery to a state park or Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) campground on Watts Bar Lake and arrive to a fully set up basecamp.

You can message your host before booking with any questions, and 24/7 roadside assistance is included in case you hit a snag on the road. Many Philadelphia, TN hosts specialize in welcoming first-timers and will even text you helpful reminders mid-trip. Pro tip: choose a smaller travel trailer or Class C motorhome for your first trip, and start with a 2-night stay at Sweetwater Valley KOA to build confidence before tackling the Smokies.

Every RV rental in Philadelphia, TN booked through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection package, so help is a phone call away whether you've got a flat tire on I-75, a dead battery at a Watts Bar Lake boat ramp, or you've locked the keys inside at Cades Cove. Your host is also reachable by message for quick questions about how something works in their specific rig. Pro tip: save the RVezy support number and your host's contact in your phone before you leave the driveway, cell service can get spotty in the Cherokee National Forest.

Yes, interstate travel is welcome on most RVezy bookings, which makes Philadelphia a fantastic launch point for a Southeast road trip. Cross-border travel into Canada may be allowed depending on the host and their insurance, so message the host directly from the listing before booking to confirm. One important note: travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals, as the insurance coverage doesn't extend across that border. Pro tip: a 7 to 10 day loop from Philadelphia through the Smokies, Asheville, and Blue Ridge Parkway is a bucket-list East Coast motorhome rental Philadelphia adventure.

Fuel is usually the biggest variable cost, but East Tennessee is one of the cheaper regions in the country to fill up. Gas prices in the Philadelphia and Loudon County area typically run a bit below the national average. For a 300-mile weekend loop to Gatlinburg and back in a Class C, budget roughly $90 to $130 in fuel.
